Hey guys. I want to ask something about Vegapunk-Fansubs that troubles me for some time now. Does anyone know if they are going to release any other episodes like episodes 294-339 (i think encoded is the right word with english subs of course). Since they already releasing subs (i think they already have subbed episodes 340 - 370 but they only have released the scripts for these episodes) . I would really like them to release episodes 340-363 so that they can take totally out Instanz
Hopes for the next episodes . . . . . . . .

They made a news post like yesterday. They have like 20 episodes in encoding or fixing attack affects. And they're trying to catch up with the vanillapunk things.
Really it's the fact that they're trying to do such complex attack effects, using Adobe Aftereffects and all.

I've been away from the Vegapunk boards for a while. Why are they using the vanilla concept. I think I read that someplace before but I dont remember.

It's along the lines so they can release encodes of SOME form.
But the affects they put in make it hard to do things quickly, then they got so behind they don't want to release anything until they have big batches done.Which is a terrible idea. Nobody feels like anything's getting done when you try to release in batches and it slows things down even more…

But what is the whole difference between Vanilla Punk and the original stuff they were doing?
-
It's encodes with no effects. It's to make it seem like they're doing something by putting out some releases.
But ANIDB actually puts it as a separate group… -
The Vanillas aren't really encodes unless you consider the raws to be encodes. They are created by muxing (adding) the softsubs .ass script together with the HD raw to create a single file. So you are basically getting the same thing you would get by downloading the HD raw and the VP script and watching them together, except that you only have to download a single file instead of two. The script is the same one that VP releases separately, and the video is the same as the HD raw that VP releases separately. It's true that there are no special effects, but the video quality is higher than the hardsub releases with effects because the subs in the Vanillas are softsubs, which don't require encoding like the hardsubs with effects do. Maybe someone from VP can put in their 2 cents if I am leaving anything out.

Well, they're still encodes. As long as it's an video with subtitles attached to it. But hey, I'm just repeating the description from the original news post:

It doesn't depend on whether it has subtitles or not. If you want to get really technical about it, even raws are encodes/encodings, because they were encoded by the original raw provider from the original video stream recorded from TV. However, when VP refers to releasing encodes/encodings, as in the thread you are referring to, they are talking about the hardsubbed releases with effects that they reencode from the raws. The Vanillas are NOT reencoded, but rather the subs are directly added to the raws as softsubs by muxing with no processing done to the video, so in the sense that VP generally uses the term, the Vanillas are NOT encodes/encodings (except in the same technical sense that the raws are), and are not generally referred to as encodes/encodings. I won't claim to be an expert, but I was an encoder for Vegapunk for more than a year, and I still keep in touch with some of the staff so I at least know a little about the subject.
