Well said. Largely my fault this time.
I think the only way we could ever find out the answer is to be hit with Giganto Rocket vs a Gear 2 maneuver and since it would probably kill us we could never tell anyway :D

Second paragraph is wrong. Unless a collision is inelastic, surface area, density, and time are irrelevant, as the force from one object to the other will be the same. And with force I mean the acceleration one will produce upon the other.
As to how much it hurts, that is a whole 'nother ballpark. Variables here are the materials' hardness and the surface area of the part that makes contact with your body. Generally a 10kg force divided in your entire body won't be as damaging or hurtful as that same force applied to a mm circumference, that will probably pierce your flesh.
Thank you Verilance. A breath of fresh air if there ever was one.
Yes because being hit by a mass of water and by a mass of ice hurts equally. Also wtf, the longer the time of impact, the less the force. As well as pressure being the force over the area.
You're changing the rules though. The force of the pillow is the same as the one in the bat, but the one from the bat gets transferred completely, because the collision is not inelastic, like the one from the pillow would be, due to it's fluffyness.
well there goes your entire fucking point.
oh wait that's what I was trying to explain like over 9000 times, but I guess I'm just a retard and you are a genius.
another subject. anyone know how much earthquake power WB had to generate for a tsunami like the one that was supposed to hit Marine HQ???
are we talking Richter scale :D
a heck of a lot those were serious waves lol

Did you read the post you're replying to? A collision with a formless mass of water will probably be rather inelastic, so anything you have just said is actually exactly what I said. On the time thing, no the total force is the same regardless of the time it takes to exert it. The power will be different, but in this case negligible.

My point stands because a normal Luffy punch and the Gear 3rd punch have the same density at the point of contact, and yet Gear 3rd has more power, so it can only be attributed to an increase in mass. The example I was talking about, which you humorously tried to disprove me with, is completely different.
I am actually a person with absolutely average intelligence. You on the other hand, not so much. Stop making a fool of yourself arguing over things no one really cares about.

Wow and what's the cause of the inelastic properties? Oh derp, it's density. And why are inelastic things less painful when you get hit by them? Because the time of impact is longer, that's why you kick a soccer ball with the tip of your shoes. You know jack shit about physics.
Screw math. It's hard. That's all I have to say.
Ah these chapter threads always become trainwrecks after a few days.
I meant to quote you before when you brought it earlier. These chap threads usually reflect the chap. Seems the fans can't just enjoy the chap enough so they delve in to things they're unsure of, upset about, and things they're not willing to accept.
Plus most of the speculation and theory discussion goes on in spoiler threads. Word to the Ace is Roger's son spoiler thread.

LOL. Inelastic collisions are not less painful because they take more time. It's because kinetic energy is lost in the collision. The density of the water has nothing to do with how much it hurts in that example, but the fact that water has no shape in the first place. And density alone does not decide how elastic or inelastic that collision is. There are very dense liquids. A ton of sand dropped on you from a truck won't kill you and yet it is a solid. It's denser than water.
I was being nice to you by the way. But you know jack shit about physics. Really.
@Zik: that Ace and Roger spoiler thread was insane.

What does everyone have against Picard?

Yeah I noticed that, questions in the chapter thread are usually just rehashed spoiler thread questions. Like "Is Garp the Dog df VA?"
I like this one.
I'm using that from now on.

I don't know why I came in here expecting a good conversation.
@Kairouseki:
So…is this a double implied facepalm? Cause I don't always get these things.
Yes, double implied facepalm.
I wonder if Buggy will ever realized his own potential and become strong?
It's good to see Smoker in action again. But I have one question: How can Luffy evaluate Smoker's strength? Every encounter had Luffy running, his comment made no sense.
Moria was disappointing. I doubt that he is down for the count, but even taking a hit that devastating is low tier behavior. I'm going to take this encounter as more fuel for the Jimbei Can't Join Cannon. Any character that can supposedly oneshot a rather recent former arcboss shouldn't join the crew. The Strawhat power scale would go bonkers.
Luffy might be referring to smoker's increased speed, Luffy is at Geaer 2 and he was not able to dodge smokers direct frontal attack.
True. That could be what he's commenting on. Hmm…
Luffy has been hit by Smoker before. And unlike Hina, he couldn't just blitz past him. Since Luffy does have some grasp of how powerful he has become, it's reasonable that he can compare his strength now to what it was in Loguetown and how powerful Smoker was to him then. Either way, his comment seems to hold some weight since Smoker took a kick from Hancock and didn't seemed fazed by it.
Buggy should be an interesting case. I think he'll grow a lot stronger during this war, not up to luffy levels, but stronger all the same. Who knows, maybe Buggy may actually become a decently strong pirate after all this. God knows how high his bounty is going to shot up.
for all those asses wondering why their aren't any spoilers out yet and if there will be a chapter this week:
yes.
for all those asses
Random line of the day: "Eine Insel mit 2 Bergen und dem…"
Didn't gave them a tutorial on how to figure it out?
God….. I dunno why people think Jinbei defeated Moria.
Seriously people, it's just ONE PUNCH!!!
One….......Friggin'......... Punch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moria is diappointing because he recieved a single punch from Jimbei and went "Ugh!!"?? WTF
People, I believe there will be more to Moria than meets the eye.
..so SHUSH!!!!!!
Jimbei created more mass in his fist the moment he hit Moria, that's why he knocked him out in one hit.

Indeed… "Jimbei the Physician."

Interesting point of discussion. I like it.
Let's say he did take out Moria. I'd buy it actually.
1. He hasn't had much time to recover from his ass-whupping and a TOWER OH MY GOD FALLING ON HIM. And the same would hold true for Luffy IF he weren't already hopped on Iva-mones and had the fatigue completely removed from his body by Kuma.
2. We haven't had much proof that Moria is a strong opponent when it comes to actually fighting someone fist to fist. I would agree that ability does NOT equal strength. That is to say, even if he doesn't fight someone hand to hand, since this is a world with DF's where even a lame DF like a rubber one can be AMAZING when used properly, using shadows still is viable as being a powerful opponent, BUT it doesn't mean he can take a lot of damage. So when he takes a powerful direct hit from a fellow Shichibukai, I'd buy that it might take him down considering the circumstances. Luffy really only hit the guy directly a few times in their battle, and he didn't come out looking pretty from each one.
Great discussion topic though, looking forward to other takes on it.
Moria did one-shot Oars jr. I doubt Jimbei would've had that much ease with him, so it's all in the differences between their abilities. It's like in a game like Dota where you can't just say that one hero is stronger than another because some heroes are better at hero vs hero, others are better vs soldiers, while others have a support role.
I do believe that with a great doctor like hogback and the time between TB and the war Moria recovered pretty well- Otherwise there wold have been signs. Maybe him trying to hide the ache showing us that he still has pain.
Greg you can't compare it with luffy who had amazon lily and ID in between TB and the MHQ
I don't know why anyone is surprised by Jimbei punching Moria like that (and no, of course he isn't KOed). They're shichibukai. This isn't a battle against underdog and champion like it was with Luffy, both of these guys are in the same league. I would think it would make sense that these guys would be able to hurt each other without going to a huge amount of trouble, again like Luffy often does.

thanks for telling us,i can't wait
my opinion
jinbei uses fishkarate and is so a high class fighter when it comes to close range…he sure hits damn powerful and with precision
so being able to land a fatal hit on the first try is sure some of his talents.
we can consider that every hit of jinbei is with so much power behind it that it would be more clever to hold him at a distance.
other shichibukais profit more cause of their weapons or their DF ability..
jinbei has advantage in the water(against every1) and in close range battle cause of his powerfiul karate...i think we can assume that he has the strongest punches from all shichibukais when it is with just bare fists..
now to moria..his power isnt his strenght of his body or fists.. he is more a tactic who uses his DF-ability to create a long-range fight.. when it comes to a close range fight he isn
t dominant but sure he is also not helpless.
against jinbei he is in a disadvantage cause here jinbei can use his strenght at his best limit and moria just has the option to build up his defence and doing a sneak-attack.
in this chaqpter moria was building up an offensive move in trying to get jinbei`s shadow, but moria was a little to confident(maybe cause of the circumstances) and got his bill..
a direct hit which could be fatal, but still he is a shichibukai and can withstand some hits...but against jinbei 2-3 will be enough to lose the fight.

nice and convenient.
I doubt Moria's finished. That was merely the first hit you'd expect from a battle between high powers. Besides his eyes weren't blank, they were clearly looking down on Jimbei.

Does this mean Tuesday/Wednesday chapter?
And to bust in to the Moria discussion, he is definitely not down yet. That'd totally wreck his status as a Shichibukai and it would go against Oda's style. Characters always get up from a KO at least once.
It took a punch from Nightmare Luffy to make Moria unconscious for a few minutes. I doubt Jimbei's stronger than Nightmare Luffy.

Yes, and I doubt Jimbei can last a second when Moria consumes one thousand shadows and punches him.
Smack! Instant fish-stick.
Ye it went so well when he did that vs Luffy.. Moria should learn to do his Asgard at the start of the battle when he still has his sanity :P

Oh yes, only to be pwned by the combined firepower of 43 Pirate Captains, Division Commanders and one of WB quakes to the face. It's a great idea to attract attention in this battlefield, like Oars did to great success.

Remember that he was only defeated by Kaidou before Luffy !
