Loving it, but my avi is Brendan Reed simply because he's the epic leader of an epic organisation. May start campaigning soon though.

Spoilers for the end:
! The monolith is revolving around Jupiter, and when Dave goes through it he's transported to another part of the universe. On his journey, beings reveal to him the secrets of the universe through the landscapes and colors. Eventually he reaches his destination, an environment constructed for him by the other beings. He sees his life flash before his eyes and eventually he dies, bedridden while the Monolith watches. He is then evolved further, into a Starchild, the ultimate being, and commences to watch over the Earth.
There's a novelization of the movie that was written at the same time as the movie that goes into a little more detail, but the movie is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. The line above my avatar sadly wasn't included in the movie :sad: . There are 3 sequels:- 2010: Odyssey II
- 2061: Odyssey III
- 3001: The Final Odyssey
The 2010 movie at least was terrible, though I'm not sure how close to the book it was.

It's perfectly normal. 2001 has probably the biggest mindfuck sequence in movie history, so I doubt anyone understood on their first viewing. Speaking of which, I really need to watch that movie again. A few days ago, I saw this video where a guy was explaining things the monolith, and it blew my mind at how much symbolic imagery is in it. He almost made it sound like there was something hidden in every shot. I wouldn't doubt it, either.
Plus, I tend to like Kubrick movies more after repeated viewings (Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange)

Very nice. I loved Reed. Along with Lloyd and Linus and Nino and the rest of them. That one has such a great storyline.
Now I want to replay it for the umpteenth time.

The Venture Bros. is no reason to be sad! And only the original novel and movie were great. I count them as separate entities, though, because they are vastly different in nature, especially with that completely visceral ending in the movie.
