Read the first issue of the new Gargoyles comic. It was . . . fine. Mostly because it was just Eliza filling new readers in on everything Gargoyles-related. I'm assuming the real meat of the story starts in the next issue.
I would call the art "fine" as well. Not bad, but not particularly impressive either. Except for the covers.

Phineas and Ferb coming back with 2 more seasons-What?!
Yaaaay I'm really happy about that! I've been on a P&F binge lately. It's just such a feel-good show for me that inexplicably never gets stale despite its incredibly formulaic premise. Plus, Candace Against the Universe proved to me that the creative forces behind the show still have some steam left in them.

It's 100% a "introduce new readers to the concept" thing. Which is fair given its been 27 years since the show was on the air and 12 years since the last comic. I'm fairly confident from the previews that issue 2 will have more meat on it.

It's be way better with a different colorist. The artist is pulling a ton of shortcuts to draw AND color it on a monthly schedule which is flattening the art and minimizing the backgrounds.
I'm not biased and trying to get on the book or anything.
At least its miles better than the SLG comic. I'm at least not insulted by the qualtity on this one.

Dave the Barbarian is definitely a reach for an oldie but a goodie I always forget about.
Lilo and Stitch the series is always one of the first for my memory. Although it did have that whole Stitch! spin-off sequel I never saw, it'd still be fun to see a redo of that.
American Dragon, Recess, Kim Possible, the Replacements, Super.Robot.Monkey.Team.Hyper.Force.Go, Ying, Yang, Yo; I'd have enough nostalgia to be interested to see any of them back with a new touch.
I'd even take an attempt at something new with the Hercules animated series (kinda bored of the new fad of making all the Greek myths awful) or Buzzlightyear of star command (as long as it's not too screwed up by that newer buzz movie). Emperor's new school probably wouldn't work.
-
I'm still waiting for The Weekenders and Dave the Barbarian to be added to Disney+.

Damn how did they fuck this up?

Disney Channel put the 2nd episode of Season 3 of the Owl House up on youtube.
-
This one didn't have anywhere near as many issues with the story being compressed into forty minutes as the last special but I could still see them adding another episode or two of material of Luz's group experiencing just how relatively weird and empty things are now along with some flashbacks of what the Collector and King have been up. I'm really going to miss this show when it's done.

Frozen 3, Toy Story 5, and Zootopia 2. Hoo boy.
https://movieweb.com/frozen-3-toy-story-5-zootopia-2-official-at-disney/Like, dudes, I know Strange Worlds was a dud. But really?
-
Disney Animation Studios went more than 50 years before making their first sequel. That was cool cause, you know, it meant that they were striving to be original and not relying on past successes for quick cash. And now here they are doing, well...that.
-
toy story FIVE? TOY STORY FIVE?
please
please let it end
-
Honestly, even Shrek stopped at 4 (well, discounting Puss in Boots).
-
To be fair, Shrek had a few real duds in its later entries, while Toy Story managed to keep a high quality throughout all four films. But I too think a fifth one is getting a bit exccessive. Frozen 3 comes as no surprise though.

Isn’t there a Shrek 5 supposedly in the works? Or is this purely speculation?
Anyways, I’m looking forward to Zootopia 2. I can’t imagine where they’d take a Toy Story 5 given how 4 ended, even more so than 4 when 3 ended. Frozen 3 sounds like the biggest cash grab but I’m hoping there’ll be a war with another country or other people with supernatural abilities.
-
@Gizmo From what I can gather, Shrek 5 has been an off-and-on project over the last decade, but as of now there is no definitive plan to release it.
-
@Nobodyman With Puss in Boots the Last Wish doing so well I can’t imagine them not going through with it in the near future.
Great movie btw dunno if I’ve said that elsewhere.
-
Zootopia 2 has the most potential (partly because it's the first sequel). They made quite the large and fun universe to work with, plenty of ways to make a good story.
The few shorts they made for Disney+ were adorable.
-
I don't know where Toy Story 5 will go in light of Lightyear flopping. Frozen 3 seemed like a given with how the second performed while Zootopia 2 is one that seemed like it should have been announced ages ago.
-
Toy Story 5... maybe its time for a reboot? Keep the franchise name and concept but all new characters? Two of the characters have retired, and two of the old voices have died, and Tim Allen seems to be not wanted around any more... maybe a fresh group of characters is the way to go?
Frozen 3 was obviously going to happen, hopefully they actually figure out what the plot is in advance this time. They literally didn't know who the main song was about till they were halfway through making the film. (It turned out to be &rolls dice* her mom!
Zootopia 2 I'm up for but those shorts they did a few weeks back were pretty bad. That doesn't inspire confidence.
-
Inside Out 2 is supposed to come next year as well, right?
-
Toy Story . . . well, outside of the fabulous shorts on Disney+ we haven't had a lot of time with Bonnie's original toys. If they want to make a movie exclusively about Bonnie's room that could work. But I would just hope that everyone would agree that Woody has retired.
-
I didn’t know this was being done. Lilo and Dtitch Live Action series is in the works. And Zach Galifianakis has been given a role, but what it is is a secret.

Lilo and Stitch had one incredible amazing movie, and then a few okay movies and forgettable tv series.
How To Train your Dragon had one incredible amazing movie, then a few okay movies and forgettable tv series.
The Croods... was kind of meh but visually stunning, followed by an even worse sequel and an awful looking tv series I haven't bothered with.
If you don't have Chris Sanders involved in the project, either scripting or storyboarding or directing , I just don't care. He's the secret sauce that launched these franchises, and without him live action Lilo and Stitch and Live Action HTTYD are probably gonna be very bad.
I will forever feel robbed that instead of getting American Dog we got... Bolt. Like maybe American Dog would have been terrible, but I'll take eyepatch wearing pirate cats, radioactive rabbits, gambling mobsters, and zombies over... the safe by the numbers snoozefest that was Bolt any day.

We can at least confirm that Melissa McCarthy has an excellent witch cackle:
-
I really don't like how she's doing the "wish I could be" by belting it to the rafters. That's fine as a end credits cover, but its missing the emotion of the original.
Its why they really need to send these things in dfferent directions instead of being shot for shot remakes, iit just makes it more clear where the problems are and what they missed and didn't understand.
-
Should just do the Cristhian Andersen version of it.

Yeah. I'm starting to feel this is going to be make or break it on Under the Sea or Poor Unfortunate Souls.
Like, she's a perfectly good singer. But it's the job of the director to tell her if belting it is a good idea or not.
-
Especially in movies like this where the behind the scenes are SO well documented. Where we actually know some of the director or composer notes so its always weird when there's a key component or idea or nuance just completely missed by the remake team.
-
It occurred to me that for all the sins of the live action remakes they didn't include Human Again or Morning Report. So those songs were good enough for the originals, but not the remakes?
@Robby When they were recording Poor Unfortunate Souls, Howard Ashman did a run-through of it for Pat Carroll and improvised a few lines that she ended up using. ("Pathetic," "Idn't it," "You can't get something for nothing," and "No more talking, singing, zip-pah.")

Morning Report is too good for this world. Even the broadway show doesn't contain it anymore!

Elton John just couldn't hit the notes, and they really wanted him on the soundtrack. So they settled for cramming Can You Feel The Love Tonight in at the last minute instead.
If Morning Report had been included in the original theatrical release audiences would have wept and cheered and passed out at the 20 minute mark, and it would have just overshadowed the rest of the film. You just can't have that kind of pathos before Mufassa's death.
We needed time to see the inferior version of the movie and soundtrack before they dared include the song that put the rest of the film to shame. It was only the extended length of Broadway's running time that we were privileged enough to ever hear that magnificent work of art, even if only for a short time. Of course Broadway also had to include Endless Night and we all know what a terrible song that is, its obvious why that never got added to the movie version.
-
Just be sure you’re being sarcastic Robby?
Memory’s Hazy but I could’ve sworn you used to be indifferent to Morning Report when mentioning it before.

I was just one upping Nobodyman's sarcasm, which you seem to have missed entirely.
Aside from that I actually have come to dislike it more over the years. It was fine as "one of 7 songs of varying quality to pad out the broadway show:" but it was absolutely terrible added into the actual animated flm, as was the Beauty and the Beast "To Be Human Again."
In both cases, if they were going to add a song from the broadway show in, they picked the weakest most pointless songs, rather than the ones that had heart to them and actually added character insight. Put in Endless Night or "If I can't Have Her" then we're talking.
Notably Pocahontas is the only one they did right by, in putting back in "If I Never Knew You" which MAKES the ending. I understand why it was originally cut for pacing but...
And Hunchback just needs the Gargoyles taken out. Completely. Its the main reason its the one live action remake I could see working, since the Broadway version 100% improved on the film. Less Gargoyles, more developed nuanced version of Frollo, more characters from the novel, the new songs are all decent but not great, and the actual original ending,.. if they're just wise enough to adapt THAT as the film version we'll be golden but they'll no doubt double down on the silly gargoyles and Frollo less scary or something.
-
Hey it gets harder and harder each day to tell when someone’s being genuine and when they’re screwing around.
And even when you can tell someone’s screwing around they default to “it was a joke” which is usually a bad one.

Um, wasn't the original ending in the book Esmerelda dying and Quasimodo burying himself alive with her in her grave?

Yes, the actual sad ending the story intended.
You don't have Jean Valjean live at the end of Les Mis, Seymore and Audrey don't survive Little Shop of Horrors, Aida is a tragedy or star crossed lovers at the end of the day, and so on.
Sometimes the story, especially when there's a revolution, calls for a not-happy ending or two, and Hunchback is one of those.
That sad the broadway show is a little kinder than the novel, Esmeralda dies but then they work in the "someday" song and imply her going to heaven, a reprise of Bells of Notre Dame where Quasi stands up straight and removes his hunch (because who is the monster and who is the man) and it's very... theater.

Super-realistic hologram of Walt Disney. Super cool? Or Super Creepy?

And this does remind me of how good a speaker ole Walt was.

Victor Hugo is one of those writers who is TOO depressing for me. I wouldn't blame Disney for changing the ending again like they did with the first one. Get rid of the gargoyles sure (or only keep Laverne), but try to keep it from being too depressing.
Although I think we can agree Quasi is very unlikely to remove his hunch in the movie.
-
I liked the show a lot for the reasons Robby mentioned, but it comes just shy of being my ideal version due to some adaptational choices. These might be endemic to the theatrical format, but I specifically remember a sequence during the climax where the plot suddenly moves super fast, and expository narrators literally declare how "suddenly, the crowd has a change of heart and rushes to Quasimodos aid" which was a little too blunt for me. Stuff like that stood out as a step down from the movie. Between the tonal massaging of the Broadway play and the visual storytelling of the film, theres' my perfect version.

Too soon for the end. Too soon.
