Forum Downtime

Today, September 3, 2009, the forum was down for a few hours. I finally managed to get a hold of jonas to fix things up and everything should be working perfectly fine now. There was a scare of corrupt database (which means the forum got wiped), but apparently it was a false alarm. We are now backing up the forum on a daily basis in case anything horrifying like that happens.

Let me know if some parts of the forums still can't be accessed. Unless those are the parts you're not supposed to be able to access to begin with because you somehow managed to get yourself banned from that particular section. =)

when I couldn't get in before I tried the main site and it kept coming up as "Coming soon" I was like wtf?

when I look at the link at the top in the scroll bar it still mentions the error but I'm glad to know things are ok! I haven't noticed anything out of the normal but then again I hardly go anywhere outside the art threads, the spoiler threads, and the collectables thread and they're all doing find x3

I always wondered why spoiler thread bans were supposed to be a harsh punishment.

Though the people that complained they could no longer read spoilers after being banned was always rather funny.

Why the hell the spoil section should be menber only… in my opinion thats shame, a lot of people check this site to monday until wednesday without be a menber of this forum. In fact, i think that the real reason to this change is to get more and more menbers, indeed, there are more than 1000 guests who check the forum last weeks because of the epic chapters, only for read the spoils.

It's because "people" leak spoilers. We have strict rules on leaking spoilers, with the consequence being no access to our spoiler thread (among other things). If you leak a spoiler and consequently get spoiler banned, what does it matter if all you have to do is log out to view the spoilers once more? If anything, this will force more lurkers to actually create an account here, which is one more step towards actually posting and contributing to the forum. Spoilers are available all over the web, but we are typically one of the first to have them up and translated, and almost never post spoilers that are not confirmed by a reliable source. If you* don't want to create an account here to view spoilers, go somewhere else. If you* don't like getting spoiler banned, don't leak spoilers. Pretty simple, if you ask me…

I think the flaw in the plan might be that, right now all the lurkers know there are spoilers here and there's no better place to grab them, but those who enter One Piece fandom after the area has been shut down for public, don't even consider joining. They have no clue what they are missing. Maybe this doesn't bring more members to the forum after all and Arlong Park is loosing it's biggest advertising machine.

honestly, we really have no need to advertise this forum. people are free to come to this forum and register to see spoiler, or if they're too lazy to do that, they can go to mangahelpers and read the spoilers there. we could really care less. we're not trying to compete with anyone for anything, really.

no idea why it happened, and i don't think it's normal to have corrupt database. what he said was that the database server somehow kept restarting itself and when people post during the restart, things get messed up. i'm not an expert at forum databases or server, so i might have missed some bits.

jonas was surprised too to see some library that's supposed to be there went missing. he reinstalled them and then noticed some other weird stuff that was broken. but he got everything repaired and running pretty fast for the forum, so let's all give our thanks to jonas! =)

Well I just sit here for 10 hours per day refreshing and replying so I refreshed this one time and got an error. I stared at the computer for 5 minutes and slowly crawled into a corner and cried myself to sleep :cwy: . Then later it was back up :happy: .

Yeah, my browser is one of 3 programs that opens and it loads 5 different websites that I frequently use. If you think something as dull and simple as that is crazy, then I'd hate to tell you about some of the networking things I've done for fun.
