NOPE,like many people may have thought (mainly due to being cancelled on AS), Funimation is not dropping Detective Conan after their contract of 7 seasons (112 episode) runs out. And how do I know this? I just found out from TV Tome that Funimation has bought EVERY Detective Conan movie that has been released, and 4 more seasons of the anime. Making a total of 8 movies and 241 episodes to be dubbed in English so far!!!!!!!!! Now I can sleep at night without fear of the series getting dropped. By the way the 9th Detective Conan movie is in Japan Theaters in April and the anime in Japan has 391 episodes. Best of all, there is going to be a 2 part episode about the best character Sonoko (Serena) dubbed in English soon.

TV Tome is quite possibly THE least reliable news source around. I wouldn't take any thing you hear there and there alone very seriously. Not that I'd like to see the series get dropped…I think it's a pretty fun one (even though I mysef don't have much interest in getting every damn episode/DVD).
Also, the name changes made were at the request of the Japanese producers who wanted to make the series more accessible to American audiences. If the series does continue up to that part, Ai's name will likely be changed as well.

I don't mind the name changes, but it seems very awkward for the manager of a very traditional Japanese hotel to be named "JOHN SMITH."

I REALLY hope that they don't drop it. Its been one of my favorites for years, and I'm finally able to see it.
As for the name changes, I really don't mind them. The only problem is that many of the characters' original names are jokes/puns on mystery writers/characters (Conan Edogawa being the best example).

Yeah, well Conan gets to keep his name. The name changes are a shame, but Funimation has no control over them. They were forced on them by TMS.
Japanese companies sure can ruin an anime dub.

[snapback]5084[/snapback]Normally, I agree, but I think in this series case, it's actually a good thing. I find it's much easier to keep track of each episode's suspects when their names are westernized, for the most part. When I watch the Japanese episodes, I usually find myself referring to them as "the guy with the mustache" or "the guy voiced by Sanji's VA", or something. Watching the English version, it's much easier to organize my suspicions and such by name.
