@KageKageKing Jaleel decided he was okay with voicing the character now, (But he will never wear the outfit again) so they were going to start trying to remake the character as a brand, starting with that bizarro appearance in a Scooby Doo episode.

Is . . . is WB just getting rid of all their animation projects?
At this point it’s safe to say Zaslev can cut you in, he can cut you out, or he can just cut you.

I've finally gotten around to watching Tuca & Bertie since I've heard some good things about it.
Yeah, wow, this is VERY different from Bojack. It's pretty good so far, but yeah, different.
I suppose I can respect how frank it is about the female body.
-
Would anybody like a joint project between Henry Selick and Jordan Peele?
FUCK YEAH.
-
looks awesome, I'm genuinelly excited.
That and Del Toro's Pinocchio
-
I know, this is a great year for stop-motion. (and both on Netflix!)
Selick said he actually wanted to make this a little rougher. Because while Laika can make stop-motion as smooth as you could possibly want, he didn't want it getting too close to CGI. And I am a-okay with that.
-
Wasn't aware of this project til today. Warner let go of a bunch of the staff to "Bye Bye Bunny" for HBO Max. As some of them came out to announce they've been relieved of their duty, the head of story came to provide some info.
-
Just started binging Harley S3, gotta post this:
-
So how about that Primal finale huh?
-
Maaaaaan, I wasn't expecting the last few seconds for SURE.
Is it the end of the show? Is Gendy onboard of a third season?

According to this article...yeah, I guess so?
https://bleedingcool.com/tv/primal-genndy-tartakovsky-really-excited-about-season-3-idea/
And yeah, season 2 was pretty great overall, but based on some rumors I'd heard the finale didn't surprise me too much. Still, hell of a way to end it.

Genndy beck to the lab again

So I'm finally hunkering down to watch Amazing World of Gumball, which ran for six seasons so I guess it must have had its fans.
I'm most of the way through the first season now and, while I love the whole idea of mixing and mashing different animation styles, as far as the story and characters...I dunno. The stories so far are typical kid cartoon fluff, but I find the characters to be really uninspired. There's Gumball who's an idiot, there's Darwin who's an idiot, there's Richard who's a mega idiot, there's Nicole who's the smart sensible, and there's Anais who's a genius child prodigy. Now, putting aside the possible sexism of all the boys being dumb and the girls being smart, these just strike me as really basic, repetitive, unoriginal personalities. Gumball and Darwin's moron schtick gets old and predictable really fast.
I guess the show is fine enough in small doses. I actually had to take a break in the middle of the season because I wasn't enjoying myself anymore. Now that I'm back to it...yeah, I guess it's fine.
I don't know. Any thoughts on it? Does it get vastly better in later seasons? I know there's that one Nicole episode everyone raves about.
-
Isn't Gendy working on something called Unicorn Immortal Warrior? I worry if that Discovery merge fiasco may have killed it.
-
If I recall, it really doesn't. It gets better sure but... the main characters aren't going to be different enough, and if that's what bothers you, then I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the rest (I've seen quite a few episodes but not any of the last season or most of them and don't intend to). There's a few really good episodes but... at the end of the day this still a standard kid's show that occasionally dips into some biting humor.
-
@Nobodyman Season 2 sees a bit of an art style improvement while season 3 hits some vocal change improvements. Personally scrolling through a list of episodes to remember what was when, I find a good deal of season 1 to be pretty hard to stomach memories of. It was pretty bad. The series definitely finds it's footing sometime after that, but not sure how far into season 2 I'd say that happens.
Not saying it gets amazing, but it at least gets a bit more polished and tolerable to the point I respect it's existence.
-
Man, just 4 episodes in Cyberpunk Edgerunners and it's quite decent. Enjoying it so far (haven't touched the game)
-
Well this release came outta nowhere. A complete series boxset of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is coming out. It's includes the seasons that never got season boxsets during the original dvd run for the series.
-
Are they ever going to make an Overwatch animated tv show?
-
I could see them making a live action movie than them making a series.

Prepare yourselves. Mario Movie Teaser coming out October 6th at comic-con with release date April 2023.
Schaffrillas has convinced me to see this movie in theaters, no matter how good/bad it looks or what the reviews or reaction is once it does come out. As a lifelong Mario fan, I owe it myself to see the utter shitshow this movie is almost certainly going to be. In fact, aside from watching the trailer, I want to go in as blind as possible, so I'm going to try to avoid seeing any reviews or reactions beforehand.
-
@Time-Control-Magician that would be cool, I just figured it would be animated but I'd be tots down for a live action, which characters do you think they would choose
-
Likely Winston, Widowmaker, Soldier 76, Genji, Tracer, Cassidy, Hanzo, Zenyatta, Tracer.
Just to hazard a guess.
-
Well damn, it seems DC Super Hero Girls ended with the TTG crossover movie.
-
A cool little reminder of how awesome LAIKA is:
-
Man, just finished watching Primal. Absolutely Kino.
-
Man, this is so cringe.

Just watched the latest Bob’s Burgers episode. It’s an Anthology story about what Louise will be when she grows up. Bob told a story instead of Louise and his was pretty touching in terms of what might happen in the future and figuring out yourself and what work you’ll do. I miss the edginess of earlier Bob’s Burgers episodes but there’s a nice wholesomeness to the latter seasons which I appreciate.

For anyone who doesn't know, Bob's story was based on the movie Children of Men.

Henry Selick's new stop-motion is looking nice and spooky:
Key and Peele sound like they're having a great time. And I don't think this is LAIKA because the animation seems too rough. Unless that's intentional.
-
Disney didn't do a good job promoting that the new season of Miracurlous started last week. So I watch both of the most recent episodes to catch up. The first two episodes of Season 5 were a great start of the season.

Guillermo del Toro says that animation is not a genre for kids, but a medium. An art form. And Pinocchio is one of his many visions in that:

he looked just like Totoro in the red carpet with his tiny tiny woodboy
-
I somehow totally missed this. But it's on Netflix, and it's fucking adorable.
Stop motion animation seems to be gaining speed, and I love it. (and if you know your Japanese lore, yes these are all Japanese kami/creatures. Even the umbrella)

Inside Job season 1 part 2 comes out November 18th. Here’s a clip.
-
A previously-thought lost Betty Boop short was found a few years ago in Russia and has been restored by UCLA's Film and Television Archive.
Also an article about it.
-
Good ole Betty. And good job, UCLA.
-
Does it have to?
-
They actually going to pay their animators this time?
-
Surely you jest?
-
-
Lower Decks had a pretty good S3.
Wendell and Wild was great, they could have been a more wild on Key-Peele, but I guess that was not the point of the story.

Anybody remember Hullabaloo?
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hullabaloo-steampunk-animated-film?utm_source=cordial&utm_campaign=bck-11072022update&utm_term=#/For those who don't, it was an Indiegogo campaign started by James Lopez, a veteran Disney animator who needed funding for a project he and several other 2D animators were starting to help keep 2D animation from dying. A movie with a heroine with a Steampunk setting. I love hand-drawn animation, and I love Steampunk, so fuck yeah I donated. Tons of Disney and animation fans stepped up to the plate too, and the thing went from an $80,000 goal and made over $400,000. It's been over 5 years, but they finished sound mixing, the last big step, and are getting so fucking close.
To celebrate, they released a promotional clip. Or rather, a vid of several shots to show how it looks:
I don't know WHY they put the title over it, but what I can see looks fabulous, and I like the music. I'll be hopeful.
-
Some good news, The Calamity Jane complete series Kickstarter succeed, That means the entire series is coming to dvd now. I never seen the show, mostly because the WB canceled it after 3 episodes and they didn't aired rest of the episodes. So it's nice to see an official release of the entire series.

Only Guillermo del Toro could imagine a Blue Fairy like this:
