A lot of the people focus on the awful redesigns or drop in animation quality when it comes to TNBA versus BTAS but I think the worst thing the former did was how it killed Bruce Wayne as a character which carried forward to pretty much every DCAU show and project from then on.

Finally got around to watching WolfWalkers and…holy shit, that movie is beautiful. I really like Song of the Sea and Breadwinner, but yeah, I think I'm prepared to say this is my new favorite Cartoon Saloon movie. The relationship between Robyn and Mebh is just adorable. And, like, I think wolves are fine, I don't have any strong love or affinity towards, but after this movie I was like, "OMG, I fucking love wolves!" This movie should've won best animated picture over Soul.
And Robby, I don't know if you've seen this movie, but if not, you uh...kinda have to. Hell, everyone should see it. Just pay $6 for one month of Apple TV. It's worth it.

I saw it ages ago.
One thing I particularly liked is all the feral characters were in sitll rough sketchy pencils, while everyone else was clean inked. And that certain characters would go back and forth a bit. It was a nice touch.

This show is such a treasure, it really is.

That's actually owned by Disney these days.
And, yes, yes, it is.

Batman: TAS is still the best version of Batman we ever got for me. Almost everything about it just so amazing.
I'd put him in joint place with JLU's batman.
Though I don't want to compare them, because TAS clearly made the foundation of what Batman should be, with JLU just building on that. That said…. since Geoff Johns released his 'Batman: three jokers' story, I embrace the wider variations of Batman and it's villains (eg batman beyond) in both comic, series and movies.

Oh, I mean, it's all the same incarnation for me, so I don't really differentiate between Batman in B:TAS, JLU and so on. B:TAS just was the obvious choice for me to name, because it's the one that ultimately gave us the definite versions for both the character and his supporting cast and Rogues Gallery.

Why are you saying this as if those two are not the same guy?

So aside from WolfWalkers, I also watched a bunch of other non-Disney animated movies I've been meaning to see.
Anomalisa - Directed by Charlie Kaufman, the guy who writes and directs all those weird movies like Being John Malkovich and Synecdoche, New York, this movie is basically about the Fregoli delusion, which is something I didn't even know existed until I saw this. It's a compelling drama that really gets into the mindset of the main character, and it has a suitably and, I suppose, purposefully unsettling art style. Also, it has to have one of the most realistic sex scenes I've seen in a movie, in that it's not super passionate, it's a little awkward, and things happen a bit slowly, but ultimately it's still satisfying. And, huh, I guess that describes this movie pretty well.
The Illusionist - Directed by the same guy who did Triplets of Belleville, though I guess this is a different animation studio. And apparently this movie is about Jacques Tati (or I guess it was based on an abandoned script by him), an actor I did not know existed until I saw (boy, these reviews are getting repetitive). In terms of animation and style, this one is definitely more reserved and less outlandish than ToB, which is a little disappointing, but I think it fits the more down-to-earth plot. And be warned, this movie is a bit of a bummer as it's all about fading stardom and, spoiler alert, things don't exactly end super happily for the main character.
Loving Vincent - Alright, I'm happy to say I did know who Vincent van Gogh was going into this movie (I should hope so), and this movie is pretty much about is life, told through a Citizen Kane-style interview plotline. There's definitely a good amount of informational nuggets you'll learn about van Gogh throughout the film (unless you're, like, already a hardcore van Gogh fan) and it conveys an interesting drama, as it wonders whether Gogh may actually have been murdered, rather than committed suicide (spoiler alter: maybe, but no, he probably still killed himself). And, of course, this movie deserves a medal just for the sheer artistic effort that was put into it, as every frame of this movie is a pointing. It's a wholly unique experience that's well worth watching.
Missing Link - Laika has had a number of great hits with Coraline, Paranorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings and…well, this is certainly a movie they decided to follow those up with. Okay, so yeah, this is a pretty simple, not very ambitious movie, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's pretty much the Luca of Laika movies (huh). I went in expected a cute, harmless, entertaining enough movie and that's pretty much what I got.
The Red Turtle - I knew basically nothing about this movie going in. I just knew it was a Studio Ghibli co-production (their first and only, if I'm not mistaken) and that it, presumably, involved a red turtle. Anyway, this movie was directed by a Dutch man, and co-produced by several French studios, and, yeah, I think this is definitely more of a European film. The movie is a simple, but gorgeously animated, story about a man who gets shipwrecked on an island (I won't give away any more than that), and it pretty much leaves things up to the viewer as to what they should take away from it. Me, I thought it was good, but probably one of those movies I'll only ever watch once.

If you haven't seen them already, you should check out Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs. Isle of Dogs gets a special mention for being set in Japan and having almost no subtitles.

Yep, I've seen both of them. Isle of Dogs was great, but Fantastic Mr. Fox…I dunno. I mean, I really wanted to like it, but I guess I just didn't get what it was trying to do.
Also, the world it's set in is really confusing. All the animals act like humans and can talk with humans, but the humans sometimes treat them like animals and sometimes like humans, so like...how does this work?
-
Maybe that's what happens when Wes Anderson adapts other author's stuff rather than telling his own stories.
-
Why are you saying this as if those two are not the same guy?
Same voice actor and designer, but different directors.
I'd say their is a noticeable difference between both portrayals.
-
The weird part is that both cartoons take place in the same continuity.
Including Batman beyond & Static shock.
While they are the same people, its easy to notice the progressive differences between both iterations. I prefer the JLU version more,

A wonderful letter from Phil Lord and Chris Miller explaining why animation needs more recognition from the industry:
https://variety.com/2022/film/news/phil-lord-christopher-miller-animation-oscars-1235225442/?fbclid=IwAR2if-ti_Z9CXb36YHPq1yMWTPNrYamo6-LsTyt8z7KnPnyR30tzE3mV4SsAny time someone disses animation about how it's "not cinema" I want to tie them to a chair and make them watch everything in the Studio Ghibli vault

New clip from the Aqua Teen spin off.
Apparently this is the entire episode. It's one of 10 mini-sodes they'll be airing every weekday for the next two weeks. A bit disappointing as I thought we'd be getting full episodes, but I'll take what I can get.
-
I feel so bad for all the artists. This isnt fair at all.
-
Aw man, this isn't the first time a Bone animated project has fallen through.
-
"Clearly, the problem here is that we have too much content and not our tendency to randomly cancel shows people really like for executive power play reasons."
-
" Netflix currently touts “Boss Baby” as the ideal of what an animated series on the platform should be "
Yeah, that's why you're losing all your subscribers.
-
Let's all go to Disney+, at least there we know they won't be axing their animation studio.
-
I'm still not to happy with Netflix canceling for The Dark Crystal TV series.
-
Age of Resistance was the show I was specifically thinking of when I wrote that since the biggest reason for its cancellation seems to have been "The last person approved this so I need to get rid of it."
-
I swear, if they cancel Arcane I am cancelling my subscription.
-
God fucking dammit, and here I've been singing the praises of Netflix animation department. Between stuff like Klaus, Maya and the Three and Bojack Horseman, as well as the stuff they've acquired or co-produced like Mitchells vs the Machines and RObin Robin they've made some of the animation I've been the most interested in in recent years.
Maybe you could try being satisfied with just having a stable profit and not chase the insane myth of perpetual growth????

@Daz:

What? In a Capitalist society? No no no you must be greed enough to shoot yourself in the foot and fail your enterprise.
-
So is Netflix basically digging its grave now? Between this and them trying to crack down on shared accounts apparently, it seems they're attracting a lot of ire lately.
-
Cracking down on too many shared passwords isn't a bad thing from a business perspective, but THIS? Sheer idiocy.
-
I swear, if they cancel Arcane I am cancelling my subscription.
Oh please say this isn’t the case, that would really suck
Hopefully they figure out this is a bad move
-

You don’t need to axe your animation studio when you can just unexpectedly cancel your popular animated shows after 1 or two seasons three if you’re feeling frisky:ninja:
Age of Resistance was the show I was specifically thinking of when I wrote that since the biggest reason for its cancellation seems to have been "The last person approved this so I need to get rid of it."
Let’s call this the Keiji Inafune Effect…..unless someone can come up with a more notable name in this specific medium context.
-
There not canceling everything right?

There not canceling everything right?
Just the stuff you care about.
Chicago Party Aunt is going to run for 83 seasons.

It wouldn't be that bad, but consider this: Netflix's one-person/one-screen plan doesn't even contain HD or UHD definition. For those, you have to subscribe to the bigger plans, which come with multiple screens. Which is useless if one lives alone. I've always found this setup strange, but maybe only because the only other subscription streaming service I'm familiar with is HBO, which I get for free from my job.

Well shit it can’t get any worse.
-
Well, they're definitely adding something.
[qimg]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FQwA1k3X0AgiuOq?format=jpg&name=small[/qimg]
I hope the added revenue from putting on commercials makes up for 100 million people dropping the service immediately and switching to one of their 10 competitors.
I already downgraded the account I had when they price hiked last month.
Sure, generously, that'll be in a new "free" tier to try and pull people in, but that just means they'll charge more for the premium to not have commercials.

A bit late on the bandwagon, but I've finally gotten around to watching Invincible.
! So, what would happen if Superman had a teenage son? And what would happen if he went completely nuts and killed the rest of the Justice League? I guess this is the show that answers that question.
! But yeah, I'm really diggin' it. It's about as great as everyone has led me to believe. -

Married with Children is getting an revival as an animated series.
-
Let me guess it’s going to (if it happens) have the cheapest animation and ugliest character design imaginable.
