Too bad both it and Tri G are on a garbage system I will never buy. Major letdown - they should have done both of them on the Wii U, PS3, 360, or Vita. Really, anything but the 3DS. I hope the Wii U gets them eventually.
I'm hoping that we either get a P3rdG for Vita or they'll bring an English-language version of P3rd HD for PS3. Christian Svensson stated that North America will not be getting the PSP version, but the door is not closed on the PS3 version. There's been no official announcement of P3rdG yet, but Capcom has hinted at it: "one of the five Vita games we are currently developing is a new entry in a series that's very popular in Japan."

I really don't know what's going on. First, Nintendo surprisingly gets Tri G and MH4, thus making the PSV look really lonely. Then, they arbitrarily decide that you NEED to be able to use a second stick to play MH, and make an add-on bundle. This does nothing but create a shitstorm online. But THEN, they announce that Tri G won't have any wifi!
I think Nintendo really had an opportunity to take a lot of sales away from Sony here, but completely missed the point. Random attachment? No wifi? Actually, some of that's Capcom's fault, isn't it. It's like the two companies most famous for making pointless, horrible decisions decided to team up and run MH into the ground.

Man I hope we see both 4 and Freedom 3 somehow. I know Tri sold well enough over here, so I doubt Capcom is worried it won't do well fiscally.

My guess is that Capcom knew well in advance that the PSP (which is weak outside of Japan) would be near-dead by the time they would be able to localize MHF3. I think chances are okay that we'll see official English-language versions of MHF3 on the PS3 and/or the G version of MHF3 on the PS Vita.
This is what makes me suspicious: Monster Hunter avatars appear today on the PSN.

So to anyone with a Wii U and/or 3DS the demo to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is up.
Playing it on my 3DS was definitely a nostalgic feeling. Namely, how much I did not miss having to constantly hit the L button to center the camera like I absolutely had to do in Freedom Unite lol. I need a Circle Pad Pro.

played the Demo on the Wii U for like 3 minutes or so. Dunno why but everything felt so slow and clunky. Perhaps it was just my imagination or not really knowing what I was supposed to be doing lol.

The way I understand it, Monster Hunter is supposed to be slow and clunky by design. Every action has a "cast time" so that it has to be used smartly. It's meant to be driven as much by tactics as it is by action.
The Wii U demo I played could really use some sort of tutorial, though. There are so many items they give you and there seem to be a lot of things to consider, yet they drop you into a hunt with a strict time limit and don't even bother telling you what the buttons do. It seems like a really fun game with a really steep learning curve. But I was so driven to complete my objective within the time limit that I didn't bother learning anything but the basic controls of attack and drink potion, in order to save time. I think it's probably easier to learn how to play through a wiki or something. Yet even the easy hunt with nothing but the absolute basics made for what seemed like a real, worthwhile hunt. I feel like I'd really like the full version of the game if I got deeply into it and learned all the angles.

Monster hunter is almost out, 3 more days for US, 6 for EU i believe. I bought a Wii U just for this game. Some may say it's a waste, to them i say when you clocked in over 3000hrs on MHFU, i don't believe its a waste when i plan to play this game that much if not more.

I played the demo, and went with Broadsword first, and hated it so intensely I almost didn't bother with any other weapons.
but I'm glad I did, because the longsword, sword-n-shield, spear, and double swords were all really fun. I enjoyed just playing around with the combo system, but that damn rabbit barely stayed still long enough to do much more than a few hits at a time, haha.
I'll see if my friends are interested, because if I can get a group of hunters together this game looks like major good times, as opposed to only okay alone.

The MH series is sorta decent alone, Tri in particular really did better than the previous installments of making solo questing as fun (and surviable) as possible, but these games are absolutely meant to be played with others, no two ways about it.
My Internet is a little shakey for my Wii U at my campus but once things get stable (whether that be my connection getting better or me just moving back home for the summer) I'd love to host some games with you folks.

The biggest word of advice I can give for playing multiplayer is to keep in mind that some weapons are just not player-friendly. I don't mean that they do damage to the other players, that doesn't happen, but some weapons like Great Swords, Long Swords, Switch-Axes, Hammers, etc that have a long/wide range and/or splash damage can knock other players out of their combos and flying backwards, which is one thing you definitely don't want happening when a two story tall dragon is around.
So being conscious of other players is definitely something to keep in mind.

To be fair all weapons can knock allies out of combos, I've been sent flying by a Sword and Shield courtesy of Jay. I think the most important thing to know going in for the first time is that combat is meant to be slow, it's kinda like a fighting game in the sense that you should abuse the monsters lag frames, while being mindful of your own. The dodge button is your best friend, I'm surprised my "X" button on my PSP still works after the amount of time I put into MH:Unite.

I've played MH before, just never online. Always meant to get around to it once I had single player down, but just never seemed to manage it

Tri was really fine for the most part when it came to solo. I didn't make it very far, but that's only because I was playing it on Dolphin and I stopped because I really wanted to buy it. It should be coming in a few days now. I'm looking forward to playing with a couple of friends. I might expand the party, but it all really depends.

I wish I had a Wii U for Monster Hunter 3U.
I picked up Tri quite a few times to play with friends. It's just great. Every single time I went to play it, though, I'd get shoved off eventually pretty fast because there would always be five people at one time who wanted to play. And honk, I'm the weakest link because I'm slightly busier, or not as quick to get on, and then eventually they got too skilled to play with someone who hadn't had as much experience as them so WOOPS FOREVER.
I really loved it and had a ton of fun before I was never allowed to play with them again though.
I never got past the water dragon, really, and some of the exclusive online multiplayer monsters.
And I bet MH3U would be the same thing, so I'm not gonna force a Wii U into my life just for it…

I was the same Beast. Didn't get past the water dragon, but that was mainly because I played with random people online and kinda felt like a spare part in that I couldn't do much while they were all doing great.
I have this one on order but no idea if I'll keep it or not. Might pick it up and keep it till April when the Wii U titles go quieter again

There was an announcement of some sort of patch too. Because apparently you can't play with people from other territories (ex Europe with America) atm either.
3DS I think they said can only be played online if you go through the Wii U or some garbage.

Also, ranking up on the village quests is really easy. I haven't even upgraded my weapon or armor, and already got to 3 star. Id be higher but I spent some time gathering resource to increase my farm and just to have on reserve for when I eventually need it.

Started on mine today. Its fun thus far. Went with Dual Blades since I don't have patience for the slow weapons. Last time I think I just got to the second place to hunt which I don't think is much further.
Main problem with the game is the text. Any reason why its all in the bottom left corner of the screen and also tiny? Even on a 42 inch screen like mine it's hard to read it.

I just got this. The "play on gamepad" and international cross-region online convinced me finally.
Really pumped, not sure what to use first. I'm kind of a Switch Axe/Long Swords person but I'm gonna try all the new stuff I haven't seen before like Hunting Horn and Bow and stuff…
So many options.
Once my Wii U is done updating I'll have to throw in username stuff.

So after a couple hundred hours of playing, I just came up with a totally not unique idea. I want fist weapons. I know a lot of people are against it, I google searched. But I am still for the idea. I imagine SnS type speed with impact dmg. Many say if you want to punch a monster use the gesture, but i want flashy combos not the right left duck animation with the gesture. And although i say fist weapons feel kicks should be involved too. SO the weapon would appear as fists and leg guards.
As for attacks, i was thinking the running unsheath could be a flying kick, or just a superman punch. Unsheathing just puts you in a fighting stance. Now combos i think should be interchangeable like how SnS or DS do it. Maybe make y punches and a kicks. And both together can be an upward launch that is based on the previous button pressed. If it's a punch a jumping uppercut could work, if it's a kick the it'll be a crescent moon kick. Both should be able to reach the height of the longsword vertical slash. If nothing was pressed it'll be a forward lunging attack similar to the running unsheath. A 10-hit combo should be it's min, with the last hit dealing bonus damage. It will likely be the fastest but weakest raw power weapon, with high element/status. Rolls can be used at any point during a combo, but not during finishing move, or the a+y attack. As for block, i was thinking either a normal run, or have a meter that charges and powers you up.
That's as far as i've thought, from some of the posts i've read online the idea of spring loaded fists, of rocket powered atks seemed interesting, but the biggest argument the weapons they have give you leverage, or you're attack distance is zero. Can't argue the former to much, but the the latter isn't much of a problem, since most of the time using SnS i'm right up on the monster, seeing my hand go through it's body.

Yes and no. There is a fair amount of grinding involved if you want ~the best weapons/armor~ but it's not really as bad as some people make it out to be.
The main appeal, aside from it having really awesome multiplayer and difficulty almost entirely based around skill, is the scale of things. Spending a minimum of 10+ minutes (at least initially) with some other guys taking down a monsters that are a couple of stories tall and then realizing they only get even bigger and the fights more elaborate from there.
The series is pretty niche and it definitely isn't for everyone but I'd recommend giving it a shot. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a great start.

You can have Monster Hunster 3 Ultimate also on the 3DS. I can only speak for the handheldversion, but I think its a good way to get started, since in my opinion, its a lot easyer then the "older" games… Well, atleast it took "nothing" to finish the "story" and get to the higher rank quests...
About MH4:
Did it only look like it, or did the monsters in the end (the shark and the dragon or so) "evolve"? Looked like the shark got suddenly an "ice-arrow" on his nose O,o
