One piece universe geographics

is theres a one piece question thread? if so, sorry -bows-
so heres the thing, the grand line goes around the umm… one piece earth right? it's a straight line. and the entrance is a mountain, later revealed that raftel(sp?), the last island of the grand line is probably where one piece is at.

so if grandline is kind of like a circle, so shouldnt the entrance of the grandline, and raftel be kind of right next to each other? THEN wouldnt it be just easier to go 'backwards' onto raftel then go 'forwards' through every island and then to raftel?

and since the grand line is a circle, shouldnt ratfel be right before the [entrance]? as in

i'm getting more confused… so what i'm trying to say is since grand line is one ocean, and goes around in a circle, raftel and the entrance should be RIGHT next to each other! so that the hell, is there a giant water fall right after raftel so they cant get back up then? but then that would need a giant cliff in the middle of the ocean!! what?!

of course i'm glad they took the 'long' way cuz one piece is an amazing story. but yeah i dont get it X.X

ok i'm going to tackle this in a way that hopefully it makes sense to you..
uh when we first see the strawhats go into the Grand line they go through the weird stream and that shots them to the top of a mountain and then down into the grand line. so pretty much yea Raftel technically is right behind the entrance. But the mountain.. i think it's called the Red mountain is in the way so no u cannot just go backwards. Unless there was a knock up stream there… which there isn't.

Sorry to sound like I'm pimping it, but we did just talk about this in the One Piece Podcast. Basically though, the reverse mountain goes from every "Blue" (Sea) and only sends the person back to the main part of the Grand Line. This means there's no way to get to Raftel unless you go through the Calm Belt or over the Red Line (Luffy can't do either, though Marine's certainly could…

Even if it were possible, the problem would be that the log pose wouldn't be set to Raftel. Therefore, there would be no way of knowing how to get to that island. You'd be wondering around the Grand Line aimlessly for god-knows-how-long.
