Wow, some of you folks are outright nasty about people having cell phones. o.o Not every American with a cell phone is an idiot, it's just that there are some idiots who happen to have cell phones o_O
I have a cell phone, it's pretty much my life line. We don't have a set home phone any longer, I have my cell, and my fiance has his. What we pay isn't all that much more than we paid for our land line. We can call each other free, anytime, and long distance after 8pm during the week, and all day on the weekends, that's free as well. When it's not during those times, we have 1000 anytime minutes.. which we always end the month with an abundance of, since we seldom need to use them.
I drive a lot, and my phone's actually pretty important to me since, as a courier, I can call dispatch whenever I need to. If I need a zip code, or a stop isn't on my route, I can call it in. Also, if I break down, or the onboard computer fizzles, I'm not SOL on the side of a road somewhere. I'm on the road 5 hours a day, so being stuck without a phone would REALLY suck. I've had a truck break down on me 5 times in the last 6 months.
However, my phone is off during movies, that's just common sense. I also don't use my phone while driving, although I have a hands-free set so, if I like, I can have someone on the phone giving me directions to a mystery pickup if I should need it, which is rare.
As for ring tones… I wouldn't mind some custom ones... but it's not very important to me. The phone is convenience, that's all. My old phone had "Blue" by Eiffel 65 for its tone... I did love that thing so, I had to program it in myself x.x Now it's just some groovy little techno beat, which suits me fine.
Either way, I love my cell phone. When I first got it, I was driving a beat up '87 Toyota Pickup with a penchant to breaking down.
Just wanted to toss that out there... the cell phone is kinda important to some of us o.o
Just thought the whole "Americans can't use cell phones" generalization was a little over the top. >.>
