If those are the people you're trying to mock, then doing an imitation of the people here who were worried was way off base.
Foreigners in Tokyo were quoted as saying, "HFUYCFUODWYFCUOWVCOC!!!!!!!!! AN EARTHQUAKE OMIFUCKINGGOD!!!!! I NEED TO CALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!! I'M SO LUCKY TO BE ALIVE THANK YOU JESUS!!!! THANK YOU JESUUUUUUUUS!!!!!!!"
Or, how about something more relevant to today like every Japanese person boycotting coming to America for fear of catching the Swine Flu and dieing?
I was going to bring it up but the swine flu is something the Japanese people don't understand themselves in their own country, let alone abroad.
Their reactions can be gut-bustingly-hysterical.
Take one example.
I'm actually looking at one school right now out the window at Haruka's house that was closed because a student had Swine Flu.
This is how it went down.
The student went abroad to NYC after the outbreak became a big deal.
Since there were a number of cases in the US at that time she had to sign a contract where she would be quarantined in her home for a week AFTER returning to ensure she wouldn't infect anyone else.
She went to NYC, SOMEHOW actually managed to get infected, came back, and stayed alone in her room for a week unable to accept visits during which time she actually developed symptoms.
THEY CLOSED THE ENTIRE SCHOOL.
Which is not only a school.
It's a kindergarten, elementary school, high school and university.
Factor in students, faculty and staff, that's well over a thousand lives impacted by one girl who wasn't in contact with any of them.
Japanese people FREAK out about those things even in their own backyard.
Now, that's all well and good. One might actually think it's the responsible reaction. But when you've got so many blatant contradictions, one can't help but chuckle. The number of unsanitory habits one comes across here that we take as common sense abroad are remarkable. But again, this fits the 'uchi' and 'soto' aspect of Japanese life. ie. our germs are okay, but stuff from outside is the plague.
Anyway, not worth going into them here, better suited for one of my Facebook entries that I hope to start up again.
