Amphibia gave me everything I could've wanted and none of the disappointing or meh mistakes of so many other finales. I was already rating Amphibia higher than Gravity Falls before this, but the finale clinches it. Absolute favorite and need to buy a box set of this series asap.
! As far as the epilogue goes, it's still got some of the standard epilogue writing issues we can't ever seem to get away from. The frog side skip was pretty much perfect, can't complain there. However, screwed up a little bit with all the 10 years talk, making it easy to accidentally think the girls are seeing each other for the first time in 10 years. At least, that was my initial thought. I'd bet this isn't even Marcy's first trip back, considering this is taking place as the girls are already finishing college. Going through the scene some more, there's no way these girls actually drifted apart. It just became more of a virtual friendship or whatever you call it. Sasha and Marcy's talk was just your basic small talk shit friends always do when they actually meet up after awhile. There's just something about being in person that makes you talk about stuff you technically have probably already discussed in text or online long before.

that you literally get handed a job offer from the higher plane of existence?
What a wild outcome for Anne. I guess she has until age 91 to make up her mind lmao -
A clip from the Chip n Dale movie is out.
Once again apparent that John Mulaney and Andy Samberg are the perfect pair.

JK Simmons is a treat in any movie:
And the hand puppet killed me.

https://www.slashfilm.com/864380/chip-n-dale-rescue-rangers-early-buzz-roger-rabbit-gets-a-worthy-successor/
Hnngggrrrrkkk early reactions for Rescue Rangers are pretty glowing, lotsa "Worthy Roger Rabbit successor," "Gut-bustingly hilarious", "loveletter to animation" going round…must not get hopes too high......But dammit, one of the most recurring statements is "I can't believe Disney let them get away with this!" and like FUCK YES YOU SAID THE MAGIC WORDS, chug that disgusting blue milk*, music to my ears I am IN
- Uh oh I invoked the Last Jedi in a positive way, thats the discourse equivalent of poisoning a water supply. Ah well, I'm excited.
(and for the record, a lot of the glowing statements are from self-professed Rescue Rangers fans)
-
I heard it through the grapevine that TOH S3 is set for October.
Man the suits that canned the show are sure rushing it over…gets LOK PTSD flashbacks. -
Well, since it's destined to end on those episodes regardless, why drag it out and wait?
I'm actually glad to have only a short period of time before those last bits of content come out. -
Okay, Rotten tomatoes currently at 78% for Rescue rangers, so expectations somewhat tempered.
Still, hope it'll be turn out like preceding animated Andy Samberg vehicle Storks, which has a 65% score and I found incredibly hilarious.

Good to hear that Chip n Dale is getting good reviews so far.
-
! Apparently the awful first Trailer Ugly Sonic has ended up in this thing.
I've softened on the whole thing with the more recent trailers but I still don't understand why use this exact brand and not just… something new. Or like I said before, Bonkers who was already in a world like this anyway.
Like obviously its been 30 years and they're never going to do another proper RR or Talespin or Gargoyles the way they did for Ducktales... but this really does murder any chance of ever playing it straight.
-
Please don't include Gargoyles in that . . .
-
So since everyone's been making a fuss over it for a while and since the series just ended, giving me a good chance to watch it all in one go, I've started watching Amphibia.
And, yeah, won't lie, this show is pretty damn appealing right from the get go.
-
Give us a piece of mind after S1 finale: Reunion and S2 finale: True Colours.
It would be nice to see some fresh opinions on the series and trio dynamics.
-
I think it's really interesting that they started off by showing that Anne's "friends" are pretty shady in that they pressured her into stealing something. Don't know if they'll stay her friends or if there'll be some kind of redemption or explanation, but I just feel like this isn't something I've seen in a kids cartoon (at least not often).
-
Like an ogre, their relationship has layers. But you only get the big picture halfway through S2.
-
Please don't include Gargoyles in that . . .
I hope as much as anyone that Gargoyles gets a revival (not a reboot but a revival) some day. More than most because hell, I might be able to work in that ecosystem if it ever did and Weisman was still involved.
But its been 28 years. Its great that its now old enough its finally getting some new merchandising, but the odds of the actual show ever coming back are slim. If it did, it would probably be Gargs 2198 which is just… eh.
-
It would be a very disney-esque movie to develop a series of Gargoyles that is live-action mixed with 3D CGI.

Fuck, I'd watch it.
And Weisman broke his 2-season curse with Young Justice, can't we believe?
-
And Weisman broke his 2-season curse with Young Justice, can't we believe?
Judging how…well vaguely gestures to a bunch of things in Young Justice and horrendous was the book he wrote for WoTC (though that was probably a 50-50 blame to share with WoTC) yeah I don't seen it coming.
-
Oh hey, while the forums were down it was announced we're getting a new Gargoyles comic from Dynamite Entertainment! Greg Weisman is on board writing.
Dynamite is a pretty decent publisher, I've worked with them before. They plan to reprint the SLG comics.
At this time I am not slated to work on them, sadly.
-
That's a shame. Hope they still come out well.
-
Sweet!
I guess comics is all we can hope for nowadays.
-
Disney's licensing structure with their comics will never stop feeling weird to me especially considering how they are about everything else.
"Hey, we own one of the two largest publishers. Shouldn't we have Marvel do this or even make an imprint just for our stuff?"
"Naw, let's sign deals with, like, ten different companies instead." -
Since the board was down when it came out. I really enjoyed the Chip n Dale movie. Seriously, it was just a fun movie. There were some cameos in the movie that I didn't expect.
-
While the forum was down I started watching Amphibia, after seeing some monster reviews based on the series. I'm going through season 2 right now, and I pretty much love it? The characters are strong, the humor is sharp, and the world is cool and tinged with darkness but not too much darkness. It definetely feels like it sprung out of the Gravity Falls mold, in a good way - the intro melody is even catchy as hell!
I thought the series did a good job at balancing very gradual worldbuilding and slight serialization with strong, episodic storytelling in season 1, and am a tiny bit nostalgic for that balance in much more heavily serialized season 2. Still, the episodes still do a good job of having strong, singular narratives, and as long as they don't omit old-school hijinx involving the entire Plantar family for too long (as opposed to Core character + Supporting character episodes) I'm happy. -
I did a watchthrough of Amphibia myself recently and, yeah, really doesn't make sense to me that this show doesn't get as much love as Gravity Falls or Owl House. It's fantastic. Here's my review of the series as whole:
Definitely gonna rewatch Amphibia someday and it'll be interesting to see how it holds up on a second viewing.
-
Been doing a rewatch of The Owl House, which led me to the discovery of the artist MoringMark, whom I just had to give a shout out to. He puts out really great fan comics of The Owl House that are very faithful to its art style and are super sweet and funny. Also, the man is a machine in that he puts out a comic, like, every day and they're pretty much all fantastic. He's also done Gravity Falls and Star vs. The Forces of Evil comics, but now works pretty exclusively on TOH.
That said, going through his archive can be cumbersome as there's so many of them, but I'd say it's worth it to read as many of them as you can which is presently what I'm trying to do. Also, some of his older comics are dated in that they contradict later story developments, but hey, nothing wrong with an alternate take on the story.
Here are some samples: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/wqpq4l/in_the_backyard/

Hey another Mark fan. I missed his Gravity Falls phase, but I been following him since his SvFOE days. On how he is able to produce so many comics, it appears that he has pre-made standard backgrounds from the series to use - which probably saves a lot of time.
-
Yeah, I figured there was probably some template he was working off of. Still, very impressive and I'm sure it's a lot of work considering he (I assume) doesn't make any money off of it.
-
Yeah, also don't think he profits from the comics he makes, it's just his passion for the series.
After SvTFOE ended he tried to kickstart his own comic series on tumblr (I think it was on the year Tumblr tried to nuke smut, or earlier) and made some comics about his passion for drawing and his burnout felling.
Also just by sheer volume he got a couple of ascended fanons. -
For the 20th anniversary of Kim Possible, Christy and Will had John and Nicole on their podcast and they did a new scene together. Man, all four of them got back into their characters perfectly.
-
With all the WB shit going down I got a little nostalgic for a few of my favorite Silly Symphonies (yes, Disney, I know, shut up).
A more pure time in animation. Makes you wanna take these and some Looney Tunes and bash Zaslav on the head with them.

i can help build the hammer to hit him over the head with.

Sorry Disney, as visually fabulous as this looks, I'm just not into it.
-
Holding a candle for the original?
-
Partly that, I'm also just sick of all the live-action remakes. The only one I've actually liked so far was Cinderella.
Besides, if I'm going to watch a Pinocchio movie this year, it's THIS one:
-
Wow Owl House S3 Background leaks.
-
I finally wrapped up season 3 of amphibia.
I'm crying
I'm crying so much
I love these characters. This show was so good guys. Damn.
-
The Zootopia+ should be a fun mini series.
-
Pinocchio is getting bad reviews. As I thought it might.
-
Oh yeah, this dropped too.
Boy, she really rolled that "be" around, didn't she?
I'm sorry, but why do singers still do that? Has no one pointed out to them how disgustingly obnoxious that is or am I the only one who thinks this?

THANK YOU
The original version of this song felt genuinely expressed by Jodie Benson. It didn't feel like Jodie singing a song. It was Ariel expressing her feelings.
This is the Beyonce/Grande/Mariah singing a cover of that. And that's fine and well. So many classic Disney's had a radio verson/pop edit of songs for their 90's films.
But have an actress try and actually fucking seem like they're in a movie, and not a student film remake of this animated picture.
-
Yep, not feeling it. Again visually stunning, again lacking the feeling.
At least this actress can actually sing and isn't just being auto-tuned.
-
Yeah. I'm gonna be staying away from these live action remakes. They're just not grabbing me. Maybe if Disney didn't play it safe and try making them a little more different from the originals I'd give them a chance. And it looks like we're not seeing the end of them anytime soon since they keep making money.
On a more positive note, I just starting watching The Owl House. I was immediately reminded of Discworld with the way it mocks and pays homage to fantasy tropes at the same time. While it doesn't have as many laughs as something like Gravity Falls, I still feel the same energy behind the writing. And on that note, King is definitely my favorite character. He kind of reminds me a bit of Chopper, with a bit of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
