Trivia: sex in Ireland is legal at 14…as long as you follow through. Imagine some poor 14 year old, who's just disappointed himself and his partner, but has also technically broken the law.
To us UK inhabitants: why aren't we asleep?

I live in the Netherlands, which is known to the outside as the drug capital of the world.
That's Columbia silly .
I thought that was Amsterdam? Or is that the sex capital… shrugs
Edit: WOW looked it up and Amsterdam is in fact the capital of the fucking Netherlands. Wow. This is a new low for me.
@Kairouseki:
That's Columbia silly .
No, that's just the coke factory of the world.
btw, gj@genius poster above.
I made my edit before I saw your post, my head has been in shame for a good couple of minutes now. I shall preserve the original post for all eyes to see, like a beheaded man who's head is hanging on the gates at the enterance to a city… for all to know his shame.
…Well damn, Wiggy. Just...that's a geography fail right there.
pat
Geography was never my strong point… or history as mentioned earlier... basically I'm the equivalent of a monkey with a fart for a brain.
Swiftly moving on, I am simply awake because I have a messed up sleeping pattern.
OH! Also sorry for all the questions, but do Americans really call them "freedom fries" rather than "french fries"?
I don't believe I have EVER said freedom fries before.
@Kairouseki:
And yeah I've heard about portion sizes in Europe, like how your guys' large sodas are the size of our smalls or sometimes even kids' sizes .
THAT'S WHERE THEY WENT???
I ordered a medium once - when I hardly ever order a drink - and was shocked at how HUGE the damn cup was. It apparently really had been that long since I'd ordered a drink from a fast food place for a medium to triple in size like that.
I always order a medium and a lot of the time have to do a double take since it's so huge. Mostly at movie theatres. When I went to Disney World and got lunch my brother got a soda and it looked like a large to me so I ordered a large and got one 3 times the size of my brother's. Took me a little over an hour to drink the sucker.
Theatre drinks have always been gigantic. Though, yes, even they have increased in size …
What happened to the lesson from Super Size Me?
Though I like that they tell you how many calories are in those burgers and burritos and whatnot on fast food menus now.
Are they doing something like that in other countries too or have they always done that?
Ah, someone asked about legal driving/drinking age etc?
In Cyprus you can get your student's driving license at 17 but you can only drive a motorcycle with that or a car (as long as you have someone next to you with 5 years of driving experience). 18 is the age where you can get your normal license and drive a car on your own.
Legal drinking age is at 17 and so is for entering in most of clubs (though there are some that only let 21 year olds get in) at least in Limassol.
Buying cigarettes is legal at 18 but I could buy cigarettes for my dad without anyone asking at a muuuuuuuch younger age :wassat: Yeah, I guess Cypriots don't give a shit about that rule Same goes for buying alcohol XD But lately I think they are trying to enforce those rules. Lets see if they'll manage to do it! :'D
Edit: Ah! And legal smex age is at 17 for both heterosexuals and homosexuals.
No Al. They say nothing about calories on the menus and I wish they did :/ Then again I usually cook instead of getting Fast Food.
In my state you can get a farmer's license at 14, get a driving permit at 16, a provisional license at 17, and a real license at 18, but you need to change it again at 21 because people are too lazy to just check your birthday. :getlost: Alternately, you can wait until you're 18 get a permit for 3 months (I think) then take the driving test. My state is weird.
Ages and stuff change for each state though. Except the drinking age and the voting age. Those stay the same.
I've always wondered, do they really call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese a Royal with Cheese in France?
I live in Miami Dade Florida. Most of the white people moved, and almost all we got here is people buying for offices, real estate, or Haitian residents that stay(majority). It's not really all that bad a place to live in. There's barely much crime. Just suicidal or people that commit suicide because Miami is too frustrating.
Compared with other areas, I feel a bit envious. Some neighborhoods look pretty high classed, and some look really well cultured and together(Especially the Hispanic and Haitian ones). My nieghbourhood is just a plian ole area with houses and people waiting to move or die.
I was always to quiet one at school observing the different groups. Even though it seemed like the mix of races were not as bad, there was some form of discrimination among particular groups though that seemed to have died down. Ever since the incidents about Haitians coming to America on boats were made public on the news, the kids at school would call any stereotypical Haitian a "boat". It was merely teasing, but it did get serious at some times.
In high school, the atmosphere was different. Terms that are supposed to be offensive were just taken as a title of a group or person, without much offensive action. I'll talk about high later. It's alot.
canada here
wow you guys are all lucky getting to choose from so many languages. All we have is French. (that's quebec french, not france french) and we don't have a choice, we HAVE to take it. yet, the french in quebec don't have to learn english. I think us english speakers are evil or something, and they want nothing to do with us. >_>
oh, and across canada, smoking and gambling age is 18 If you wanna drive, it's 16, but each province is different with it's licence program. and drinking age is different from province to province. It kinda sucks, when your allowed to drink at 18 in Saskatchewan, but you go to Alberta or Manitoba, and all of a sudden you can't…OR go to the states where their drinking age is 21.
oh ya, and they were just talking on the news yesterday, i didn't know this, you can't BUY cigs till your 18, but you can legally smoke them. they were talking on the news about how they need to change this. geez that's dumb.
I don't quite remember the details about this one since it was stupid bullshit that happened in high school, but I believe there is or used to be some kind of law for people having sex below 18. Thinking back now, it was probably a boatful of lies from a friend who was always DESPERATELY IN LOVE with all of her boyfriends though.
I think it differs in other states, but in Washington, you can get a driver's license at 16, but for the next 6 months, you can't drive with anyone besides someone that's had 5 years of experience.
Smoking and gambling's at 18 in all of the US, and drinking's at 21 too.

If you're under 18 then you need parental consent in order to have sex or something equally silly like that.
Is that what it was? She made it sound something like … "if you're eighteen, and they're not, they have to be no younger than 16." Or something.
Maybe she just twisted it because she's always been super in love with her boyfriends.
Let's see, it's been a while since I've had to think about this…
I believe that if both parties are under 18 than they both need parental consent. If one party is 18 or older then the other party needs to be like 16 or older. Or something like that.
It's weird either way.
Dumb kids have sex before 18 all the time.
Though 18 and 19 are still kind of teenagers, before 18 is what teen pregnancies are usually seen as - especially if unmarried.
Never heard of a preggo teen being arrested for not asking mom and dad if she can go play lubricating the tent with her boyfriend.
That's the thing. There's not much sign of enforcement since a law like that is hard to control, especially if there are teens raging with hormones. The law is probably just there to show the consequences of doing it, since at a young age there are limitations that makes it harder to care for a child. More scare tactics(good ones), are diseases and whatnot.
Honestly, I never seen or heard much about the law being enforced when both parties are undaged, so I can't really say. Even media like talk shows with people who have had sex at a young age treat it as if it was not a really big deal. Too many loopholes I'd say.
I attend a boarding school, in the countryside near Oxford.
Pretty posh, huh?

You haven't got a clue. Can you really imagine asking a parent if they are cool with you fucking their innocent 17yr old daughter? Seriously though, that is without a shadow of a doubt retarded.

Hogwarts.

Of course it's retarded. No parent in their right mind would actually consent to their child having sex. That's why it's there.

It's 18 in Alberta. But then again, age laws never stopped anyone from drinking.
I grew up with 90% of my friends being Filipino, or some form of "Asian". It's kinda sad, I was assimilated in the asian culture at such a young age. Now, I'm slowly learning my true white heritage. Anyone want to watch Nitro Circus?
Of course it's retarded. No parent in their right mind would actually consent to their child having sex. That's why it's there.
Actually a shitload of parents would, and do. At least that way you can still tell them to use condoms or other methods of birth control and they'll actually listen instead of being all teen angsty about it and have sex anyway.
@Usopp:

Shitloads…....bwahahaha. What weird hillbilly settlement are you from?
No parent would do this, or take this position willingly. Plus anyone that's old enough to fuck knows about protection, they don't need to be spoon-fed by a guardian.
This isn't the stone age ya know.
It's a strange world SMUDGE. Never say never. You don't even have to live in the countryside to know the kinda stuff parents allow their teenagers to do in this day of age.
"No parent", is a bit too broad.

Judging from the handful of pregnant girls between 13-16 in my town I can conclude that most parents in England have no say on what their daughters get up to.
Its all to do with the new generation of kids being raised on benefits by the government.
I went to Odessa, Texas because that was where my brother and his wife lived and almost every 14-17 year old girl we saw was pregnant .
I know about parents that don't care if their kids have sex, but this is like AFTER they find out it's happening.
I think that, thankfully, I've been seeing more women in their twenties or so that're pregnant. A lot of them too which freaks me out. Or maybe I'm noticing them more. Is … is my biological clock ticking?????
@ Kairouseki Wha-?! o3o; So weird. Don't they like, teach them anything about that in school since there is a major problem with teen pregnancy? .___.;
I've seen pregnant girls at my school, ages 14 to 18. It's just awkward here…last year, there was a girl in my English class who was pregnant; she missed a few months of school after she had the baby. There's even a 'child care class' she took for most of last period. I remember her always coming in late.
American teens are dumb and think they're invincible or think that since their dumbfuck parents were 18 when they were SPAT out, they can do the same.
@ Kairouseki Wha-?! o3o; So weird. Don't they like, teach them anything about that in school since there is a major problem with teen pregnancy? .___.;
Well, they can't go outside, it's always 110 degrees (F). They have nothing better to do .

luffy i wanna be your little sis- SHUT UP

dies LOL The weather over in Cyprus is hot like that too but you don't see pregnant teens running around! :'D
Sudden thought, but what're other countries' views on dangerous dogs like pitbulls or doberman pinchers or … well, any dog that gets easily excited and can attack people?
Front page tabloid news in the uk every now and then when there's an attack on a child.
Various haranguing towards the owner and the government.
Maybe a hasty new law.
Then a month or two goes by and nobody cares anymore.
I live in a fucking forest. Cold forest. Filled with very very unsocial people. No interesting culture.
Try to guess what is this wonderful place.

Good to see it's not just Americans that are stupid with them then.
Mormon: you live in Gondoland
Gonzoland would be cooler.

I'm from the Netherlands, which is like one big metropolitan area anyway. Culture here is is a bit more advanced and civilized than in the US so I can't blame you for not understanding.
Wow free uni, I and all of england envy you. Yes you… specifically you.
Watch out, your wish may come true.
/me is from Austria, bloody cold in the winter thats why i pity the immigrants from africa or the middle east… Hard to describe the social situation - there's this ambivalence between the multicultural heritage and the xenophobic nature of this society.
loosing my language, again :/

so then you're in the Bronze Age as opposed to the Neolithic?
@ AL: Even though you see those kind of dogs around in Cyprus, there haven't been that many incidents with them. There was what? One attack against a little girl a couple of years ago? And I think that dog was put to death. Can't really remember now. Point is that there are very strict laws for dog owners so I suppose they are way more careful with their dogs.

I'm from England you illiterate schmuck. And explain how your reply has any relation to my post? Living in a civilised society has no bearing on the relationship between parents and their children when it comes to teenage pregnancy. This is obvious when you look at the countries effected by this.
Education is the solution.
