Can't believe no one's made a thread for this game (coming out Sep. 22)

      From Halopedia:

Halo 3: ODST, formerly known as Halo 3: Recon, is a First Person Shooter video game exclusively developed on the Xbox 360. It is currently being developed by Bungie, LLC., and will published by Microsoft Game Studios. ODST is set to be released on September 22nd, 2009 [2].
Taking place in the Kenyan port city of New Mombasa, ODST follows a squad of elite Marine Orbital Drop Shock Troopers during the Covenant invasion of Earth on October 20th, 2552. Knocked off course due to the Mombasa Slipspace Incident, these six Marines fight through the waste-filled and destroyed streets in order to link up and to destroy and evade the Covenant occupation force in the city.
ODST is a campaign expansion and prologue to Halo 3 which will fill in details of what happened in Southeastern Kenya from Halo 2 and Halo 3 [3]. An official five-part prequel comic, Helljumper, will be released in the months following up to and after the release of ODST starting in JHalo 3: ODST, formerly known as Halo 3: Recon, is a First Person Shooter video game exclusively developed on the Xbox 360. So the game will be full retail price (60 dollars), including 2 disks.

One disk includes ODST's campaign and a new horde mode named Firefight, similar to the Horde mode from Gears of War 2, and the beta for Halo: Reach in the extras

Second disk will include Halo 3's matchmaking, including all the map packs and the 3 new maps, with Halo 3's file share, photo and video transfer and share etc.

Okay, glad I searched this first. Beat the campaign's story but haven't collected all the audio logs yet. Damn good story, but still not nearly as good as anything found in Halo 2 or Halo 3. I felt like some of the characters came off as a little flat and the romance angle wasn't played off all that well. Otherwise I really enjoyed it. The real thing that I love about this game though is Firefight mode. Holy shit! It's so goddamn intense and you always feel vulnerable with limited health packs that only respawn occasionally and ammo in little supply. I also love how hard some of the Brutes are to kill, definitely adds some seriously needed tension to the mode especially with those hammer wielding chieftains. I'm also shocked at how dangerous Grunts came be with grenades, it makes me hate them so much. The pistol is a godsend.

I watched my roommate marathon his way through the story campaign, and I must say that it was pretty intense, though it required a lot of trial-and-error (and cussing) due to the game relentlessly throwing enemy after enemy at the player. I've since dubbed the ODST the ''worst army ever'', since the NPCs simply hung back and let the Player take on hordes of foot soldiers, hovercraft, tanks, you name it, all alone.

Hahaha, yeah that's pretty much been the case in all the Halo games. I've always found that aspect of the series to be really weak. Hopefully next year Reach will change that.

Hah, didn't expect this old thread to come back up. Not much love for the Halo series here.

I beat the game solo on Heroic, and the last mission was fucking intense, especially the last part, I had never cussed so much in my life with all the Brutes at the end just waiting for me to move and use their maulers and fucking sticky grenades. I haven't had enough time to play firefight, but it is pretty fun. I'll try getting all the achievements on this one. I just love using the pistol, though it doesn't really work that well against shielded brutes, so I just shoot them till theyre shield is down and bam, headshot.

I noticed that the best way to take down shielded Brutes was the plasma pistol and pistol combo or a carbine. The game kind of points you in the direction to use a plasma pistol and pistol but when there are a lot of Brutes and especially chieftains coming right for you (especially in that last mission) there's nothing like a handy carbine to toast the mother fuckers.

Been playing the hell out of this game recently. I play it more than I post here, but that isn't saying much. Never been big on the series but it's fun. I'll throw on a gamertag later still trying to adjust to team tactics and whatnot.

I actually like it better this way. And I'm pretty sure it's intentional design decision. If I beat a singleplayer game I want it to be 100% thanks to me. Or something like that. So no help from computer, thank you. But I suppose the illusion of A.I. helping out could be stronger. Like more scripted stuff as some other games do. These guys can eat a lot of lead tho 👅. And plasma.

It's a pretty great package. I was little worried the game wouldn't be no near as colourful or humorous as past Halo games has been but luckily I was wrong. Campaign was pretty sweet. But I think I still liked Halo 3's campaign more. If this had the Flood and there would be greater variation of environments I might think differently.

But soundtrack was holy shit awesome, I really liked the new story telling mechanics and ODST stuff was fun. Even if playing an ODST isn't much different than playing a SPARTAN after all. Plus, yeah, Firefight is cool.
