They had plenty of time to make a Danny Phantom/Teenager Robot crossover in the past.
Really? Where did you hear that from? And why wasn't I informed about such a crossover potential wasted down the toilet?
Nickelodeon!

I just said that they should have done.
I don't think they even thought about it.
Sorry about that. Growing up with the Jimmy Timmy power hour specials. You would think that both of these franchises would've had gotten one a long time ago… Right? XD
Guess not? Maybe in another universe that episode existed in a separately plane of existence?
The mandela effect!
MLATR had style, charm, and introduced me to the wonderful voice of Janice Kawaye. Loved that show.
Doesn't Disney own Doug now?
I dunno, a lot of the Klasky-Csupo stuff never really lent itself to crossover appeal. The Rugrats had adventures but they were all imaginary, and trying to put them into real situations always seemed a little too weird. Mostly they and their ilk were more grounded in reality with minimal tweaks (one girl talking to animals, just happening to be monsters, relentless slang) to create the premise.
Basically K-C toons stood out because of general quirkiness and one or two outright strange things in their world, not because their world was completely foreign like a lot of the other Nicktoons. CatDog, Rocko, Spongebob; those are all characters so far removed from reality that it's easy to mix them together. Even human characters like Jimmy, Timmy and Rudy can work because they regularly deal with the fantastical and normal everyday issues factor in a lot less. Shows like Hey, Arnold and Doug don't work because their whole premise is basically the regular world. It could work if they were part of the live action stuff and the crazier Nicktoons were piling into their world, but no one is going to accept Arnold as a real person.
In short, the K-C and similar stuff is going to make or break this movie, and I'll be genuinely surprised if they can make it work.
Guh…if Nick wants to be relevant again just throw a ton of money at Jhonen Vasquez, give him more free reign, and call it a day.
Well, here it is
Honestly, looks a lot better than you might think. Could this be the first good film based on a video game?
Seeing these things with limbs is so weird
Geez, all those stars and throwing in Michael Jackson music for the trailer. They're pullin' out all the stops.
Has anyone have seen a commercial for the first Rated R Animated film that's not South Park for once?

Also a trailer to prove that I'm not lying?
That's not the first R-rated animated film. Not even the first R-rated animated film produced in America since the South Park movie. And it looks painfully unfunny.

Not counting anime films that would receive an R rating, such as Akira or Vampire Hunter D or Perfect Blue, and sticking to american films…
Heavy Metal
Heavy Metal 2000
Scanner Darkly
The Haunted World of Super ElBeasto
Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie
American Pop
Howl
Waking Life
Pink FLoyd- The Wall
Resident Evil: Degeneration
Fritz the Cat (that one had an X rating!)
The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat
Coonskin
Family Guy presents the Stewie Griffin story
Tarzoon: Shame of the Jungle
There's more than that but... no, South Park isn't the only one.

Well, it looks adorable at first glance. I need to see more to decide if it's GOOD. And oh my God, PETER DINKLAGE is in this movie?!

Consider that it's made by the Robot Chicken crew. I can't judge it until it comes out.

I know. But it's rare that you ever get an animated film aimed at adults in a once and a two decades later.
Just got back from seeing Hotel Transylvania 2.
Good movie, lots of good comedy, and, yeah, about as good as the first one. If you like the first one, you'll like this one.
Wish Nick Offerman had gotten to do more, but he did have one of the best lines in the movie.

Theres a large difference between an animated movie for adults, and one thats only suitable for adults. this look like a movie for 16 year olds to me.

That's definitely true. But guess which movie is running against it? The Martian! Yup.
Tarzoon: Shame of the Jungle
Wow this really sounds like a porno. Let's see what IMDB has to say:
[hide]@IMDB:
Shame, the ape man of the jungle, is aghast when his woman, June, is kidnapped by a gang of giant penises. They take her to their queen, Bazunga, a bald woman with fourteen breasts. After tangling with a gang of great white hunters, a marauding lion and the Molar Men, Shame sets off to rescue her with only his faithful friend Flicka at his side. He heads for that darkest of areas ….. Bush Country!
[[/quote][/hide]…..well, no comment then.
Minions is now the #10 grossing movie of all time.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/
It'll likely get bumped down come Episode VII, but still, holy crap. I shouldn't be surprised since my local supermarket is literally selling Minions Cheese, but kids sure do love them those gibberish-spouting yellow pills. It might be a triumph of design; the things are pretty dang easy to draw if you're a little kid. Personally I don't mind them, but can't really see the extreme X factor that've made them a worldwide phenomenon. But I'm sure my parents thought the same of all the 90s fads I was into as a kid (Teenage Mutant Ninja what????)
The only proper way to watch the Iron Giant is on the big screen.
The two restored sequences meshed well by the way.

Thats becoming less and less of a big deal. 19 of the top 22 films of all time are from the last five years. Heck, four of the top ten, Jurassic WOrld, Furious 7 and Age of Ulton, and now Minions, were all from this summer.
And Despicable Me 2 made almost a billion and sits at 26, so Minions doing similar is no shock.
Its not terribly surprising, ticket prices are higher and theres a much bigger overseas market now, plus 3D showings (But that fad is passing as it always does). But a movie making it into the billionaires club isn't as huge as it was when Dark Knight or Toy Story 3 or Return of the King did it.
Also, Transformers 4 at once point being the number 4 grossing movie pretty much takes away any credibility box office results ever had.
(Probably nothing is ever going to beat Gone with the Wind in actual tickets sold, though.)

Oh I've never taken Box Office as a sign of credibility (Pirates 4 and Alice in Wonderland, lol), and I know the billionaire club is getting members quicker in recent years…but still, pulling it off isn't exactly a relatively easy or common feat. The top spots are all occupied by James Cameron phenomenoms, sequels, established brands and franchises, and I guess you can say Despicable Me/Minions is an established franchise too, but its just such a young, comparatively small one.
I'm just surprised at how quickly the minion-craze, which it truly is (at least based on my experience with younger relatives), has exploded, to such a degree that a spinoff movie with a 80 million budget featuring the comic relief characters from a 2010 movie can leapfrog over any animated movie in history bar Frozen, including the entire output of Dreamworks and Blue Sky, franchises and all. Even if it'll inevitably get booted down as time goes on, the minions just seem to have achieved incredible resonance with kids at lightspeed; yeah, theres 4 2015 movies in the top 10, but those are the 11th marvel movie, the 7th fast and the furious movie, the first new sequel to one of the most beloved 90s movies in all time in 14 years...and Minions.
It might just be me but I find that so peculiar. Penguins of Madagascar (fun movie btw) didn't manage anything near the same feat.
Thats because despite the number of films it had, no one actually cared about the Madagascar franchise.
@Daz:
but those are the 11th marvel movie,
Avengers 1 is still higher… and Iron Man 3 isn't far behind. But yes, aided by previous films.
Course Spiderman did great out the gate too.
the 7th fast and the furious movie,
Boosted by Paul Walker's death, I'd think, similar to Heath Ledger boosting Dark Knight. The film may or may not be good or great, but actor death drives curiosity on final roles and all.
the first new sequel to one of the most beloved 90s movies in all time in 14 years…
Yeah, I still don't get why new Jurassic Park did that well.
In any event, Star Wars is doubtless going join those ranks this winter, with a new SW film every year for the forseeable future… and Avatar 2, 3 and 4 are coming. Plus an endless stream of Marvel movies, I'll be surprised if Cap 3, Avengers 3 and 4 aren't right up there. So the ranks are going to be even more screwy before long.
But hey, at least the Shrek franchise is no longer relevant.
When I look at "highest grossing" movies I prefer to look at the list where prices have been adjusted for inflation. Because that's what counts, as prices will always be changing.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
Oh, look, Gone With the Wind is still in 1st place.
Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.
Saw clips of the new Sherman and Mr.Peabody show on Jeopardy yesterday…Not a fan of the style or the voices just yet, but have to wait until later to see some episodes
Speaking of box office:
Speaking of box office:
In before a Warner Bros. exec blames the movie's failure on there being an over-saturation of movies adapted from Fairy Tales.

That's embarrassing.
And you see that 20 mil Hotel Transylvania 2 has? That's week 3
The $95 dollar per screen average is particularly hilarious when you realize that's around seven people at current ticket prices.
I actually went to see Hell and Back the other day. (It was ok, certain jokes that weren't funny went on longer than they should have, and became plot points)
Other than me, 2 other couples walked in. within 15 minutes, I was the only one left in the theater. Tho I'd wager that's more the couples had no clue what they were seeing.
i get that the main guy is based on the actor that played him but … this feels... kinda racist

This is weird all around. I couldn't have audio on…But what's with keeping his hand in that pocket?

that's a tic from the actor too, apparently he was disfigured in an accident a few years ago and always keeps it in his pocket.

Even though I could only understand like every one word out of ten, I feel like "stupid" is a better word than "racist."

That's how I felt. The use of Aretha Franklin is kinda off-putting though.
So. Don Bluth is pitching a kickstarter to try and get a Dragon's Lair movie off the ground. Ah ah ah, before you get excited at that prospect…
It's a kickstarter...
to raise 550,000$...
to make a demo reel.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/donbluth/dragons-lair-the-movie
Don Bluth, its cool you're doing a kickstarter to do a PITCH reel for a Dragon's Lair movie but really… couldn't you just show studio execs footage from the game that already exists? And why are you projecting a 70 million budget? Yeah, Disney films can squander that much, and more on CGI films... but super high quality television animation like Avatar can be done at about a million per episode (20 minutes). And your average Ghibli film costs 10-15 million. if you were shooting for a modest 3-5 million (100 minutes of Korra quality animation!) you might actually be able to drum that up on kickstarter without outside investors at all!
But half a million for just a pitch reel? With terrible incentive tiers? And no, you aren't going to singlehandedly launch a resurgence in hand drawn animation... not with Dragon's Lair: The Movie... so don't enthusiastically try to promise people that. I'm not even in your industry and I know what you're trying to do won't work in any way you're proposing! At least the Swat Katz kickstarter would have gotten us actual new episodes if it had gone anywhere.
And all of that is aside from the fact Bluth's track record hasn't been good for oh... 25 years now. Full props to him at the height of his powers, he made some fantastic animated film, but be it studio interference or burn out or old age, he hasn't done anything good in a long time. He's 78, retired in 2002, Anastasia was back in in 1997, andhis last non-Disney ripoff was All Dogs as far back as 89.
(Also, what's the point of a Dragon's Lair movie without all the death scenes?)
Sorry Don, I just can't get at all excited about this.
(Also, what's the point of a Dragon's Lair movie without all the death scenes?)
Something that's just begging to be included as a deleted scenes featurette on a DVD:ninja:.
At least the Swat Katz kickstarter would have gotten us actual new episodes if it had gone anywhere.
Oh hell yeah, Swat Kats!
Okay, that last part killed me.
Po's Noodle dad is going to make me cry again, isn't he?
What animal is that villain? A Gnu?
We were talking about Finding Nemo and its sequel Finding Dory over in the Pixar thread and that reminded me of a movie I own but haven't watched in years.
Shark Tale.
lol I know the reception it gets from the crowd but it's a guilty pleasure of mine. I still can't get over the crazy cast it had.
Will Smith
Angelina Jolie
Martin Scorsese
Robert DeNiro
Jack Black
Renee Zelweger
Katie Couric
Ziggy Marley
And a whole bunch of other folks whose names sound familiar. I even think Missy Elliot did a song for the movie. Such a crazy cast for a terrible reception which just further proves star power does not automatically equal quality.
I think it also proves once again that Robert DeNiro isn't fussy about what movies he picks to make:ninja:
In Shark Tale's defense, CGI animated films were still a new thing at the time. The first couple Pixar films, and Shrek and Antz and… that was it. Signing on for one had a good chance of being good at the time
Oh god, Shark Tale. gag
I also think actors like that see animated films as easy money that won't ruin their image
