The original version of this song felt genuinely expressed by Jodie Benson. It didn't feel like Jodie singing a song. It was Ariel expressing her feelings.

This is the Beyonce/Grande/Mariah singing a cover of that. And that's fine and well. So many classic Disney's had a radio verson/pop edit of songs for their 90's films.

But have an actress try and actually fucking seem like they're in a movie, and not a student film remake of this animated picture.

At least this actress can actually sing and isn't just being auto-tuned.

Yeah. I'm gonna be staying away from these live action remakes. They're just not grabbing me. Maybe if Disney didn't play it safe and try making them a little more different from the originals I'd give them a chance. And it looks like we're not seeing the end of them anytime soon since they keep making money.

On a more positive note, I just starting watching The Owl House. I was immediately reminded of Discworld with the way it mocks and pays homage to fantasy tropes at the same time. While it doesn't have as many laughs as something like Gravity Falls, I still feel the same energy behind the writing. And on that note, King is definitely my favorite character. He kind of reminds me a bit of Chopper, with a bit of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The Disney films that are alternate versions like Pete's Dragon or either version of The Jungle Book can be solid but the ones that are straight remakes have consistently been downgrades from the original. It doesn't help either that they've avoided remaking films with substantial problems that might be fixed but have been focusing on more well received films that still look great even today. For instance, why not do a complete overhaul of Home on the Range? Nobody will be angry if you do that and there's a decent chance you'd make more money than the original did.

Far as the trailer goes, the song sounds okay up until that "be"; as is, the delivery throws off the pace of the entire song by drawing out a word in the middle of the sentence and shifts the focus from the sad trailing "world" off at the end.

Chris Hemsworth would be a good Hercules, but I don't really see Tom Hiddleston as Hades. Not his type of character. James Woods will always be Hades, but if they want someone different they'll have to find one who can live up to him. Although apparently Bruce Campell would love to do it.

Made it sound like a pop song, which it is not. I don't care if there will be one for the soundtrack, for the song IN the movie it should not sound like a pop song. Howard Ashman would be appalled.

I don't know if Disney will dare touch Home on the Range again, but Treasure Planet is actually one I wouldn't mind seeing live action.

Non-PotC pirate films tend to be box office poison since about the 1960s and Treasure Island adaptations released since then in particular tend to do poorly. Treasure Planet itself basically killed theatrical 2D animation in the United States.

Huh... now that you mention it, it probably should be a major remake project for Disney. Maybe it'd do badly enough to kill that entire remake series.

Even Muppet Treasure Island only barely, barely made it budget back, so it probably actually lost a fair bit of money after advertising and theater cuts.

But then Muppets is weird. Outside of the original film and 2011's The Muppets, none of them have done particularly well. (Though inflation means its a little hard to judge the movies that are 30-40 years old other than the original did VERY well.)

Despite how problematic as he is, you get anyone other than James Woods in that role and there is no point.

I mean, there's been no point in ANY of these live remakes other than the ones that actually tried to do something different like Jungle Book or Mulan, but still.

And yeah he's like 75 but the character would inevitably be all CG anyway.

But yeah, Hades is a role James Woods made entirely his own.

It does assume you're going for a point-for-point remake and while I certainly don't think Disney will (or should) do a more myth accurate version of Hercules, that doesn't mean a live-action Hades has to be a repeat of the Woods version. Make him different enough and it's fine.

Obviously, the best idea is just don't do a remake of the film.

Yes, representative is good, but Hollywood ain't doing it for the good aspect of it.
There is no woke pandering, as the far right could see if they had any text/medium interpretation. Hollywood is doing gender swaps and race swaps, or inserting queer character because they want to make the most soulless and laziest films based on some nostalgia hooking IPs and shifting the blame to the "bigot audience" if the film flops.
Not that there aren't bigots loudly screaming on the internet.

I think the 20 second snippet of Part of Your World sounds great. I think it sounds heartfelt and not at all oversung based on a single little run. I'm going to have to compelely reject the idea that the style of singing is at all opposed to properly emoting. I just read this thread and wanted to get my 2 cents in. I'm not super excited for the film or any of the live action remakes (though I think Aladdin was pretty great and a worthy counterpart to the original) but I wanted to give it some love.

Eh, it was a little part of a teaser trailer. Didn't impress me there, but we'll have to see the next trailer to see if there's more promise.

And I doubt the higher-ups at Disney care about the diversity or whatnot, but right now, who cares? These girls are so happy. Once this is done, then we can get started on kicking Disney's ass about more original works for minorities. Tiana was great, but can we get a movie based on an actual African tale?

They are running it through a blur filter so it looks less pixelated, they're not doing an actual remaster or putting any actual effort into it.

Also, the game is kind of really really terrible, it's a very weird choice to rerelease.

I say this as someone who owned it and played it a lot and actually beat it in the way only a 13 year old with only 5 games to choose from but that REALLY loved the franchise can.

It is when you only have a dozen games to choose from and you still never go back to the one.

Every other game in my SNES and Genesis collection I beat a ton of times and went back to again and again for years, for lack of options if nothing else. Same reason you'd keep rewatching the same movies and tv shows because they were what you owned and had access to, in those days before the internet.

I spent a week or two playing the gargoyles game to the end and then never wanted to deal with it again. it just sucked.

Yes, now when I have access to hundreds of games and a dozen different consoles, and could buy something new of the internet and download it on a whim, not going back to a given game isn't that big a deal. But back in the 90's when options were way more limited and you were ateenager who only got new gaems for birthday and christmas and what you owned is what you owned? Not so much.

Finished up my rewatch of Owl House and I'm really glad I did. I don't know if it's because it had been too long between season and mid-season breaks or if my dumb brain had trouble focusing, but there were a lot of plot points I missed on my first viewing of Season 2. That said, as great as Season 2 is, I feel it does hit you with a lot of information really fast, which I have to assume is due to Disney cutting the show short.

Still, the attention to detail in this show is amazing. Dana and her crew are really great at keeping track of every single character and doing cool background references. Like in Them's the Breaks Kid we see two girls who are very likely Boscha's future parents. moringmark's comics also really helped me appreciate it with his own expansion on the background characters and, until the show contradicts them, I'm going to consider them canon.

Oh yeah, and when I first heard the Collector I could've sworn he was voiced by Kath Soucie, but apparently it's someone else entirely.

Anyway, guess I finished my rewatch just in time as the S3 is only a few weeks away.

I' m more offput by the April one, but...

It's animation. It had a pipeline, if they make the thigns in order it can in fact be months before they finish a piece. Jus tusually studios hold them until the whole batch is ready and release them all at once.

I enjoyed that special but it definitely had enough material that it could easily have supported five or six episodes and not felt as rushed as a result.
