I like a lot of the backgrounds, the music seems good, and its always cool to have a movie from a new cultural perspective. The hook seems a bit Eh but its early days, but my main problem here is that…I'm kinda tired of the Nu Disney Aesthetic? Like, first thing I thought when I saw the thumbnail was an involuntary and dissapointed "Oh, its this look again". Its not that its a bad look, far from it, but its been 11 years since Tangled. The Little Mermaid also started a Look way back when that subsequent films followed, but in the 11 years after that we got Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, Tarzan and Emperors New Groove. When stuff like Spiderverse, the Lego movies, Klaus or Mitchells vs the machines exist, I'm ready for Disney to look a bit different.

Trailer for Encanto.
As adorable as this looks (with songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda!), it definitely feels like someone got it from My Hero Academia.
-
That trailer does nothing for me. It looks pretty (because at this point they always do) but yeah, that style of CG is getting stale. Right after getting Luca?
But hey, more Lin Manuel is good, is he going to be their new go to every couple of films now now that Howard Ashman has passed and they're just saddling Alan Menkn with reworking his old stuff for the live action remakes?
Menkin is 70 so that's fine, but still.
-
Looking up the film it looks like Maribel is being voiced by Stephanie Beatriz, aka Rose Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. So now I'm a little more interested.
And a comment in the youtube made a good point at how this looks like it was tailor-made to be a walk-through attraction at Disney World.

I feel like Robert Lopez and his wife were going to be their new Menkin, but now that Lin-Manuel Miranda has written songs/music for Moana, Star Wars, this, AND is working with Menkin for new songs for the live-action Little Mermaid, he might be!
Menkin has never been able to find a songwriter that worked as well with him as Ashman did, maybe Miranda can go the distance. As it were.

My mind went to Up Up and Away instead, but I couldn’t tell if the entire world had super powers except her or just her family like in Up Up and Away.
Another thing that throws me off is Maribel is supposed to be 15. It doesn’t help that all her shots have her surrounded by tiny children but I did not get a 15 year old vibe from the design at all.
Also excited for Stephanie Beatriz, she has quite a range voice acting wise. Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show and NCIS game) is also doing a voice which is cool.
-
Yeah, the "15 years old" threw me for a loop too, the design (and age of the VA) had me thinking "30 year old grad student"
-
I see the "animal that inexplicably acts like a dog" is a tapir this time.

Yeah, she looked like she should be at least in her 20s. And despite Beatriz's talent, she doesn't sound 15 at all. So that's one demerit.

lol. The tapir (which is hilarious), and all those animals that one kid seems to talk to. Which, let's be fair, has to be the best gift out of that whole family.
-
Let it be attributed to Lin-Manuel Miranda's gift that after watching the trailer a couple times, that "Colombia" song is now stuck in my head.

This TOH was brought it you by:

Amphibia's third season premier October 2nd.

Excellent. I love the new Mickey Shorts but can't stand how Goofy looks in them. So I'm glad to see they're leaning a bit closer to his classic style here.
-
Yeah, there's something that is just off-putting about his design. I guess it's because it's based more on Dippy Dawg with the vest only and general seediness but Disney only ever really used that design once. Doesn't help either that Goofy has worn a full set of clothes for most of his existence and most of the characters in those shorts in general do as well.

Today is St. Hootsifer's Day. All Hail the solver of problems.
-
Hooty steps up to the plate and promptly launches the ball into the next county.
-
The (spoiler) moment was every bit as adorkable as I could have hoped for.
Good job Hooty. Without yourmeddlinggreat plan, this wouldn't have been possible so soon. -
Hooty could easily solve every problem on the show if they would just let him.
-
Ep11 Hooty eats Belos. End of the Story. 10 Episodes of SoL exploring the Boiling Isles and Three 40 min specials.

! You sure?
! LUMITYYYYYYY! And more Echo Mouse info, and interesting reveals and dope power-ups for Eda and King, while we're at it! This episode had all the good things. After watching, I found it kinda funny to read that there were apparently a lot of fans who went into this episode expecting it to be "basically filler", whereas I figured it was probably gonna be a really important episode precisely because the episode description was really vague-sounding. I feel like there are a lot of animated series that have done that, where episodes that have a completely unassuming name and/or blurb end up being some of the most substantial ones. -
I think people learned nothing form the bait and switch titles SU had. Since the season was being a blast I had no expectation on any episode and all knocked my socks off, but damn Hootsifer your are great.
-
I like how The Owl House seems to be going the same direction as Gravity Falls.
Specifically in the sense of season 1 being mostly establishment of the characters,
the protagonist(s) becoming fully used to their new way of life,
some mandated episode themes (eg the body swap episode),
little bits of character/story progression sprinkled here and there,
and then it ends on a serious/epic finale that makes major changes and kickstarts the next phase of the story. Then season 2 comes along…. and it's hit after hit after hit.
Suddenly character and story progression are at the forefront.
Banger after banger.Seems to be the case so far, at least. I'm here for it.
-
Loving this season to bits, too! And the illustrations at the ending are just marvelous, I always watch them until the very end.
I tryed to get into Amphibia, but I'm 2 episodes in an nothing there is working for me. Does it change the tone a bit further down?
-

Does it get's more plot heavy? Yes, by the middle-end of season 1, and again the middle and than comes back to be very plot heavy on the second half of S2. Does it shy away of tone down Anne and the Planter's shenanigans? No.
-
I've actually had the opposite experience. I got hooked on Amphibia pretty much from the start and am always happy to leave marathons of reruns of that on while I'm doing other stuff and am very interested to see how they handle their 3rd season coming up. I think Amphibia in general is potentially the best disney's managed at these types of cartoons in the past decade so far.
Owl House didn't get me on my initial viewing back then and I've generally been too lazy to sit through more to see it get better yet. From the premier and random clips/moments, animation seems great and probably has some fun stories, but the characters were a tad too annoying for me and I've kinda had trouble getting past that to regain interest.

Pretty nice episode that ended up being
! middle to low stakes. Yesterday's Lies is gonna break us.
And I bet Hunter is a Grimwalker, or Belos is Philip's soul inhabiting a grimwalker.
And Amity is a pretty great girlfriend. -
! That fight animation was siiiiick!
Amity is so good at combat when she's not distracted, she did really well. -
So who is ready for some trauma?
-
Damn it I was not ready for that.
! Grunkle Stan was really married to Eda. Nor that Sus Luz was a shapeshifter demon, the "You chose to stay there was really painful.". So which was the lie, the promise or what she told Eda and co.?
-
! I'm tearing up and it's Camila Noceda's fault.
"Who knew I had such a strong girl living under my roof this whole time?"
Best mom.
! ….......fuck. Now I'm upset about the ending.
Luz, that was one humdinger of a slip-up. The pain in Camila's voice was heartbreaking.
And now Luz has the world's worst ultimatum on her hands. Fuuuuun. -
where do you guys watch it? The D+ account I have access to only has up to s02e05…and streaming devices are stuck on episode 09...

You are on the discord server? I can dm you the link to the maga or to the owlclub.
But D+ will be putting the rest of S2a buy the end of the month, I think. -
I don't use Discord at all, but it seems I'm about to start! You do speak Portuguese, right? Can I PM you to understand it a bit better?

Sure thing, as to avoid the forum receiving a new DMCA I’m avoiding of posting link official scans to official scans form aggregators or download links.

! great episode but it gives whole new perspective for the basilisk that showed up in season 1. It was under the guise of an emperor's coven inspector, perhapsthat was its guise when it escaped. It also corroborated with when that episode happened right around Vee escaping.

I was so moved by the episode that I did this:

Some great news, all three seasons of Pepper Ann is coming to Disney+ on September 8th. I'm excited to see this show again.
-
Ohh Pepper Ann, I really liked that show as a kid.:happy:Cool
-
I thought Pepper Ann had five seasons though.
-
Three seasons on ABC, two season on UPN might be an issue.
Who knows what licensing hell anything from UPN might be in given its weird Paramount/Disney/Fox/WB/CW/ABC/CBS/Nickelodeon hybrid merging and breaking and selling and licensing and renting and rebranding it was.
-
Ah, UPN. Where the Pokemon anime got its start in the US and…that's about it as far as I care.
-
The finale was part of the UPN batch and aired on Toon Disney since that was where I first saw it. It may just be a situation where Disney just considers the UPN episodes as part of the last ABC season.
-
I thought Pokemon was always on Kids WB.
-
I thought Pokemon was always on Kids WB.
Once it got insanely popular, yes. But I distinctly remember the first 40-odd episodes airing on UPN first.
-
I thought Pokemon was always on Kids WB.
Nope. First WB episode was Charizard evolving, it was elsewhere for the year before that.
-
I used to watch Pokémon on Citv
(a free-to-air kid's tv channel in the UK owned by ITV)The channel played several cartoons and shows for kids throughout the day,
with a chipper presenter entertaining the viewers from a studio set between the episodes.I always used to sit down in time for him to say "AFTER THE BREAK, WE'RE GONNA CATCH SOME POKÉMON. Are you ready for that kids??"
And I'd be like "YESSS"Ah, simple times.

Like, REALLY NSFW.
