Looking forward to it! Still a massive shame that it didn't get a proper 3rd season though.

Holy crap could someone flip a light switch or something? Why is this so DARK? Can't see anything! Even the broad daylight shots are hyper dull and desaturated but everything underwater is just impossible to look at. It looks like they're going to put on the colors for "Under Da Sea" and then not anywhere else.
And WHAT were they thinking for that Sebastian design?
-
Geez, I tried to brighten one of the shots as much as I could and its still almost black. WHY?
-
Oh shit they done annoyed Robby but good.
-
-
My only hope is that they kept choosing very dark parts to show in the trailer. Like, a storm, at night, and inside Ariel and Ursula's caves. Very much hoping it's not as dark as it seems. But yeah, her treasure cove didn't need to be THAT dark. Sebastian does look awful.
The one thing that did please me was the small look at Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. It's like they're keeping her trailer spots short as to not spoil her.

The live action adaptations are all terrible so there's no point getting invested in them but at least make them LOOK nice. Ugh.
-
They couldn't even bother to try and change the colors of Ursula's spell! The texture makes it resemble something out of an animation. Like, when you stick that close to the original with no aspect being capable of surpassing it, why would I go for that experience at all...?

Because if it doesn't resemble the original can't cash in for nostalgia factor, and can't try to be original because of nostalgia factor. Also because "iT's OnLy CiNeMa wHeN tHeRe'S AcTors oN sCrEeN".

So it looks like SOME scenes will get some color, maybe even someehat consistently once Ariel gets on land, but it's extreemely hard to get excited when you have the original which looked great throughout the movie. Theres just...nothing here that suggests any edge in any field compared to the animated version. Like, if this soulless product must exist, sell me on why I would want to watch it compared to the version I already have! It has to be able to offer more than "satisfy your mild curiosity at what your nostalgic favorite would look like with people in it"

welp, at leas the OST seems to be in good hands. I think they'll deliver with it.

Miss Halle does have the voice. Let's just hope our dear Alan Menken can guide her.

That would make people invested in terrible unnecessary adaptations.

The Ghost and Molly McGee Season 2 starts on April 1st. Here's the trailer for Season 2.

God that annunciation was horrible.

This is the end

Nigeria, eh? Well, not everything African can be in Wakanda, so good for them.
-
I think Lagos is projected to be the largest city on Earth within the next few decades so it makes sense not just from a story standpoint but from a marketing one.
-
I don't care if you think the live action Little Mermaid will be shit (and it might be), things like this make it worth it:

Live action Moana with Dwayne Johnson incoming. Really in need of work huh Dwayne?

On the positive side, they took advantage of a few opportunities here. Mainly that Dwayne Johnson can actually play the character he voiced and is still actively acting, so yeah they can just use him for the remake.
But yeah, they're remaking a film from 2016, and while I liked it it's hardly Disney's best movie. It just feels mediocre.

Schaffrillas's reaction to live-action Tamatoa is going to be golden.

I'm tired of face-palming.

And so it ends, it was not an owl house... in fact it was an Owl Home.
-
Welp, the Owl House finale was as satisfying as could be expected.
-
It was a solid finale. Think it gave Luz the proper story closure she needed. Looking forward to seeing it again on YouTube when it shows up.
-
Great series finale for The Owl House. This is the end of the serialized era for Disney TV animation that started with Gravity Falls.
-
This aired before the episode. Would recommend watching if you haven’t.
And the finale proper for those that can watch it.
-
I really enjoyed it; it had fewer issues than the other two when it came to being compressed but they pretty clearly could have made a few more episodes out of it. The whole ending sequence would have been an episode by itself.
Also there was one scene where I couldn't help but think of:
-
On a small note Dana got busy in the final episode
-
OMG
-
Owl House had a solid ending.
This one felt like an actual complete story, unlike the first two specials which very much felt like "well we HAD a full season here... but now here's the cliff notes instead. The extra 20 minutes probably helped.
So they basically got 7 episodes of what should have been 20 episode season. Better than nothing and they handled it decently, but we'll always wonder what could have been if they'd been allowed to pace some of the subplots more appropriately.
Ah well, I'm sure there will eventually be comics.
-
I could go for an art book...or a history book by Lilith and Hootcifer.

Mark just dropped his hottest TOH fan comic to date

Warning. Very intense emotions at the beginning and end of this video.

The two things that got condensed that I miss the most is a full explanation for Eda's curse being so strong (besides thematic beats) and I really wish we had a full blown flashback to explain what happened between Belos and his brother.

-
@Nobodyman That jab at Steven Universe with a Meatcanyon art, is not only uncalled, unnecessary but also a bad faith take on the series.
Shitting on Stvfoe though, is fine. It reaaaaaally deservers.
-
Nah, SU deserves whatever shade it gets for its ending. "Just forgive the space genociders who have caused thousands of years of earth and trauma and suffering" is just... ugh. The ending they arrived at wasn't earned at all.
Obviously they'd expected to get a little more time than they had, things got short after the Garnet wedding sot hey had to rush... everything... with White but that doesn't excuse how iffy the end was given they were 150 episodes in at that point. Its not like they didn't have dozens of townfolk episodes they could have cut some of along the way to make the main story work better.

Teaser trailer for Wish is out
-
Well the ART is damn gorgeous, and kudos to Disney for experimenting a little like they're supposed to do. And one thing I like about this heroine? She has freckles.
-
Only just now noticed the goat is voiced by Alan Tudyk. The man is Disney's new Sterling Halloway.
-
A final batch of Post-Hoot TOH info:

We thought Sebastian looked dumb, but oh god Flounder looks so much worse . . .

Ugh, this is just so... lifeless. And dark.
Guys, when you're doing a shot-for-shot remake do a better job because the animated version is RIGHT THERE to compare to.
Why is it so DARK? This isn't Game of Thrones, come on! And who thought it was a good idea to have blocking where the vines in the foreground just cover the character's faces for huge chunks of time?
Like having them side by side, in the original, they spend 10 seconds of Eric leaning in showing interest and them both making bedroom eyes, and then a full 30 seconds slowly leaning in for the actual kiss, filled with cutaways to the animals reacting and making kissing sounds and building tension and anticipation for the moment before the boat gets rocked... nearly a full minute dedicated to that crucial moment...
and in the remake they finish the song, and then start leaning in for two seconds while danger music plays, and get knocked over. No buildup or anticipation or romance, it's just lifeless and perfunctory. "Oh yeah we did the song, I guess they're supposed to try and kiss now."
It's just... you have the original RIGHT THERE to go off of.
But hey, this movie is going to be a full hour longer than the original. I'm sure that'll make it better.
Ugh. I wanted to root for this because screw the racists but it looks just as incompetent as all the other live action remakes are. Almost as if the animated versions spend three years of hundreds of artists and writers lovingly crafted and editing and rediting scenes to perfection and the live action versions crap them out in a month or two and miss everything that works.
-
I'm guessing it's so dark because they stupidly decided it was night rather than the evening the original took place in. Y'know, before the sun completely set.
Right now, the only thing that has me interested is seeing Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and to see how Alan Menken and Lin Manuel-Miranda work with each other, b/c it's Alan Menken. But both of those can be done watching at home.
