So is anyone else watching this Sci-fi show?

I'm on the fence about it myself, I wasn't a fan of Battlestar Galactica, but I'm sure fans will appreciate the added flavor.

I can't really relate, or even like Brian J Smith as the point man, he's no RDA and certainly not as suave as Joe Flannigan. Eliot is going to get annoying fast, and I can't really see many of the characters sticking around past a season 2 if they want it to be successful. If they show wants to be Stargate, it lacks serious Teal'c and Ronan Dex sidekick flava.

As for the rest.. a doctor that looks and acts like Katherine Heigl, an evil scientist that is sabotaging their rescue, a cookie-cutter commanding military man (although Justin Louis is a fantastic actor), it's nothing new.. I can't believe they had Jewel Staite join for 2 seasons of Atlantis rather than this show, or even keep her around, such a waste of cast. Robert Picardo should also have been on the mission, Woolsey was a god.

I'm just a casual fan of Stargate series but I actually watched the first episode of Universe. Mostly since novelist John Scalzi is the show's creative consultant.

I think I will keep watching. Yeah, it's a bit like Battlestar Galactica. I digged that show. Even if I didn't really dig the fiction, or some designs, of the show. Those robots just…

Hm. I wouldn't classify that guy as an evil scientist :ermm:. I'm a fan of his actor tho.

Not really evil as in Cylons/Goa'uld, but evil as in "THIS MISSION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL OUR LIVES (lets characters get killed off).

A scientist that puts science above human lives (experimentation on humans, leaving teams of SG teams behind so that the mission can go on, rating usefulness of the crew) I don't consider that good. It's too Full Metal Alchemist.

So I dont get this series.

Im up to 7 episodes and what im wondering is.

When they switch bodies how come they go and have sex with their partners? Is that not weird?

Basicly it's another guy sleeping ur wife and next question How is it ok?

If i was givcing away my body i dont know if I want them going to sleep with someone

Or like how do they tell the other side how many are comming through and if they are male or female

I really dont understand how they can have full power to do whatever they want with someone elses body

The thing I like about this show, is that it's not continuous missions to a random planet, but at the same time, that was what I liked about the previous Stargate series.

However this series is different. Imagine a giant fan, in front of a slightly smaller ship. Now imagine god taking a shit in front of that fan. You now have Stargate Universe.

I've always liked the stargate series (regular one and atlantis), except perhaps the last few seasons after mcguyver (I mean O'neill) left. Not as a series that really captivates your attention or makes you ache for the next episode, but as solid low key entertainment. Didn't know there was a new installment so thanks for this post, I've now watched a few eps of SG:U and so far I'm not really impressed, it's a bit boring and I miss the humorous undertone from the previous series. But mainly most of the characters don't seem very interesting (yet, I hope). I do like the crazy scientist (Carlyle does a great job) and Eli. Props to the creators of the show to not stick some slim hunky guy in the "nerd" role like most shows do but they took a guy as a main character that really looks the part lol

Oh dear, is Stargate going in the direction of StarTrek? Only going downhill faster? (No offense to any major StarTrek fans.) Really they should have just stuck with the original series and not made any spinoffs. Well, I can't really complain since I do like Atlantis, and I don't think SG-1 took a turn for the worse when O'neil left the team (but it did lose some of its dynamics, I think). Been a long while since I've watched either of those series. As in I can't tell you if Atlantis is still going or that Sci-fi is still doing re-runs of SG-1.

On a random side note, I do find it interesting that the SG-1 series started with a movie and ended with a movie.

Huh? Going in direction of Star Trek? SG-1 was very much a Star Trek in new clothes. They visited a new planet in every episode which had it's own quirks and problems.

Or do you mean Stargate is going downhill? I suppose that's what you meant. Hm. I would say so far this seems like overall the best incarnation of Stargate yet. It's mostly a step forward. Although I never watched Atlantis beyond early episodes. For whatever reason.

I still don't think Rush is evil. Or no way crazy. I would classify him very pragmatic and clear-headed but somewhat distant.

So, I resurrected this thread because I just saw possibly the best episode of SGU ever. It quite possibly beats Atlantis stuff..

The truth is I haven't been following the series that much, but based on reviews, I've caught some episodes at random, so I've kept up with the story, and although nothing to this point has made me say "worth watching," this latest episode was… wow.

For anyone interested in giving this series a second shot, check out:
Darkness, Earth, Justice and Subversion, Subversion being the climax of the season IMO.

! (I hope I included the episode where Cl Young finds out his wife is cheating on him)

One thing did irk me, that throughout the intense scenes, when Young was staring at Telford, he's supposed to be looking at Rush who is shorter than him, but Telford is taller, and it breaks my belief that the actors understand the concept behind the stones.

I think they're well aware of it, but it's more for the viewers sake, or else it'd be awkward looking at someone talking to someones neck or chest. Sometimes being realistic isn't the best idea in entertainment. Which is why they pan between the host body, and the transferred mind in the first place.

I think the show is a bit slow right now, but I hope it get's as good as Sg-1/Atlantis. Though I immediately got hooked to Atlantis after only a few episodes.

I'm just waiting for Universe to introduce the new baddie, if they ever will have one. And throw a damn alien crew member on the ship.
