Who's gearing up for one of the greatest shows in history?
On July 4th,the special comet probe Deep Impact will release an impactor which will slam into Comet Tempel 1 creating a huge explosion which will be visible from earth.
I won't be getting to see the impact, but I'll be able to see the dust cloud when it's night here.
Whoever's in the US,get out your telescopes or binoculars or just go outside on July 4th to catch this spectacle.

Idiots scheduling it for 4th July. Nobody in the US will see anything for the fireworks exhibits.

That is to say, if you live near a place that does fireworks
-
sounds really neat! Any idea when it will happen and what areas will be able to see it?
-
Wow, any links to NASA or something? I wanna see it
though I can't
Well Pep, at least you can see a teeny bit of the explosion when we can't even do so here on the otherside of the world.
-
people in asia will see nuts. not even a flash i think. damn you lucky people who are able to see it.
-
Yes,you can use a telescope for better viewing.
You should be able to see it with the naked eye as a small twinkle which expands into a splotch.
People in Asia will only see the splotch, not the initial impact. -
UPDATE.
The explosion should be able to be viewed starting at 6.00 pm US time.
The resulting cloud will be visible for a few days before dissapearing.
I'll be setting up my MEADE telescope on my roof to catch it. -
MEGA UPDATE
Here's the link to the website where they will show the webcast of the crash.
The impactor has been launched and will impact at 11.30pm EDT. -
