easy there karl marx, we're talking about disney here, not an old russian factory from the 1870s.
I think there's enough blame here to spread both to dumb fans and greedy corporations

Nope, I'm right. Corporations do as they please first-and-foremost to maximize profit—which is mostly kept by those at the top—rather than be moral and ethical.
If we don't expect better we're never going to get better. There's no reason for the discussion to give concessessions to the vastly more powerful party right from the start.
Nah, you're wrong (all these bold declarations about opinions are fun!)
I think we can and should pretty safely ask both the corporations and consumers to be better. I know how dumb and fickle modern fans can be - I am one.
It's not black and white, nothing is.
So I watched Andor on the weekend. I'm on @Nobodyman 's boat.
It's a very well done series, with a strong script, and good acting (in SW nonetheless), but I didn't see something of the immense hype the series was getting.
Andor - as character - was a bit flat, but I guess the point at this moment was that he was flat before joining the rebellion.
He's a fill in for the watcher to understand how an autorotation regime can fuck anyone's life to the point the options are death or armed insurrection. Necropolitics at it's finest. Wonder if somebody on the writing team read Achille Mbembe.
Don't know exactly the point of keeping following Karn's character after his first interrogation with Dedra. Unless they want her to personally recruit him. Was his point to highlight how one's person careerism may lead to a person handwaving fascism?
I figured that Syril Karn was a parable for the way that being dedicated to systems and buying into 'order' led 'normal' men to fascism? Syril's a blankslate because of his upbringing and he lets others paint him their colors so as to achieve peace of mind, which he believes is his reward. There's some 'meritocracy' built into his character, I think, and that's going to be what leads to his fanatacism. I mean, hell, he's already pathetically following a fascist woman around like a puppy. He's desperate for the system he was raised to worship to recognize him.

Yeah, could be. But if it was that it could be written a lot better. From the first moments of his you can see that his a man who would do anything and step on anyone to receive systemic validation/promotions.
This narcissistic dog eat dog mentality isn't exactly what call "normal" man.
Anyway it's kinda sad that capitalism feels so safe that corporations sell revolution as entertainment. And say as long it's only that.
Wink Wink Nudge Nudge nothing to extrapolate to real life or read parallels/analogies.
Yeah, it's definitely not perfect and the fact the Disney executives don't seem to think that the series will inspire anything is pretty nasty to think about.

I think Karn and several characters are getting setup for season 2 to really shine. And by shine I mean huge character develpment then dying. Other than Andor and Mon, I don't see most of the cast making it out of the show alive.
Finished Rebels! Garbled thoughts:
Really enjoyed the series overall.
Liked season 2 the best
Thought the inquisitors were solid villains.
Thrawn was a great villain too.
Season 3 was my least favorite probably bc it felt the most episodic (I realize the entire series is episodic, but this season...felt especially so). It also just felt the most inconsistent.
Season 4: bittersweet but pretty solid ending. Loved the loth wolves. When did kanan and hera have time to do...that???
I really liked the mystical aspects of the show involving the force (including the dark side!)
I think there's plans to explore the rebels a bit in the live action series, but instead of that I'd rather just have a follow up season in the cartoon style instead. Wishful thinking probably.
Still wish Grogu had been written out of the show after season 2, but I guess he's just too marketable to let go.
I'm not sure I have really gleaned any story information from that trailer. I guess...Mando and Grogu try to join the other Mandalorians but are rejected? Okay?
So I've finally gotten around to watching the Clone Wars show. And yes, that did include ripping off the bandaid that was the infamous Clone Wars "movie".
Yeah, that definitely wasn't the best way to start the series. Four episodes combined into a movie and probably the dumbest plotline of the whole season. Still, not outright terrible I suppose.
Anyway, I finished up season 1 and, sorry to say, but I don't think the rest of the season is that big an improvement. Again, not terrible, but mostly just passable action fluff for kids. It does have its moments and does delve into some war philosophy stuff that I think is good to help start kids thinking about. The best episodes of the season for me though were episodes 9 and 10 where I think I started to see glimpses of how great this show could be.
So yeah, not overly impressed so far, but from what I've heard the show does take a while to get going and doesn't hit its stride until maybe around season 3. I'll keep watching and hope the really good stuff gets here soon.
@Nobodyman
There will be a lot of ups and downs...I think there are some fantastic episodes and story arcs that are interspersed between some less than great ones. That's what happens when there are like 25 episodes per season. The last couple are shorter, concise arcs with no filler.
Overall, it's a very good series but it's not perfect. It's easier to appreciate once you've got the full scope of the character development and story elements it covers.
Bad Batch reminds me of Rebels but without the charm. The series taking place during the Empire's hayday and the clone plots are saving it from me just giving up.
First episode of the new season of Mandalorian was okay. Mostly a setup episode. A shame they brought back Grogu so fast. Could've been some interesting storytelling with him and Mando going down seprate paths for longer. Could be a sign the show isn't really about taking chances and all about getting ratings. Oh, well, at least we saw space whales. More forshadowing for Ezra's return.
@QueenTangerine3
I thought Hera said they're kiss on the show was their first, but she had a kid? That really threw me off. The show had a chance to show two characters in healthy romantic relationship and ruined it.

That scene at the end with the kid is a time skip. There's a lot of time that passes in between various episodes, obviously in a kid's show they aren't going to show that the relationship progressed further than a kiss.
Not sure what you mean by ruining a healthy relationship - I mean, obviously if your significant other dies, it does ruin the relationship.

I mean the show acknowledging they were a couple, dating, or in love throughout the series. Something other than shoving it in at the last second. That can be done without on-screen kissing (dialogue, physical cues like holding hands, etc.) even though I don't see anythilng wrong with a couple simply kissing on any show, kid or otherwise.
I guess I'm not sure what the issue is for then. There are scenes throughout the whole series that indicated there is something more to their relationship than simply being friends, but that Hera seems very hesitant to take it further. She's afraid because their future is uncertain, but then she realizes that it would be far worse if they were to lose each other without ever expressing her true feelings.
The trailer for Ahsoka is out. I can't wait for the return of Sabine and Thrawn.
I really enjoyed this recent Mando episode.
I would like a series based on a pirate and not an established or well known character. I see pirates like Mandalorians as far as an opportunity to explore values and motivation. the thief empowering the rebels was cool in Andor, but this would be different.

There's absolute bangers of episodes and there's some pretty bad, the main kick is that the season order don't actually follow the chronological order of events in the series (typical star wars stuff).
I used a watching order not much dissimilar to this:
https://www.gamesradar.com/how-to-watch-star-wars-the-clone-wars-in-order/
And on the S2 of Bad Batch. They didn't deserve it. Not like this.

So many emotions here.
I've been longing for more Rebels, yes. Seeing all these characters live action is exciting.
Thrawn is literally my favorite SW character and I've been excited by the prospect of seeing him debut as a live action character for years.
But, I'm also really worried they aren't going to write his character as faithfully as they should. He's a complicated villain. Lars is a great actor and I loved his voice acting for him in Rebels....but they also portrayed him a bit too...mustache twirly....you know what I mean? There were a couple of grossly out-of-character moments.
Also, it's not easy to put someone in blue makeup and have them not look like a guy in blue makeup
Finished up season 2 of Clone Wars. Definite improvement over the first season, though it didn't have any amazing standout episodes. Just a solid string of B, B+ and maybe a few C grade episodes.
Mace Windu is a dick, that's all.
Yeah, I know there's some important plot details that have ramifications for the rest of the series in the Geonosis arc, but it drags on way too long. There's a story arc in season 5 (I think?) that features mostly droids that other than one little plot detail, is super dull and I think I just had it on while I did other things for most of it when I re-watched the series.
What was Baylan Skoll talking about in this episode you think? He said “there fleeing something, can’t you feel it?”
After a bit of a hiatus, I finally got around to watching Season 3 of Clone Wars.
The season started off pretty good with the Clone Troopers two-parter featuring the Bad Batch who, I guess, got their own show later on. After that, unfortunately, there was a pretty long string of episodes that ranged from decent to boring, with only Assassin standing out a bit. At this point, I gotta say, I was starting to lose any enthusiasm I may have had for the show.
But then we get to the Arsaj Ventress three-parter and, oh yes, here's the really good stuff I was promised! A great dive into Ventress's history and culture as well as the introduction of a great new villain voiced by Clancy Brown no less. That said..."Savage Opress"? Seriously?
And as if that weren't enough we get another great three-parter immediately after with the Father-Son-Daughter Force planet story (I don't know what else to call it, LOL). Personally I didn't think it was quite as strong as the previous story arc and I wonder if it may have even served better as a single episode, leaving a bit of mystery behind the whole affair, but it was still good.
And then the season ends with the Citadel and Padawan Hunt stories, which are...fine. Again, just kinda in the decent range. The most interesting things about them are that they bring in Tarkin and Chewbacca.
And with that, I guess I'm almost exactly half way through the series now. In spite of the praise I've given it, I still have to say I'm not totally in love with the show. A lot of the writing still feels kind of stiff and cliched and I'm still not really sold on the animation. But this season definitely showed some samples of greatness that this show is capable and, from what I've heard, the second half of the show should deliver on that. Looking forward to it!
got around to Mando season 3:
It was...okay. the previous seasons were better imo.
fav episodes were probably 4 and 8, probably bc they were the most action oriented. Lol.
Glad grogu is finally officially adopted.
Not the biggest fan of bo katan so getting so much of her this season and din kind of taking a back seat was kind of blah. But at least it feels like her storyline has been wrapped up mostly so hopefully we move on from her.
Episode 5 (Jack Black, lizzo, Christopher Lloyd) was a fever dream I wish didn't exist. it was so bad. Took me right out of it, the only thing I liked was that baddie doc Brown was a separatist.
Don't know how to feel about the potential end of moff Gideon. Is this it for him?
Three times the charm and he actually stays dead? He's evaded death for what feels like a good half dozen times (an exaggeration, I know), so I'm skeptical. I'm ready to move on from him though.
I know it's probably bc some of the enemies have slowly gotten stronger, but sometimes I think back to season 1 and how threatening Mando and the others were in combat and then I look at him and some of the others now...they used to cut through troopers, etc. like butter and now it feels like it takes a good several hits just to bring one of them down??? I don't know. Season 3 had a lot of din falling flat on his face.
Also...was there really any point of giving din the darksaber if he ended up not doing anything with it and just gave it away anyway? Like, if he was just going to give it away again they should have just let him get rid of it at the end of season 2??? But I suppose bo katan wasn't ready to accept it yet yaddy yaddah.
Ahsoka series:
I liked it! More than Mando s3 at least.
Haven't been the biggest fan of Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka bc I find her super wooden and dull, but the Anakin vision/flashback ep did wonders bc then it felt like the character lightened up and had a bit more personality. Which was probably done on purpose now that I think of it lol. Still would like her to play ahsoka a bit livelier than she does.
Really liked baylan and shin.
The actor they cast for Ezra was fantastic imo.
Watched this with my parents- my mom is convinced they borrowed some ideas from an old corny wonderful world of Disney flick "The Island at the Top of the World (1974)" in regards to travelling into the beyond and following the whales/whale graveyard stuff.
funnily enough the film also involves a carved piece of whale bone that acts as a secret location guide they had to match up with landscape on a map, which is highly reminiscent of the dagger or whatever it was they had to align with the death star wreckage in EP 9...lol
What, are they announcing another season of Kenobi? lol
Lee Jung-jae save me
save me Lee Jung-jae
(This looks like a fun series, I'm glad to be getting a story about the Jedi Order 100 years before TPM)
The settings and sfx look good. I just hope the story is too. Andor has set such a high standard in regards to telling a good story with interesting characters, I find myself comparing every show since to it.
The Bad Batch ended and I really enjoyed the finale and the 3rd season as a whole. I like how personal this season was, they weren't trying to topple the Empire, just get their team/family back together. But, you can tell those Clones VS the Empire stories will be told in other stories one day with mostly other clones, along with any future stories with Omega. That seems to be how most of Star Wars TV work: They must establish/setup a character(s) for a future series.
All in all, i enjoyed The Bad Batch but feel it didn't have enough of a story to warrant 3 seasons. It's like they had the main story planned out from the start but most everything else was just going on a missions or fighting a monster. It felt same-y. Wished they focused more on developing the BB's personalities (individual likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc.) and specific character interactions between the cast. And they should've stopped working for Sid by the end of season one. I guess they needed her there for her to eventually betray the BB but it didn't work for me.
Why are people hating on this new show so bad, is it really this bad or an extreme overreaction

It's okay. The show has its share of unintentionally goofy moments, but otherwise it's...fine.
From what I can tell, a lot of it just seems to be review-bombing and people complaining about really stupid shit (i.e. people bitching about it being "woke")
Gee what a fucking surprise.
I got caught up with The Acolyte. It's…okay. I'm not crazy about it but I don't despise it either. Honestly, Andor was such a well-written, acted, and directed show, I find myself holding everything after to it's high standards.
I'm a bit confused about
Also, I heard a theory the Acolyte's master could be
Hating Star Wars is popular. Hate vids and podcasts get clicks and views. More and more I've noticed YouTube videos with buzzwords like "ruined my childhood" and "Star Wars is Dead" and "Woke" and "Kathleen Kennedy fired". It's the new trash tv.
Add that to every Star Wars fan having their own personal reason(s) why they like the franchise, so if it's not "their" Star Wars, they complain. Nothing wrong with that but the more popular something is, the more people will complain because you can't please everyone all of the time.
Then there are racists and misogynists who'll slam anything with People of Color and women. I'm at the point where anytime I see a thumbnail with a woman with a weird/exaggerated expression, I remove it from my suggestions. Maybe they're Star Wars fans, maybe not and are just furthering their agenda—maybe both—but they're going to complain.
