Note, I said similar not exact, now I'm not dissing Oda for using it especially if it was identical since that would have helped me greatly during summer class. Anyway back on topic (I'm not sure if this has already been done but I got tired after looking through a lot of threads), there's a couple of similar events between the Book and One Piece. (*Note, the order of the story and the events of the storyline is not listed in order, it was just based on what I could remember off the top of my head.)

First, Ussopp eating and getting huge, similar to Sinbad's fourth voyage where he met cannibals who fed the other sailors an herb that made them crazy and start eatting away until they were plump.

Second, Chopper landing on an island with two giant birds, now I know there are lots of huge animals in One Piece, but this part is similar to Sinbad's second voyage where he lands on an island with giant birds call rocs.

Third, Brook lands on an island where they allegedly soul their soul to the devil, during Sinbad's 7th voyage, he meets islander who were devils.

Fourth, Robin is on a island that is not an island per se and the revolutionary army. On Sindbad's first journey, he was on an island that was actually a whale and it nearly killed him but he washed ashore on an island where he was saved by the king's horsemen.

Well, that's all for now, all the connections I could make at this late of an hour. To all those who have no idea what I was talking about, hopefully later on in your life you are assigned Sindbad the Sailor you might remember something, to those who know of Sindbad the Sailor, I apologize if my comparison left out some valuable parts; remember it is very late here and I just wanted to get this notion off my chest as soon as possible (yes I made the connection at 12 am). Also, don't read too deep into this, I did say there were some similar parts, it would have been great if universities would assign newer popular manga as assigned reading.

Sloths…so bad@$$ they named it after a sin

Well, we'll have to wait until the end of the story to see if Luffy meets some other kid named Luffy and recounts all of these adventures to him (with the reader having played the part of Luffy II up 'til now).

I'm like Hisotensoku: Not here to preserve peace, nor to destroy it. I certainly can't move mountains. Mostly, I'm just full of hot air.- Meh
