Somewhere on rocketman!
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Post yer first weekly chapter you started following with
-
Somewhere on rocketman!
-
I caught up during the Duval thing.
-
Watched the anime from episode 1 to 110, took a break, after one year I watched 111, took another break and after another year I got to the latest episode (start of Usopp vs Perona) and didn't want to wait so I started reading the manga from that point.
-
My first chapter was the one where the Strawhats fought the Pacifista.
-
I think it was either Chapter 431 or Chapter 432.
-
Somewhere in Impel Down, after I got impatient with the anime and had to know what was going on.
-
I started following it with the first chapter of Amazon Lily, even though I haven't read past the end of Alabasta, or watch the anime continuously since after Robin's flashback. Speaking of which I need to get the speedup volumes.
-
Mine:
http://view.thespectrum.net/series/one-piece-volume-01.html?ch=Chapter+501-510&page=96It was a good day.
-
The chapter when Robin jumps out of the window of Iceberg's house, and Luffy, Zoro, Chopper, and Nami first see Lucci's transformation.
-
oh my, online? i think it was nearing the end of the skypiea, at jojohot.com.. tat was in 2003.. when i stop buying manga..
edit: just check.. last book i bought was 27 so.. so it should be chapter 256..
-
Around chapter 335 I think. The name of the chapter was "Coup de Vent". I read 334 chapter in 3 days before that, it was GREAT.
-
I like looking at this thread since it seems like a screening process Jerk Disease made.

So those that started the series later are bad posters?
-
When s-manga.net had the first two pages of the latest issue of Weekly Jump, I went on the site when it had Chp 379- "Power Level." (Heh, I remember how that chapter was a color spread and I was like, "Is this a One Piece color spread? It looks like a really good fanart." Back then I'd only seen the earliest color spreads, which I thought were okay, but I liked this "new" one. Oda's art style had changed from the American Jump chapters I was reading also.)

Actually, I believe his general meter based on join date is whether said bad posters joined during or slightly after Enies Lobby. Or more like because of Enies Lobby.
Though it can include your conclusion as well depending on idiocy.

Good chapter, too.
EDIT: I guess it should be noted that there was a patch where I stopped reading for 20-30 chapters somewhere in there though.
-
Luffy vs Marigold and Sandersonia.
-
Chapter 490. 'Getting There Again'
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-490/page001.html
-
http://view.thespectrum.net/series/one-piece-volume-01.html?ch=Volume+39&page=145
I'm sorry.
It was a pretty gross time for the fanbase and this forum in particular, I remember.
-
Chapter 495 was when I caught up.
I wasn't pulled in because of Enies Lobby though, so yay.
-
Near the end of the CP9 arc, right about the chapter where Dragon is revealed as Luffy's father.
-
Chapter 475: "Pirates of the Forest" was when I started to follow One Piece weekly but I remember getting curious about One Piece back when Zoro was fighting Kaku.

Smack dab in the middle of the usopp wars.
I would love to see someone whose first chapter was when usopp was a sword.

I am pretty close. I started reading One Piece when chapter 515 was released but the first chapter I read was chapter 400.
-
Near the end of SA arc, before that I was Anime Only.
-
Smack dab in the middle of the usopp wars.
I would love to see someone whose first chapter was when usopp was a sword.
It was only a few weeks before those awful Douriki arguments broke out too.
Really a very unfortunate time to catch up.
-
Watched the anime first, but started to read the manga when it was about the middle of the Water 7/EL arc
-
Chapter 8 in American Shonen Jump.
http://view.thespectrum.net/series/one-piece-volume-01.html?ch=Volume+01&page=180
When I got caught up though it was the middle of Water 7 I think.
-
I think it was around the chapters of volume 41 …
Before reading the weekly chapter I just read the German volumes of OP and after finishing volume 40 I thought about searching the internet for online chapters ... well it was really late but I never made the connection between One Piece chapters and the internet ... with Naruto chapters I did though lol -
It was only a few weeks before those awful Douriki arguments broke out too.
Really a very unfortunate time to catch up.
Lot of terrible members came out of the woodwork then.
idiot 1 : FINALLY WE CAN MEASURE THE POWER LEVELS.
person with more then five brain cells : …this is probably only arc specific. And a gag.
idiot 2 : WHITEBEARD WILL HAVE DOURIKI OF 10 MILLION BEFORE HE POWERS UP. USOPP WILL DEFEAT A MEMBER OF CP9. LUCCI CARRIES A BARREL OF WATER TO BEAT CROCODILE.
Of course these days we have the Ambition fixation as the latest "finally something we can directly compare with dragonball".
-
i started with the Enies Lobby arc
-
All I remember from those dark times were the Usopp Wars.
Can someone dig up the chapter threads with those in them?
-
I started watching the anime after Greg started his grandline website after his Dragonball Z website. That made me curious so I started watching the anime and was hooked, but struggled to find the newer episodes. I eventually found the Manga online at some MSN site. I don't know the exact chapter but it was during the Water 7 arc during the night of the assassination attempt on Iceberg. I think I read the whole series up to that point and stopped watching the anime completely.
-
My very first One Piece experience was when I moved from my parents' home in the countryside to live solo in the capital (Brussels) in 2004. I felt alone and had to watch something to break the silence. I had heard of One Piece before and decided to try. Kaizoku Fansubs had just released episode 86. It was so good I bought the HK dvds to watch the anime ahead of Kaizoku Fansubs (Alabasta mainly).
Soon after, I downloaded and read the latest One Piece manga chapter out. It was when the SH met Ao Kiji in LRLL, around chapter 320. I kept reading the manga chapters on a weekly basis ever since.
-
I started reading One Piece when, out of boredom, I bought the 6th volume of One Piece in Italy (about 10 years ago), so the chapter was the 45th one.
I started following weekly spoilers and translations from chapter 110 (When Luffy attacked Zoro and Mister 5 was introduced) and stopped reading during the Skypea arc.
I started reading again One Piece every week about 3 years ago when I started living together with a Japanese girl (Ennies Lobby ended and Thriller Bark started).
Right now I'm in Japan and I read One Piece in Japanese every week and I'm very happy about it
I have to say that reading it in Japanese is a much better experience. There are a lot of very funny puns that always get lost in the translations. -
Wow what an interesting thread! Amazing to see how everyone got caught on one piece fever.
Having said that I was fortunate enough to start reading one piece from volume 10 (japanese tankoubon) which is around the arlong park arc. I think this is about 14 years ago now… :S i still remember when my cousin from japan came over for the holidays and brought the first 10 volumes (which was the latest at the time) and had been obsessed with the manga ever since. From memory at this given point in time, it had already been a very successful and popular manga hence my cousin brought them to me as a recommendation. Thank god for him!
After that there was no other way in purchasing the tankoubons other than from when one of my family members or myself went to japan. (Well I could purchase them from kinokuniya at a hefty price which I could no way near afford
) I then discovered arlong park forums 5 odd years ago and started reading the raw scans online and various spoilers from then.
-
Damn, these two niggas come in and just stomp the rest of us.
-
I think this is about 14 years ago now… the first 10 volumes (
But One Piece started in 1997.:wassat: 14 years ago there were already 10 volume?
-
I am waiting for someone who will say he read Wanted in 1992 and was so impressed by Oda's talent he decided to follow the guy and start reading One Piece in August 1997 with the first chapter of the serie.
-
I actually started with the beginning XD
Right when the first Ameri-Jump was released. After graduating high school, I wasnt able to read jump any more (my friend who used to buy it/let me read it moved away and I was too poor to buy it weekly) so I found mangavolume, and then eventually OneManga.
Now I read on mangareader.net :V -
@Sea:
But One Piece started in 1997.:wassat: 14 years ago there were already 10 volume?
sorry was a typo XD it was actually 11 years ago.
-
I am waiting for the day when someone makes a detailed story of AP's history. I'd be very interested to know more about the Usopp Wars, Phenom, the Humour thread etc.
National Coronation Day is great, but I really feel I'm missing out when I don't know the real stuff.
-
Usopp arc, dun remember chapter. IT was awesome back then, now… yeah, damn.
-
You started reading when it was in Usopp's arc?
That's impressive, that was about 10 years ago -
i remember when i started watching one piece the newest subtitled ep. was 262 and when i started paying attention to the manga it was around 413/414
-
It was a December.. 2006, during the end of year break of Shonen Jump, after "Naked But Great", but Before "Duel on Banaro Island". When was exactly the clifhanger? Oh, I remember that (the chapter that I started) was before the chapter that Sunny got named but after the whole "Two hands, GRAB" incident. And before Ussop got back.
It happened to find the spanish 4kids dub of One Piece during the Arlong Park Arc, most of the puns don't work in spanish and it was less stupid as a result, it was the fight between Sanji and Kurobi made me realize that It must be a great manga, to show potential after being mangled into THAT. I knew something about the crew already, that and Robin's powers that made me want to read the manga whole.
Stupid story: I thought that Sanji and Shanks were the same person, I'm not realy colorblind but sometimes I forget the colors, and shape, and clothes, and face, and eyebrows of people. And I only had seen shanks on the opening.
-
You started reading when it was in Usopp's arc?
That's impressive, that was about 10 years agoAnd he's never made one good, literate, post in the whole time.
-
i remember reading one piece on some msn forum. the chapter was some citizen in water 7 claiming iceberg as the new president or something.
-
the start of thriller bark. coz i read in the anime comments that what i was watching was a filler arc. lol!
