Which Devil Fruits do you think could've been better used?

Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple DFs with incredible potentials that were wasted on mediocre/scrub-leveled characters.

Mr. 5's Bomb-Bomb fruit, just to name an obvious one.

Some can argue that if Buggy's fruit were in the hands of a swordsman, it would be extremely overpowered.

The Noro-Noro and the Horo-Horo are hard ones to argue, as the Noro-Noro beam itself is actually rather slow (and dodgeable), while the Horo-Horo… I guess it's far too overpowered assuming that you're not fighting Usopp (even when Perona was using it)

Special Add On Question: Choose a fruit, and say how you would use it if you were the user (use of weapons, etc etc)

The Door fruit was pretty good, so was the weight one, major potential. But hey, you win some and you lose some.

Someone on this site once drempt that Ms. Valentine learned from an old man how to make only parts of her body change weight, so she could punch or kick really fast with light-as-feather limbs and make them extremely heavy upon contact with the enemy.

Bellamy could have spring-loaded his punches, kicks, and headbuts; but no, all he does is jump around.

Foxy should have built an entire mirror maze instead of just one wall, then he could shoot into the room from outside.

If that's the case, all CP9 really had to do to assassinate people was to have Blueno get everyone in the dimension, and all travel to the location of the target. Blueno then opens a door, pulls the target in, and all of CP9 attacks. I don't think many people can survive that Or he could get an Admiral in there and it would be the ultimate combo.

After seeing Whitebeard's fruit used like he was some sort of god (not saying he isn't :P), I thought that if Mr. 5 was as badass, maybe his explosions could have the same sort of power… imagine if he could do explosions like the bomb Pell took into the sky - over and over again

Aw yeah… great idea there, never thought about that one. But if he could make contact with the opponent's chest, why not just shigan? Digging the heart out is not as efficient as putting an air bullet into it

Bellamy's. His is just absolutely nothing but wasted potential. Mr. 5 comes in a close second.

granted I agree that Mr. 5 could have done more with his devil fruit per say. He did do a couple interesting things that were potentially devastating. But I don't think his DF failure was entirely his fault.

Mr. 5 was royally screwed over by the physics of the series itself.

Remember in Family Guy, when the Griffin's gained super powers? Yeah, well if Baroque Works was the Griffins then Mr. 5 would be Meg. Totally screwed with a lame nail growing power.

An explosion in One Piece ranks lower in damage than most of the punches thrown. Some of Luffy's weaker attacks outclass things blowing up by a mile. With the exception of deadly things like the Buster Call of course, if I had a dollar for everytime someone in this series survived an explosion (and in decent condition as well)…

I will agree that Mr. 5 could have stood to train his fruit a little better, and maybe if the power had been given to a more important character, it would have been more devistating

...but if repeated explosive attacks against a downed Luffy and Usopp aren't gonna cut it... then lenny kravitz better get a new agent, cause Mr. 5 is one shitty assassin.

There's a multi page thread about this on One manga forums lol. I remember when I use to post in there.

Bomb fruit, mass/weight fruit. A couple others. Any fruit where the character ended up being fodder or easily defeated was wasted to me.

After what Croc and then Luffy showed us about mastering and using your DF ability in so many ways if the person isn't showing a lot with it they definitely could've been used better.

Baku Baku. Wapol could potentially shapeshift into anything. He could eat every animal and pass as a multi-zoan type or eat a ton of corpses(as disgusting as that may be…) to make his own zombie army for example. His canons were a good idea but he could have definitely done so much more.

Bellamy, Bellamy, Bellamy. In fact, so much so, I'm bothering to make an entire webcomic about the potential usage of being able to use one's body as a giant spring eventually.

I almost wanted to say Mr. 3's, but he's back so maybe he'll use it a little more.

Also Buggy. Splitting into smaller fragments could help him ambush someone better.

Someone mentioned Robin already, but I second it. Most creative thing she's done with it is the hand angel wings.

Yeah definately if you put the bomb fruit, weight fruit or robin's fruit in the hands of someone with fighting ability, they can be devastating. But I'm even more impressed with mr.3's wax fruit or the horo horo no mi. Creating infinite amounts of wax which can be any shape and can instantly turn harder than steel? Think flooding everyone completely in wash, or sending out seas of wax spikes. Brutal.

But the opposite is kinda funny too. What if you put the top tier fruits in the hands of some randoms:

Mr 6: the paw paw fruit. He repels a few of Luffy's attacks, creates a shockwave which luffy dodges. He also teleports to dodge an attack. Then Luffy gets serious and speeds up and knocks him out.
Mr 7: the quake fruit. He creates a crevasse which Franky has to jump away from, then tries to drop some boulders on Franky's head, then does some rankyaku-like shockwave attacks which Franky has to dodge. Then he gets knocked out.
Mr 8: mythical zoan model phoenix. He turns into a phoenix and starts doing fly-by slashing beak attacks on zoro. Zoro tries to cut him, but all his slashes are instantly regenerated. Finally Zoro is covered in blood and almost dead (we know he doesn't get serious until he is all messed up) and on the final swoop attack, he flips his blades 90° and knocks him unconscious.
Mr 9: the darkness fruit. Wow a logia! He starts off sucking in items and shooting them out of the darkness, which Sanji has to dodge. Sanji tries to attack but he conjures up darkness and sanji has to jump away from it, trying to not get sucked in. Then he starts boasting how he can suck away DF powers. Sanji is unimpressed since he doesn't have any. When he starts to prepare his final darkness attack, Sanji kicks a rock at his head, and this knocks him the hell out because he actually takes EXTRA damage because of his fruit!
Mr 10: the poison fruit. He relentlessly shoots poison at Usopp. First Usopp takes some minor hits which injure him, and then starts to dodge all the poison attacks. Finally he does a fake-out where he has a manekin covered in poison, which looks like him. And from a safe location he shoots his opponent down!

the heat heat fruit (Oda was still the one who designed that Don Acchino jerk, as much as i hate that character)

its like a paramecia version of Ace's df.. in my opinion, it should have gone to a new world captain that Oda is gonna show off in this war (current events in manga)

I dunno. I found Mr.5's role with his fruit appropriate. It did not need a huge epic one on one battle or anything, it was just cool. His time in Wiskey Peak and Little Garden was pretty epic, minus the whole self destruction attempt.

It's not that the character could've been better used, the DF could've.

Give his DF to a better character or a villain for that matter then you could see how much better it would be.

Of course the beauty of One Piece is that some of these characters could definitely appear again in the manga, possibly having trained their devil fruits. I mean who would've thought Mr. 1 and 2 would've returned?

I always wanted to see Alvidas fruit expanded on. I mean having all attacks just slide of you is pretty damn great but what's the next step. What's the gear second of the sube sube fruit? Guess even Oda couldnt figure that out and that's why Alvida got canned.

Wouldnt be suprised if they're out of the picture and that was Oda's way of sending them of. I mean as much as i like Mohji and Richie our beloved clown really is going to need a better crew if he is to head back into the new world again.

Really, all she did was get hit by a broken water fountain and then slide through the rainy town on her feet. Even named fodder Marines have displayed more exciting uses of their Devil Fruits.

I would choose Buggy's fruit.

I'd separate an eye and a hand to hide in the shadows and use a sniper with them. I'd then fly around the opponent while separated to obstruct their sight, then snipe away.

Well I think only reason Mr.5 was made fodder because "bomb" is overused in many mangas so oda decided to make him fodder.

I think Buggy's fruit has the most potential similar to Luffy's. He can basically be the ultimate assassin without getting hurt if he masters unassembling and such. Plus, if he becomes stronger in the physical term, he could be deadly.

I also think that Lion Guy from Thriller Bark arc's invisible devil fruit was wasted…. Such a sick fruit and he got raped by Sanji.

Kind of dark but i like the idea. But that raises the question of how that would work, does the fruit just pop out of the guy after you kill him or does it just simply grow back at wherever the heck devil fruits grow? And if they do, do they all grow at the same place and there is some crew controlling that particular area and growing rich by selling of devil fruits? The second idea would probably make for a good story arc.

Where ever did you get the idea that i wanted to have Alvida return, in that very post i said we probably will never be seeing her again.

All i really said was that i think Oda never could figure out anything else fun to do with her power and just scrapped her altogther. Dont see how that can be proven wrong in anyway short of Oda dropping by and informing us otherwise.

I disagree with you about this. Oda has shown that he loves those characters too much to let them slip into oblivion. I get the feeling that the crew will just be beefed up around them.

If you want a 2nd stage to Alvida's fruit, how about the ability to project slipperyness remotely? Maybe she could learn to make it so that people can't stand up or hold onto their weapons.

That's actualy a really great idea, but i'll need you to explain how it works in Oda logic before i can really take it to heart

No need… the fruit is crazy enough as it is. Against non-elementals, sharp and blunt can't hurt her. Isn't that hax enough as it is?
