I really have no idea what I want to do with my life and its quite annoying. I dont really have a passion for anything(Only if Pokemon battling was real…). So, even though it sounds a bit childish, tell me the reason you do what you do and where you want to be at eventually. Even if its something like "I was shot once so I want to make better bullet proof vests".
Do you have a passion that you want to pursue as a Career

Drawing.
Not comics obviously. I'll be teaching at an alterlier school once I get my teachers credential, but this won't be till my later years. 40+
For my younger career I'll be freelancing as a concept designer, illustrator for books, posters, etc. I want to get into a video game company to do concept art, my friend got into Blizzard, but I wanna get into ArenaNet.
Obviously I'll be poor, in debt, and probably stressed out my whole life until I start teaching. But I like drawing, not cartoons or shit like that, it'd be nice to be an animator, but I'd much prefer a concept artist.

Well, my only passion and reason for not having offed myself yet is i want to go to japan and hopefully live there for the rest of my life. So recently found the Jet Programme, and if i can't find another easier way to get to japan, I'm off to college for 3-4 years to get a bachelors degree. Though i'm going to call first and ask if it is necessary, and if so, does it have to be a bachelors degree in English and/or Teaching(which would make sense), or can it be any bachelor's degree. Since some courses can be as fast as 2 years for your degree. So that's my goal. If possible i'd like to go before i'm 30.
-
I want to take a fictional story that I've forged in my head for the past 10 years, and put it into an animated drama, action, and comedy television series.
In the meantime, I'm trying to gain as much money as possible through Computer Programming, and I'm trying to start a website with a few friends of mine.
Time will tell if I succeed.

Please elaborate.

Mechanical engineering. We are living in an age where new and interesting technology is popping up left and right. This is almost a golden age for scientists in general. I just want to put my mind to use and help create various wonders in the world..
It will probably end in one of two ways. I invent a revolutionary device that progresses mankind into a utopian era or i build a death ray and become a super villain. It could go either way, really.

Or more than likely, you'll make small advancements but nothing to big so outside the science community you won't be to well known. You might be big enough to make those "People who made a difference" commercials, but we'll probably forget you after the commercial, or probably won't even pay attention to it. I know I don't.
-
Most of all I think I would love working with animals but I know I wouldn't be able to work as a vet or anything for a variety of reasons such as disliking biology, wouldn't be able to stand putting down animals, etc. So instead I took a look at what else I do; I used to create scripts for a Ragnarok Online server and I did enjoy doing codes and such so I took up Computer Science in college which I still enjoy so far.
Otherwise I always thought game design was cool and I have made some games via RPG Maker but if I am lazy and unmotivated with something as simple as RPG Maker (it gets tiresome fast) I don't think I'd do so well with a career in that, plus making and testing games isn't as enjoyable as playing them. So really, I think I'll stick with computer science. It's good for keeping the mind occupied too, I suppose.
-
I absolutely love learning to speak, read, write, etc different languages. I've already taken 5 years of Spanish in high school (well, one year was 8th grade and I skipped 4) and next year I'm taking French and German. In college I'm gonna major in linguistics.
-
I want to become A radio DJ of my own station one day.
-
Art.
somehow its become a family line…
so i might as well continue the art lineup..with a normal paying job -

So long as I'm afforded the opportunity to sell out, I'm happy.

Comic books. I am horribly addicted to both drawing, and storytelling (creating worlds, characters, stories, settings, etc.). Comic books let me do both. So, I've been actively pursuing this career! Wish me luck, this is a hard-ass business to get into!

Pokemon battling.

English Teacher … I'd love to be an author but that's a bit too out-of-my-grasp, so I'd happily settle for English teacher.
-
I came in here expecting most people to say "Go to Japan and live there the rest of my life because it is Japan and the land of anime" but I was wrong.
-
I'd like to go to other countries, but not live there. The USA is the best
.

I want to be a book author. For the last year or so i have been thinking about this book i wanna write. I dout i will get paid well but i love writting

I don't know what you're smoking, but I need some of it if Im to tolerate a couple more years of this god-forsaken hell slab of hypocrisy, media control and tennis shoes.

Animator or Comic Book Illustrator. I've always had a imagination of making up characters but, I never gave any of them good names or there styles looked too weird. And now, I'm still looking forward to be an animator.
-
Yeah, it's getting pretty bad I guess. I'd still rather live here than Japan. That is unless the US totally collapses :ermm: …
-
My career goal is multiple careers, and that I can still be working when I'm 90+ and not be confined to a hospital bed.
Though the internet pretty much ensures that my old age is going to be fudging awesome, I'd still like to have multiple jobs and skills.

So true, i'm not gonna say i hate this country, but i do hate what it's becoming/ already is. It's the reason i only go out to work, or if there is something that must be done like going to the bank, store, and other things that might occur that need me to get out of my house. Normally the farthest i go is to take the trash can out to the street. I use to get out a lot more, but eventually i noticed that everywhere i turned and every conversation i happened to over hear just made me want to punch a puppy repeatedly. I love puppies, but yea they made me mad. Though i have self control, and just do my best to make my mind wander and forget about it. Which is another thing i'd see, people who just don't know when to shut the fuck up, or when being quiet is better than "keeping it real". Though sometimes i do enjoy watching them rant, because someone will turn it into an episode of "When 'keeping it real' goes wrong."
PJfQevjpf_g/end rant
And on topic, really surprised too that i'm the only one here wanting to go and live in japan. Though my goa isn't because anime, it's been like 6 months since iwatched anything aside from the One Piece anime. I want to go because i'm tired of american culture, and it's something i wanted to do even before i started watching anime. Thuogh just now i'm serious about it.
-
I've always wanted to make my own Manga series; I know it sounds farfetched but I already have a good series premise that I've been creating for years, and I have been practacing drawing just to make it a reality.
-
always wanted to be a programmer…
and becoming one too
-
My whole life I've wanted to be an author, but I've decided to be an English professor and write meanwhiles. I'm already working on it; I've got the newest draft of my current novel on the way and I'm taking classes for my English major at UC Davis. I'll be getting a doctorate and then write the books I teach my class.
-
Pokemon battling.
Pokemon cuisine.
Honey-Barbequed Dialga. Buffalo Palkia. Philly Giratina Cheesesteak.
On a more serious note, I'm thinking of becoming a psychiatrist, although biochemistry is so fun. The choices! So hard!

If you're going to go for a doctorate I might make a suggestion. Go to Sacramento State (or SF/SJ State, I see you're from the bay) and complete your Master's in English, then transfer back to UCD for a doctorate. The UC school system has a slant bias against UC undergraduates or open campus students, to overcome that you need (in my view) 1.2X the GPA of someone from another school coming in.
With a Master's you can also teach community college, which serves as good experience for going into university education.

Translating books. And, if possible, make a living of writing my own if I can pull it off. It's going to be difficult, but I try to remain positive because I love languages. Drawing, too, but to get a good job involving that talent of mine would be even harder.

Honestly, I have no idea where I'll go after I get my undergrad at Davis at this point, but I'll keep that in mind. I really like the Seattle area; I might try for UW if it has a strong English/Writing program.
And I do plan on starting off at a community college, most likely while I'm still working on my doctorate (if I can humanly pull that off), but thanks for the advice anyways ^ ^

I also don't have any great passions to pursue as a career. It's a bummer.
Just thought we had too many positive replies… :ninja:

1.I am going to be a kindergarten school teacher (already half way through my studies) 'cause I believe future lies in children and the kindergarten is where the bases are built believe it or not. I myself didn't think so at first. I was like "Ohh I'll pass the time having fun with the kids since it's not really teaching and get my 1.5-2k Euros each month." Then I realized with my studies and rl observations that the first 4-5 years, are the most important and if I screw up, the kids will be screwed up. Kinda scary
2. I'll write a book. I already have most of the story planned out and some of it already written though it's just practice and I doubt I am going to use much of that. Also two girls from my class and I, already wrote a short children's story and I am going to draw the illustrations.
3. While I'll be working as a kindergarten, I have decided to go to a local college and study Graphics design or Psychology or who knows? Maybe both! -
My big passion is travelling, meeting other cultures and make them a part of yourself, so I will pursuit a career that enables me to travel a lot, but right now im sick of studying so i'm working to save up some money so I can travel for a few months, first destination will be bangkok, then Ill work my way through all of southeast asia, and as soon as I hit 20 I will try to take a university course in Japan.
-
Some kind of story telling, as that is the thing i got most skill in. However i have two problems.
the small one is that i can't choose medium: comics, movies, books, games..
The big one is that i lack patience, big time.
I seriously doubt, that i will become something i wan't to because i lack the patience to become something i want to.Also, saying your dream is to move to japan, why?
-
Also, saying your dream is to move to japan, why?
Don't know who you are refering to, but as for me I think its a unique culture with both pros and cons, and I'm into most japanese media like movies, games, manga, and fiction. The cities sure seems great, very modern and fashionable, great nightlife, food, cute chicks, and I love all the details that japanese people seem to be so obsessed with, almost like a fetisch.
-
Being a talentless hack, I can't really see myself getting an awesome job at any point during my life. I don't really have any ambitions or goals when it comes to my career I'm just happy as long as I'm being paid.
-
I want to end up with a high-level job with the front office of a major American sports team, preferably in the NFL. I don't know many people who's passions are both sports and manga, but that's what I am. It's probably a really long path, but it's something that's worth working my ass off for.

Super Model / Movie Star / Super Hero
It's possible, I know it is.
-
So you find cartoons to be shitty?
He said "or shit like that". Its sort of like saying "stuff like that". Doesn't mean he thinks cartoons are shit.
-
i want to become an animation god
-
You'd be suprised how easy that is…
And I find it funny how people decided to use this topic, of all topics, to play Internet Intellectual and bash the USA. Cute.
-
So you find cartoons to be shitty?
Not at all. I for one enjoy cartoons very much.
I just don't want to make a career out of animation. It would probably be fun, but I can't see myself doing it.
-
And I find it funny how people decided to use this topic, of all topics, to play Internet Intellectual and bash the USA. Cute.
Going off-topic for the sake of insulting a minor off-topic discussion that lasted the entirety of three posts and ended a couple days ago. Cute.

I want to be a graphic designer, designing logos for electronics or wicked piantjobs on cars or motorcycle. By the side, I would want to publish a comic book.
-
i want to become an animation god
Have you applied for CalArts yet?
I heard they have a brilliant illustration teacher there, but I'm gonna be going to Academy of Arts University or Columbus College of Art and Design for their Fine Arts department, but still if I had the money to get into CalArts I'd apply in a second.
I'm sure you'll do great, you just have a style that screams Animator.
-
I want to study history and theology. Not archeology so much as just historical facts and events. Maybe I'll be a high school history teacher or a professor at a university…but I'd love to travel the world and stand in the Parthenon or the Vatican churches or the streets of a New England town and just revel in the knowledge that amazing things have happened in the same spot where I stand, however many hundreds of years ago. And to know what happened...that is what I want to be able to do.
It sounds silly, I know, but I've wanted to know as much history as I could ever since I was little. History is my dream. -
I want to tell stories through visual mediums, film, televison, animation mostly.
I screenwrite and come up with ideas but can't exactly do the finalization/physical part of the job. I'm all about preproduction.
