My point was that Zoro acted like a dick about it. He basically threw his version of a temper tantrum. Whoever drew that Ace whining fanart needs to do one for Zoro whining about not staying with a captain who doesn't demand apologies.

Zoro is the defact second in command. Its his JOB to offer insight that his leader may not have thought of, to provide a second opinion when he thinks his leader is at fault. He wasn't insulting or arguing with Luffy, he was reminding him that "Hey, you're the CAPTAIN. If you're serious about this whole pirate king thing, then you have to take that responsibility seriously in a situation like this, use your head instead of your heart." He was right too, it would have set a permanent precedent for bad mojo and arguments and betrayals at crucial times.

Basically Zoro was saying, "If you aren't a captain about this, they you aren't going to be pirate king. In which case, you're violating our original agreement from chapter 9, and you're never going to go as far as you should, and I'm wasting my time with you and you're getting in the way of my ambition."

It wasn't Zoro bitching about his opinion, it was him saying, in just a few words, that Captain and Friend are two different things, and Luffy needed to be the Captain right then. And then, EVERYONE else agreed with him. (Well, except Chopper.) Zoro was right, and it was his JOB as #2 to say exactly that.

shinpanman- VERY COOL. I am envious of talent. And amused by the … runaway winner. all is as it possibly should be maybe.

Also, I think what will stick with ALL of us more than anything else about this tournament... is BANCHI. Did ANY of us know that 2 panel silent Turtle's name before this thing started? (aside from the one that nominated him?) Now I think, we shall never forget, and always look upon him fondly when revisiting the Burouque Works saga.

Shmeckie- I had a lot of fun arguing with you in this thing. We in general do legitimatley disagree about a lot of stuff, but I had a lot of fun playing against you in an exagerated way. The Moria/Aphelandra match is still my favorite out of this whole thing, (being an evil overlod for hours might have had something to do with that) and your rampant insulting and corss examinations were a consistent fun part of that.

Usopp left the crew, thats a big thing to walk away from especially for such selfish immature reasons. That was the biggest betrayal to the Nakama motto yet not Zoro reminding luffy of his duty as a captain and their place as the crew. They're not playing pirates however much that seems to people like you.

A bit of a sidetrack: but I always find it strange when people use adherence of protocol and regiment as primary arguments involving the SHs. Unlike someone like Don Krieg, the SHs have gotten as far as they have by bumbling through the Grand Line, making mistakes, doing everything the wrong way. That's what makes them who they are, they're not a conventional crew. That said, once again, I'm not saying Usopp shouldn't have apologized. He should have.

But it doesn't change the fact that: Zoro threw a tantrum; Zoro threatened the captain; Zoro's harsh rhetoric ignored the fact that Usopp's sticking up for a ship that he saw as part of the crew (truly a devious betrayal) ultimately saved them; the terms he demanded made way for what could be seen as an empty apology.

Wow, now you're dismissing the Luffy/Usopp fight as a run-of-the-mill spat. And the ship that saved their lives as a 'petty reason'.

Anyway, feel free to disagree. My point apparently wasn't made clear before, so I just wanted to get it out there.

Providing a second opinion is fine. He outright threatened to leave the crew over the captain's actions towards a fellow crewmate (sounds familiar.) What a dick. And yet, despite all that happened - let's say Sanji's hands were cut off and one of the others refused to leave him behind, I get the feeling we'd see such a 'betrayal' again. .

Overall fun tournament. And good job to all the mods that made it possible. Those random, wacky and intense matches are what really made everything worthwhile.

Well, it certainly was a fun (and long) tournament. I kinda wish I could've been more involved in it, but I'm proud to say I voted in (I think) every single poll. There were quite a few surprises along the way (I'm still pissed that Sanji lost to Buggy) and it was certainly a very enjoyable experience. Here's hoping we can do it again next year.

I just want to say, this whole tournament was really great and a lot of fun!
There were some great ideas by the staff to make it more variable.
And we got a winner who deserves the title (Since he's the main character, he should win this at least once …).

I hope we will have another tournament in 2 years or so, since i find a tournament next year too early (Would be more fun with more new characters and storylines).

Of course he will be allowed to defend the title. I never understood the logic of excluding the champion from the next tournament. Does the winner of the Super Bowl or the NBA champ forbidden to defend their titles next season?

Exactly. Teams want to knock off the defending champion, it comes with being #1. It would lessen the next tournament if the characters (especially the ones Luffy beat) couldn't have a chance at knocking off the defending champion.

One year is roughly 45 - 50 manga chapters. In a story like One Piece that's enough space for a lot to happen to drastically change the look on about a dozen characters more or less. For instance if the crew will be back together in a year Luffy might not have it as easy as he had it this year.

Another reason why annual tournaments are better is because it enhances the chances for the non-Strawhats to win. For instance if year after year the Strawhats win then perhaps even their strongest supporters would move for a change. But if a tournament is hold every second or third year then voters tend to rather keep their precious votes.

Of course that's just our take on things and I appreciate your feedback. But we'll still stick around with the annual thing. If you don't have too much of a problem with it I invite you to join next year again. If not then feel free to join in two years.

Precisely. And if you ask me, not having Usopp (the first champion) in the last (the second) tournament was something that always left a bitter taste for the tournament for me. Thank god the organizers at least ditched the idea that the previous champion took it out with the new champion because that would have just influenced the votes too much. Better have it as it is done in most sports. Luffy will be qualified as the champion. It's up to the members here whether he defends his title or not.

I had a lot of fun during this tournament. Made AP a really fun place during the summer. I joined in 2005, and unfortunately missed out on the tournament of that year, so I was glad to be a part of this year's. It was even more fun to make some videos and drawings contributing to the tournament, and I hope to do it again next year.
