This episode was the best.Watched it 5th time now and i wanna see there expresion when they see another beam, after all this i dont think Luffy is going to like beams.
404: ''Admiral Kizaru's Fierce Attack - The Straw Hat Crew's Desperate Situation!''
-
-
Undeniable the animation was brilliant but sacrificed artwork, but i'm not complaining, thought it was nicely paced and kept me in suspense even though i knew the outcome. I liked the Kid+Law vs PX-? filler fight but i'm confused why Kid's abilities don't work on the Pacifista's… They are metal aren't they? I think there needs to be a more in depth explanation about their DF powers.
-
Hey guys with respects to the following scehdule below, what are the specials dealing with?
Detektive stories in medieval times. Luffys the detektive and the rest of the Strawheads have some gimmick roles. Villians are probably goofy versions of the thrillerbark crew.
-
rly liked that episode..the art style was decent and the content also was shocking(when you watch it the first time i assume lol)
who`s the director for this episode??
-
I enjoyed this episode quite a bit, though it's the next episode I'm really looking forward too.
-
Wow i have to agree with you, Raileigh's entrance was Awesome !
But other than that the animation was weird sometimes save for some little bits like Zorro's "accident", the Bear fighting and Rai stopping Kizaru's teleportation. -
they are giving the Kidd and Law fans what they want. but still I wonder if they got away
-
Nope, with shows with small budgets that get produced on a weekly basis like One Piece or Naruto you just cant.
Keep in mind that 99% of the time One Piece animation SUCKS ASS. Its so limited and stiff you may as well just call it a slide-show.
If you're so sure you can have both detailed art AND good animation in shows like these, then may I ask you to provide some examples? Video clips only because I dont usually watch the One Piece anime except for godly-animated episodes like thisWait so they can like blow the budget for good art and pour it all into animation giving us great animation and poor art but for some magical reason, they can't transfer the money they would have put in for animation into art giving us good art and animation? Yeah, I think you misunderstood something.
-
Please, can we knock it off? Honestly, we can never resolve this thing because people are always going to have different taste. I mean, personally I LOVE the way Tate draws the characters, not animates, draws. He has a great handle on anatomy and the characters are usually very on model. So when I watch a Tate episode I feel like I'm getting both good art AND animation. But this is obviously not the case for everyone, and I don't see the point in arguing about it anymore.
-
^agreed. I'd much rather watch something moving fluidly than a detailed still image. I'd read the manga for that. And as people have said before. Tate's animation captures the speed of the scenes in OP. Watching characters jump, twirl, fight, dash, etc… in fluid, expressionate ways is one of the more entertaining things about anime for me. There have been many series that have beautiful artwork, but just end up feeling empty by everything looking "too perfect".
Gurren Lagann and Dead Leaves used a similar style of animation to Tate (you can argue this against me, but it's what I'm going by) of animation against artwork that really paid off (the art was pretty good for those two btw... probably due to higher budgets).
edit: here are two interesting videos with action scenes done by him:
BHg4b0UEwNM
0pRwLA81B94seriously, how can you not be pumped by those sequences?
-
Y'know, after watching this animated and going back to check on the manga it looks more like Rayleigh simply used his sword to disrupt Kizaru's laser to stop him from warping rather than using the magical H-word.
Not that that's going to convince anyone, but might as well put that out there.
As for the art, well, as I said, it's closer to Oda's style than most of the other stuff, and we get some awesomely animated action sequences, so it's a win-win for me.

I'd rather see a nice balance of both.
-
you've said that. But to do that costs lots of money. Maybe Toei will open a donation drive so you can drop some of you cash towards it.
-
WOOOOHOOOO, that sword vs lightsaber fight was AWESOME. Can't wait for next weeks episode…saw wikipedia the other day and I found out the next 2 episodes after the disappearing episode is filler, then it's Amazon Island
-

No it doesn't. Just give the money that would have made the great animation to the art and settle for good art and animation rather than excellent animation and poor art. Hence the balance.
-

That's what I had originally assumed. The metal of the sword would reflect the light, stopping Kizaru's transportation.
-
-
No, this is ''Luffy as a detective in feudal Japan'', not a mob boss.
I really think they should branch out with these elsewords. I'd like to see something where they're all street punks in modern day urban Japan or something similar. It could be fun.

It was a sword imbued with Haki:blink:
-
Well, I'm sure everyone knows that if you shine a flashlight at a wall and then stick your hand in front of it the beam will stop short.
But of course, everything in the series now has to tie into the magical H-word, doesn't it?

Dude, Brook, hit Kizaru with his sword many times, it just went through him. When Rayleigh attacked Kizaru with his sword, he got a cut on his face. And Kizaru's sword neither melted nor went through Rayleigh's sword when they fought.
It was a sword imbued with Haki.
-
Surely Rayleigh's sandals can't reflect light.
-
Kizaru was just standing there then. He wasn't beaming himself anywhere.
Look, I'm only really arguing this because I am sick of the the magical H-word becoming the end-all be-all explanation for everything, even stuff that has happened in the past. We should really wait until Oda decides to reveal more, because all that the magical-H word has been proven to do so far is knock out the weak-willed and give projectiles more punch. It really takes all the fun out of speculation and is the least creative option at this point.
I'm done arguing with this.

i'm sure it's a little more complicated than that.
But enough of this. To each his own.
Tate's stuff is always appreciated by me.
-
What an epic episode! I never really got how exhausted and desperate the situation was in the manga but it was portrayed excellently in the episode. Also Kid and Law fighting the PX was awesome, nice to see extra stuff in the anime. Rayleigh's enterance was one of the best things ever!
The only issue I had was some of the animation, particularly Chopper and Usopp's nose! -
Rayleigh's enterance was one of the best things ever!
I came in here to say just that…. that entrance was phenomenal
-
I put together the 3.5 seconds of Rayleigh blocking Kizaru's kick as a contact sheet.
At 24 frames/sec this makes 84 frames. Each row is 1/4 of a second.
This stands out to me as one of the most detailed and fluid bits of animation in the series.
From the perspective of Zoro about to be crushed under foot, to the spins and twirls of Rayeigh, wow.
blammo. many folks had to care a bunch to do this so right. -
Nice one man, that's pretty awesome.
-
Great job, Flyingeye.
Wow, that's pretty impressed, must have wasted them a lot of effort and time for this episode :)
Also, Ulrilra, its a shame you don't like this type of animation, because you're missing out the orgmasm we had in Rayleigh's entrance.
Me, personally, I love this style, If I wanted to see the art, why would I go watch the Anime? Anime is Animation, Manga is Art, as simple as that.
-
Wait, did I just see Rayleigh roll over in mid air?! The hell?! I thought Shiki was supposed to be the ''Flying Pirate''.
-
The way he moves is ghostly
-
@Thousand:
When Rayleigh attacked Kizaru with his sword, he got a cut on his face.
Is it just me or did the anime fail to bring appropriate focus on the fact that this happened? The first time I watched the episode I was looking for this scene, and completely missed it. To me, this was a pretty important happening and I felt like the anime didn't do it justice. Anyone else feel this way? or Am I just getting too old, and it's time for some bifocals…
-
Wait, did I just see Rayleigh roll over in mid air?! The hell?! I thought Shiki was supposed to be the ''Flying Pirate''.
The manga is the only truth ;)
-
Well, unlike the other chauvinists I see around here, I view the anime as supplementary material to the manga, especially since Oda and Toei often get together to work things out these days, except when it does something that outright contriducts the manga, like Zoro's chain-cutting in Warship Island.
.
-
The anime imo ruined Law. Look at how he jumps…. Reminds me somehow of gai senseis legendary anime fight...
-
-
^ Wow thats so damn lazy. One thing I hate about all anime. They reuse the same animation for convenience.
–-
Great post flyingeye, always love to see frame by frame breakdowns like that.
Apart from a few misfiring forced perspectives and choppy walk (run?) cycles, I thought this was a great episode, with lots of loose fluid action.
-
f***cking awesome episode, movie 6 style never failed to shake the hell out of my bones! Rayleigh canceling yata no kagami was nicely animated there.
-
Rayleigh made quite the entrance :ninja:
-
A couple of pages ago I saw someone letting us in on some upcoming filler. I was so ecstatic, believing in my heart that there would be an abundance of filler to make all of our dreams come true. Instead… there's only two. Damn. Something tells me, however, that at this rate even filler won't save this series from itself now compared to what it once was. I always love to wait until the end (so far away) to judge anything, nevertheless.
Oh yeah.
ONE PIECE 404 NOT FOUND
Anyway, overall, yeah, stuff was amazingly acted out. Dear god, though... Chopper. Robin was sort of similarly bad, though I quite liked how freaked out she was by being unable to continue Zoro's movement. It didn't seem faked, or 'expected' like how so many SHs' reactions are these days.
-
Damn! I can't wait to see 405! Hopefully they use dramatic Music for the End. That would be soooo awesome
-
405 could potentially be one of the best episodes ever…
-
405 could potentially be one of the best episodes ever…
As well as is has the potential to be the most disappointing one considering the high expecations. Whatever it is this is one of the episodes the entire anime will later be judged on.

Yeah I agree… BUT COME ON BE AWESOME!!
-
I hope they use the second part of the ''Grand Line: Cold'' track for the ending when Luffy's alone. It's a very depressing-sounding piece that I feel would be very appropriate.
About a minute into the track is the part I'm talking about.

I see I'm not the only one in high anticipation of the next episode of One Piece. 405 could possibly be thee most talked about episode of One Piece. Ever!
[hide]This is just in case I happen to talk about spoilers for 405.
[hide]I normally don't care much for artwork vs. animation, but for this episode, I think I'd prefer great artwork vs. animation, because I really want to see the details in the facial expressions of the SH crew. I mean, I could feel the agony and the desperation from all of them in their last minutes of life. Chilling stuff. I really hope the anime brings this through into the episode.[/hide][/hide] -

In my case, those expectations were completely crushed once I learned that the event wasn't in this episode. Seriously, how can chapter 513 possibly work as a full episode on its own?
-
LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGGG recap, the ''real'' conclusion to Law and Kid's fight, moving the Sabaody stuff with Duval and the Celestial Dragons in 514 forward, possible flashbacks at the end… Also, if the preview image on the Fuji site is any indication, Luffy does seem to try to put up more of a fight against Kuma.
It'll be tough either way, but if they could stretch out 485, they could probably do it here too.
-
This is my biggest concern with this episode. It really isn't an episode to be drawn out.
It could really change the dynamic of the scenes in this ep. -
@Vegard:
…Seriously, how can chapter 513 possibly work as a full episode on its own?
By throwing in some Oyabun filler scenes perhaps? :ninja:
