Future Opening Possibility Discussion!

Ok so I LOVE 'Share the Music' as an opening and I hope that it will be around for at least another 10+ episodes taking its run close to 40 episodes but I'm super curious as to whether they will do to ‘Impale Down’ what they did with ‘Enies Lobby’ and have a special opening for that one Arc!

I really hope that we do get an Impale Down themed opening showing off all the characters and events as it is a major point in the series like Enies Lobby but I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. When do the openings usually change anyway?

I also wonder whether the upcoming movie TV specials will have their own opening. Maybe they will do something like what Naruto gets and have the current song to different animation for the movie.

Most continuous long-running anime like One Piece change their openings roughly every thirty-some episodes, I believe. One Piece is a bit less consistent in that regard though. Brand New World was only around for 14 (though I bet the time slot change had something to do with that), while Believe was around for nearly 80 (though that was definitely due to them being lazy).

Showing stuff from the second half of Impel Down and Marineford sounds good to me. I don't care if it's loaded with spoilers, since I've already read the manga. Wouldn't mind seeing some new color schemes. I want to follow through on my promise to laugh heartily if Rouge does turn out to be a redhead. If the team can hold on to what Share The World did right and avoid what past openings did poorly, they should come up with something great.

Usually an opening lasts for 26 episodes, or 1 season which is about 6 months. During that time, There is also 2 endings with each one lasting for 12 episodes.

So yeah, Toei is horrible when it comes to openings and endings. Studio Pierrot which is producing Naruto and Bleach is doing an amazing job. They even keep a special supervisor Suzuki (Who did episode 82, 85, 123) to do them. And Norio Matsumoto worked on almost 90% of the openings.

Anyway, Toei have a history with openings…Slam Dunk and Hokuto no ken had only 2 openings as far as I remember even though they were 100+ episodes series.

BTW, The Animation of the opening should always be high, like Share the world. Or actually it should be even better. And Toei have done poorly in the past openings.

And it's not about the money, One Piece is doing 10x better than Naruto. It's just that Toei are cheap bastards.

Toei, as a usual rule, only changes once every 50 episodes.

Course OP has gone all crazy. It was following that GENERALLY until Brand New World, which they then changed for that flashback arc then changed for Crazy Rainbow.

The length of the last one though, We Are Remix was around 25 if I remember, and it's been about that long for Share the World. So maybe it'll change soon…
And since the Impel Down arc starts next week it'll change, we'll see...

You're guys observances on the how and why OP and ED changes are a little off. Toei has NEVER adhered to the traditional changing of the OP and ED every 26 rule until recently. For stuff like Dragonball they only changed the OP and ED (usually the visuals) only when it suited the arc. For Sailor Moon while the song didn't change for four seasons they always changed the animation during the halfway point for each season. For the S and SuperS seasons they had an evolving opening (ala Naruto). What an "Evolving OP" is is you purposely gradually change the animation for the opening depending on the changes during the story arc (like a power up or costume change).

For One Piece for the ED songs after Memories they usually changed them around every 13 episodes until "Adventure World".

For the OP the basically had no tradition point for the first two. We Are! tended to embody the East Blue saga while Believe covered Loguetown through the majority of Alabasta (this is the longest used OP in the series). Toei then goofed and premiered OP 3 during episode 118 which featured Robin with the crew even though she wouldn't join until 130. So Japan spoiled anime watchers 12 episodes before the surprise, nice going
Toei. Then from that point on the OP would rotate every 52 or so episodes (some stay longer some stay shorter) until Brand New World which had a shorter lifespan due that an ED song due to the time slot change.

Ever since the time slot change it appears Toei more or less changes the OP song every 26 like most other companies do. Usually around Spring and Fall the openings change so I wouldn't be surprised if they retire "Share the World" before the end of the year.

Really, Bump of Chicken should do an Opening. They did that ending for movie 4 I think it was…

But that doesn't fit the theme of the next arc, their style.
Share the World started on 395. Next episode is 422. So it's had 27 episodes so far, so if they're gonna change for this arc it'll be this week or so I would think.

They usually announce new openings a couple of weeks beforehand in Shonen Jump.

I hope Toei doesn't go with the usual adventure type opening. This time it should be a little bit emotional (Not Naruto level) and more action oriented. Cause Impel Down and the arc after doesn't have that lighthearted adventure feel to it.

I'm expecting an opening when we reach 1\4 into impel down. Ryou Onishi, Naotoshi Shida who have previously worked on Share the world are abscent from One Piece since episode 405. And hopefully they won't just do some random scenes this time around, if there is any opening any time soon. Unless they are working on Movie 10, Which they definitely did, except they are not finished yet. Plus not to forgot the upcoming movie specials which will definitely be very nicely animated to promote the movie.

Hm, the last Impel Down episode before the Movie 10 specials should physically introduce Jimbei, so I guess it's possible, as he's really the last thing in the current opening that needs to be shown.

so, if Jimbei makes his first official appearance in the of the episode right before the movie 10 episodes, then a new opening after them makes sense. If not, then maybe not too long after them. like three episodes later is minotauros's appearance, which is also a good point for a new episode. and soon after that is magellan vs luffy. so any of those

i think we'll be seeing share the world till the episode 325, last episode before specials. then some special opening, something like "strawhat we are" for those 4 episodes and then the new opening for the rest of the ID.
with that, we get a life-span of 30 episodes for share the world, which sounds about right.

If they were going to switch openings anytime soon we would have know about it by now. And since the opening has scenes of Impel Down in it we're pretty much guaranteed to have the same opening until at least next year. Personally, I think Toei's just going to keep Share the World until April, thus giving it a full year's run.

But a big thing to keep in mind, I think, is the Dragonball Kai - One Piece cross marketing. If One Piece ever changes openings you can bet Kai will too.

This is a pretty good observation. I, personally, have no qualms about them keeping Share the World for quite a bit since its up there with We Are, Kokoro no Chizu, and Jungle P.

Ironically, usually only manga readers overreact to "spoilers" in an opening.

Yeah, I recall some people talking about how some stuff in the new opening for Fullmetal Alchemist was only spoiled for them because some manga-readers had the ''decency'' to complain about how they were spoilers. It's pretty funny, really.

lol yeah. Usually spoilers in openings aren't incredibly apparent w/o someone's input. It'd just be like "Ooo, new characters", "oh that guy must be a villian". At worst it shows a fight between characters that doesn't necesarrily happen in the anime/manga, so there's a feeling for anime-only folks of "wonder if/when that happens" (some happen, like Pacifista vs SHs in Share the World, others don't and are for the effect of showing characters in opposition) or spoils either a character's appearance (Jimbei in Share the World) or allegiance/position/situation (bad only 5 min spoiler, Irie Shoichi in KHR's OP "88" was shown rather clearly to be allied w/ the villian group, though this was stated w/in 5 min of the first episode w/ said op). Only really bad spoilers in my experience for anime-only ppl are in episode titles that are obvious (krillin's death/khr's real six funeral wreaths for examples).

I don't mind future characters in opening. I just hate the ones that use clips from episodes because it's lazy.

well i for one just started and cuaght up in the anime for fma, have not read the manga.

and i didn't see any spoilers at all in any openings. So if there are any, its only if you know what they are before hand to be bale to recognize them.

so i'm sure can be said about most other anime as well. you know besides some dumb spoilering like having robin be on the ship and with the crew and all. i mean wtf anime, way to ruin that one.

I think for the future characters thing they will use that opening till their 'intros', IMO.
