      The Ad from jump.

      !

Starting November, the One Piece movies will be released on Blu-ray in Japan.

I really hope they do the TV series as well, if they make 10-15 episodes per disc then I'll buy them, even if there is no subs.

      Edit: Here's the breakdown:

      Movie 1 - 2009年11月21日

      Movie 2 - 2009年11月21日

      Movie 3 - 2009年11月21日

      Movie 4 - 2009年12月11日

      Movie 5 - 2009年12月11日

      Movie 6 - 2009年12月11日

      Movie 7 - 2010年01月21日

      Movie 8 - 2010年01月21日

      Movie 9 - 2010年01月21日

Are they going to be subbed or just plain raw?

The irony of common sense is…

        Hidden:

the fact that its so goddamn rare…

Nice. There a magazine ad to go with this news or something?

I would think that since they're being released in Japan there won't be subs.

The only reason I see Toei holding out though is that each one will be about $50. (Wasn't movie 1 only like 50 minutes?)

So of fear of the dreaded reverse-importation, they may old out for a bit until they sell some products.

I still find it amusing at how they are all the same price. Movie 1 (50 mins) costs the same as Movie 9 (113 mins).

I am so tempted though to import movie 6 like the little impatient bastard that I am.

So? All movies in the US come out at the same starting price. It's only a couple years down the line when people realize that some of them really suck that they end up in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart . . . or when they just aren't as popular.

Oh, and you guys did know that Movie 8 is already out on Blu-Ray through Funimation, right? That's the format I've got. It was actually cheaper than the DVD on Amazon–$13.95 compared to $24.99. 😆 Only problem is that I can't make screencaps, since my computer doesn't play Blu-Rays.

As soon as I saw that, though, I started wondering if Funi would eventually start releasing One Piece TV in Blu-Ray. Probably. If the VHS->DVD era is any indication, DVDs will eventually become relics. So, I'm going to have to start buying the series over again. Having half of it in DVD format and half in Blu-Ray would just make me twitch too much. 💫

I have movie 8 on Blu-ray as well. It looked fantastic (video quality, not art).

                            I can make screencaps though.
(I actually ran it through a process to grab every i-frame. So I have a folder that is 6030 screencaptures [about 9.08 gigs]. I only ran the main movie though, so no english credits or anything [but who cares about that?].)

I know it's not directly related, but I hope this might mean Funimation might be getting ready to release the movies here. Damn, 4, 6, and 9 would look STUNNING on Blu-Ray

It's nice because Blue-rays, unlike DVDs, have much larger region coding zones. the coding for Japan is the same for North and South America and a few other areas.
Not Europe though, but I suppose they're used to being screwed.

I have to play all Blu-Rays on my sister's PS3. I wonder if it's capable of screencapping?

The only reason English credits would interest me is that I'm always curious how they're going to translate the various director titles. Of course, for that to be useful, I'd have to see the original credits too, huh? I doubt the movie has those. I can't remember off the top of my head.

I don't think you can on the PS3. I used my laptop, AnyDVD HD and mplayer. The movie does have the original credits during the ending song.

BTW, I think if we want this, we just have to show FUNi there is a demand.

Anywho, I just remembered, wasn't movie 1 cel animated? (I think that and the OVA were.)
I wonder if there will be any remastering or anything. The film's color was always a bit dark. Actually, if I remember, I don't think movies 1-5 looked all that spectacular on DVD color-wise.

Yep. I've seen cels from both productions, and the first movie has a segment at the end about the making that shows them painting cels. Or at least, the HK bootleg does. 😁

Movie 5 had some amazing color to it. As flimsy as the plot was, the backgrounds were just incredible. The lush jungles and the eerie night sky toward the end of the movie would look spectacular on Blu-Ray.

The steep price for the first three movies is messed up. Aren't they only like 45 minutes or something. Maybe Funi at least will have some kind of triple feature disc or something.

The link in the first post says:
                                            Movie 1 - 50 mins
Movie 2 - 60 mins (though it also has the short… unless it includes that time)
                                            Movie 3 - 61 mins

If they come here as singles, I will be fine. Amazon.com or RightStuf will even it out with time. (Amazon.com has the movie 8 blu-ray for $14.)

As for movie 5, I haven't seen it in a while. I thought the colors looked a little flushed, though I may be wrong. Movies 1-4 though were dark, especially movie 1's color.

Well I'm not touting myself as an expert. The music and the backgrounds really stuck out for me whenever I see Movie 5.

Nice! Well maybe as a result of this (and this is a long shot), Funimation will do what Disney did with titles like Sleeping Beauty, and ship the Blu Ray discs with the DVDs of the dubbed movies.

well i would be excited if Blu Ray had kept the same regions as the dvd T.T
since im in the UK. so im hoping they will be atleast region free. I'm not fussed about subs since watch movies so many times i know what there probably saying.

I would buy the funi blu rays but there region locked. and i only have a ps3 so cant unlock it like i did my my tv/dvd player 😧

if there region locked i can wait until funi release them on dvd.
