Man, you guys are HARSH!! I think BOTH Bonney's look GREAT, and Both Perona's look great. Sometimes people have their friends dress up in cosplays of characters they dont' even know, so they have no clue how to pose. Probably, this is not the case. Sometimes people are shy, or just want to cosplay a cute character, why on earth anyone would think that Bonney is CUTE is beyond me, I love her and all, but …well...she's 'ATTRACTIVE' but I dunno about cute xDD

I primarily just get sick of people who cosplay and pose the same and use the same expression in EVERY costume. It's like.. wtf?? Don't you have any other expressions? I may not be the best cosplayer, I'm not the tallest OR the thinnist, but by god, NO ONE will EVER be able to say any of that shit about me, if nothing else, I'm expressive as HELL and get into character whenever I can. I don't really care if I look cute or not, I mean..I never cosplay cute characters xD

But I can completely understand if someone wants to take good pictures of their cosplays to show off the costume, and they don't wanna look unflattering in EVERY picture. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I get more offended by weeaboo fangirls who are HYPER AS HELL and scream at the top of their lungs trying to be IN CHARACTER the entire time they're cosplaying..it's just.. SCARY and ANNOYING =_=;;

I stepped back willingly from being the head of organizing the fandom around here .. It's gotten full of the scariest fangirls I've ever seen. I'm glad I've got enough sane friends who cosplay it to hang out with, cuz I don't want to go near the main group anymore >__> That and some of them got turned against me by someone I thought was my friend. I mean, I fucking HELP PAY FOR HER DAMN BUS TICKET (which she did not pay for, my other friend paid the rest of it), drove her around that weekend, and she has the NERVE to think I would try to backstab her? Fuck that DX
Wanna know why? Because a bunch of people came up to me complaining about the lewd (lolpaulie XD), risque, and explicit behavior people have been doing OUT IN THE OPEN in the middle of the conventions (making out, tackle glomping,, tackle make-outs, kissing people without permission, dry humping, just to name a few). Even though I wasn't heading the shoot at this particular con everyone always comes to me to bitch about it.

Then, in a TOTALLY MATURE and respectful posts, I asked if people would kindly refrain from such actions during the public gathering, as it was really giving our fandom a bad name and a lot of it was totally innapropriate to be done out in the open in the middle of the con. Also suggested maybe a late night (NC-17) shoot where they could do the sexy crack shenanigans not out in the middle of the open (and they're going to do at 6:30 PM at A-Kon… what the HELLLLLLLLL)

And what does it get me? Well actually the majority agreed, but the people who were taking charge got pissed at me thinking I was trying to take it over, when nothing in my post suggested that, I just listed some innocent suggestions for people to stop acting like perverted shitheads and keep our fandom a little more respectable.

We had AFest mad at us because our group was so large and disorganized that it had to be moved to a panel room to get people out of the con areas (because we couldn't stay outside, was like 95 degrees out DX), and we're mostly likely going to need those large panel spaces in the future to organize the shoots, we don't need more chaos by the fandom being soured and the conventions not wanting to help us out there.

TL;DR: Insane make-out, dry humping Hetalia fangirls really piss me off.

Anyways, back on the One Piece topic.

Around here, there's no such thing as 'Too many Law's or Bonney's'. At Akon last year, there was only ONE Bonney, and ONE Law,and I know both of them. There may have been some extra Mugiwara walking around, but that's it. GUARANTEED if you cosplay someone outside the Mugiwara..you won't have ANYONE cloning you, you just WON'T. NO ONE IN TEXAS cosplays One Piece. My few friends do, and there MAY be some outside that, but it's NOTHING compared to what you guys get in CA, I'm soo jealous ;_;

It is quite easy to pull off an air of snottery for photos. The Bonney cossers don't have to be eating 24/7 for poses. You know what you'll be cosplaying, so it shouldn't be hard to take a quick moment to think of an attitude of sorts..even while applying the makeup for the char. Hell, there's even tutorials and panels on posing alone!

and what's this about hetalia cosplayers running around and glomping, and dry humping random people! They dare try to do that to me, they're gonna get a nasty slap in the face. WTF is wrong with people. What happened to personal space and common decency.

Yeah I don't think people should have to not have suggestive yaoi pictures, or get mad and huffy about that. Hetalia is all about the yaoi, deal with it. But you can do cute, cracky, and fun poses without the sucking face and dry humping.

That second Bonney is FANTASTIC!!! I love the color of her wig, her whole costume is freaking amazing! O_O Also yes, that second Perona looks scarily like the anime version which is also quite awesome.

I'm honestly very glad I'm not cosplaying hetalia if that kind of stuff is going on D: I mean I'm ALL for crack pairings and pictures but I've NEVER been kissed on the lips by another human being and if someone jumped up and did that randomly I'd probably go in shock and be traumatized Dx;

I have NOTHING against like all the yaoi or anything but some people take it WAY TOO FAR. Luckily with the cosplay my sis and I have planned at a-Kon nobody will give a shit anyways cause they won't know who we are (because it's OP related xDD )

also… I don't see ANYTHING wrong with those Peronas.... I meant there's pictures floating around of me that I don't look in characters ... xD I know it would be better if they were twisting their faces or making better poses or what not but like others already said... sometimes people are shy? or their friends designated them to cosplay a character they don't know at all? I dunno... but those Peronas are all pretty awesome cosplay/costume wise O.O

There's enough of us in the cosplay coalition to have our own Hetalia gatherings/shoots without the insanity, I'm not sad at all to not be apart of the larger group anymore.

Hetalia fans are WORSE than the Narutards, they're in bigger forces and with MUCH MORE YAOI than you can shake a stick at. I'm not against Yaoi or anything, but..damn, there is a ton of it with those fans x_x;

The whole series is a slashfest, so the overabundance of yaoi is not surprising. It's turning into the next Kingdom Hearts because the fanbase, about halfway through last year tuned mostly in to 14-15 year olds (the prime age of insane yaoi fangirldom). Which is only going to get worse with the funimation dub/DVDS being released later in the year. I have a feeling I won't cosplay this much at all by next year at conventions, or else I get rabid fangirls tackle glomping me down.

And Bonney, Well… the best Bonney Cosplayer i met had this nicest smile, until someone took her picture...then BANG she got a look like she would tear your face off, throw ketchup on it and woof it down if ya ticked her off.

Most OP characters have gianormous mouths. I think it would be pretty upsetting to see someone with a mouth that wide in real life ^_^;; Don't worry about it!

Cosplay pervs, both on these boards and at actual conventions. Joke posting about "post pics" or not, it gets old fast. And seeing those photographers in real life just make me uncomfortable.

As a guy, I've taking my share of pics of female cosplayers wearing sexy outfits. But I'm not going to go out of my way to take lewd shots, which probably would make them uncomfortable as well.

Some, not all, "OFFICIAL" cosplay items. Things like Naruto headbands and Bleach captain patches or whatever, sure. Toy DBZ scouters and that one toy log pose, okay fine. Even some of the jewelry items, like Vongola rings, okay. But it's becoming kind of disheartening that some company is selling "official" cosplay items that look terrible (to me) and are nowhere near official. If it's really official, would it be that cheap? There are at least 3 different Urahara bucket hats (from Bleach) that I've seen out there, along with at least 2 different Ichigo hollow masks. And same applies to the "official" Luffy cosplay strawhat that's colored golden yellow. If you're happy with them, it's fine, my gripe isn't with you. It's with the companies that are falsely advertising that they're licensed cosplay items.

*Note: There are actually two licensed Luffy strawhats that are out there. One is from the Shonen Jump Shop in Japan. Another is a new hat made by Bandai's clothing line in Japan as well. They also have Trafalgar Law shirts.

As of now, I still have yet to find a strawhat that doesn't look to floppy or femmy to be a mans hat. Not to caring on the gold thing more than the does it look right/fit my head and not make me look stupid category for Younger Shanks cosplay...

I'm pretty sure I have one of those bright ass yellow Luffy hats u___u but I did buy a hat at a store that looks more like a natural straw color xD Gonna use that… doesn't make me look like I have a giant head xDD But I definitely get sick of seeing official merchandise that is totally bootleg and awful x_x

@Coral: I know. I don't mind the bootleg cosplay items as long as they're labeled as that: unofficial cosplay merchandise. It's when a company states that it's the "OFFICIAL" one to suck up our poor hard-earned money because we don't know any better is when it irks me.

Coming from an Indiana Jones gear forum, we've had huge discussions about how the OFFICIAL, licensed Indy hat from Dorfman Pacific looks terrible when put side-by-side to movie stills and promo shots. THey look nothing alike, but this company got the official license. I just ordered my final fedora today (an Indy one), and the hatmaker gets the same hat bodies that the hatmaker of the 4th Indiana Jones movie got his from. So I'm very excited about getting it in 5 months. Through their own thorough research, they've come up with nearly identical hatblocks to shape their Indy fedoras. So a childhood fantasy of mine will finally come true.

@Carlston: This hat right here is the closest I've been able to find to an actual straw hat that fits my fat-ass head. So if you have a hat size that's roughly 60cm, 23 1/2 inches, or a size 7 1/2 baseball cap size, this should do fine. You'll have to cut the rolled portion of the brim, but it has a decent body, the brim holds up real well even after cutting it (you can add some clear glue to the brim to prevent the straw from fraying), has a hat band so the size won't become smaller after putting in the hat ribbon, and is a natural straw color. I'd post a picture, but when cutting the brim, I was accidentally following the spiral, so I cut into it too much. $20 down the drain. :sad: Planning to get one after convention season so I don't have to keep borrowing iroha or Kaizoku-Syn's official Jump Shop strawhat (which doesn't fit my head at all; curse you small Japanese heads!).

Someone was selling the brightass yellow Luffy hats at ACen and after Friday a good chunk of con goers were wearing them… I want to wish they were OP fans but I'm sure most of them didn't know anything about OP past Luffy D:

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the neon yellow Luffy hat xD I think it's kinda adorable..I mean.. c'mon o_o has ANYONE ever really made their Luffy hat from scratch? Like..seriously…

The only thing that bothers me is if someone thinks cause they're wearing a Luffy hat or a Naruto headband that they're 'cosplaying'. if they're not in an actual costume, I don't consider it cosplay. But since it's not harming anyone, i don't really see a problem with it ?

I don't see the problem with the hat itself, especially if you're using it to complete your Luffy/Shanks cosplay. That's fine. My problem is with the company and vendors that call it official. It's like buying a POP figure online only to receive it and it's a bootleg. Sure some people will be happy with it, but there would be a lot of people who would be upset because the seller called it official.

Then again with what Shanks gave Luffy and the current animated dome I wonder if Oda noticed wtf is up with the hat…it's morphing into something else.

Best hat I ever seen was MikeyDPirate...got a few pics with it at AM. That was one of the few if not the best hat I've seen.

Wigless/Hair-cut-less cosplay is my biggest pet peeve. Hair is one of the most important distinguishing traits in anime because so many shows have very similar facial structure between characters. I understand wigs are expensive, and not everyone can dye their hair orange, but I still think it's an important aspect and one should at least try.

I saw an L at Otakon that was at a table full of cupcakes and candy… that L was AMAZING u I'm just saying that most people cosplay L because it's easy... and then they don't really look good. There are some really amazing L's out there too... I just get annoyed by all the half assed ones.

Got to admit it is easier to just dye and style my hair for Sir Croc. The bangs are tricky at time as they change up a lot, and length from scene to scene heh…but not art is perfect. But I agree if your zoro and you have 3 foot black hair....your not fitting the role.

The policy of re-wearing cosplay:
Obviously, we put a lot of time, money, and effort into cosplay. There are some people who put A LOT of time, money, and effort beyond most people's sanity point. We're all entitled to wear these things more than once, doubly so if people like them and they're good. What I want to know is, when is it a good time to give one costume a break? Spreading out one costume over the course of a few cons in a row? Sure, perfectly reasonable. Wearing the same costume at the same convention or two for a few years in a row? Sure, it'll help people recognize you. But wearing the same costume, multiple days to the same convention, over the course of many years... It might be time to branch out and try something new. Granted, spending a lot of money and time on one costume makes it perfectly reasonable to wear it a few times, but when's a good time to stop? I'm not sure I want to be known only as "You're that [insert one character] cosplayer!" Luckily, most of the people on these boards have or would like to do multiple cosplay, so please don't feel threatened by this statement. When do you guys think is a good time to give a costume a break for a bit?

Recycled masquerade skits–
Not everyone competes in the masquerade at their conventions, and not everyone watches them either. However, how do you guys feel about a skit that was performed at one convention you went to earlier, yet performed again by the same people at a convention you attended at a later date? Granted, I'm a bit hypocritical about this, because if the skit is good, I'd definitely like to see it again live. Case in point, there was a skit called Super Yaoi Bros, and it was performed at both Fanime and AX this year. It was a hilarious skit, and I definitely would've enjoyed seeing it live again. Because if something is a crowd pleaser at one place, it might be even more of a crowd pleaser at another convention. Also, there's a whole slew of new audience members that haven't attended both of those conventions, so it makes sense. But there are some cringe-worthy skits out there, especially skits that involve a SPECIFIC anime convention, that probably shouldn't be performed again. But that's just my opinion though, and maybe I'm in the minority. What do you guys think about a recycled skit?

can't comment on the skits, but your giving it too much thought. do what you want. charli's been wearing her austria to death, but it's cute, cause that's kinda her thing now. that and her lucci. I'm certainly gonna wear some of my cosplays over. spent too much money and time to let them collect dust. plus, unless i find something cannon to make, i don't wanna make another cosplay for a while.

Maybe it's cause it's happened at soo many cons here in Oklahoma, but it seems like some people LIKE to re-wear the same horrifically made shitty costume over and over again thinking it's the most amazing thing EVER. Okay..I get it, some people aren't made of money, hell, even some that are can't afford to have about 10-15 new costumes a year, I sure as HELL can't x_x I through together about 5 costumes for a group, funding them mind you, and went broke MANY times, so yes. Cosplay is EXPENSIVE, especailly if you're helping your friend with costumes by buying stuff for them.

Some people cannot afford it, thus, wearing the same thing multiple times…during the same weekend...I guess that's my main annoyance is the 'same weekend' thing, but then again, I've gone to SOO few cons over the last 2-3 years that I haven't run into this problem =_=

Okay..just thought of maybe the REAL reason I'm on here right now talking about cosplay costumes...

There's someone that I, yes..I..made a costume for. He's an old 'ex' friend whom my sis and I don't speak to anymore thanks to a falling out that envolved A-kon several years back. To cut to the chase, he continued to wear a costume that I made for him for MANY cons after that..HONESTLY??? That.. is SOO TACKY.. I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER wear something that someone else made for me whom I'm not friends with anymore, it would make me feel DISGUSTING, and I would NEVER want to give them the satisfaction that I'm wearing their crap, EVER. Just.. ick..ick DX!!! I get maybe he just.. LIKED the costume, but still, it was just tacky to continuously WEAR it as your only costume.

Okay..guess I'm gonna stop bitching now xD

But there are some cringe-worthy skits out there, especially skits that involve a SPECIFIC anime convention, that probably shouldn't be performed again. But that's just my opinion though, and maybe I'm in the minority. What do you guys think about a recycled skit?

Skits? Rule of Comedy is three.

Outfits? None. As heck I will wear Shanks as I am tweaking the outfit constantly.

Crocodile? I put heart and soul and a butt load of cash into it…

And most importantly they are WHO I want to cosplay. If you don't connect to a character why cosplay them?

But like me? I like to grow a beard, trim and do Shanks on a Friday, then shave clean do my other outfits. Just mix it up...but Shanks tends to be the "I just drove a while, this is a my comfy outift...."

Nah, I'll wear something more than once, just because it would be a different location each time and plus, I don't have the money to go to so many cons so spacing out the wearing of cosplays is never an issue. There are some that I won't wear again simply because I figure out they are a pain in the ass and frankly, I don't have the desire to cosplay men anymore. The only one I'd consider doing anytime soon/later is Nuriko (I watched Fushigi Yuugi today lol) I'd love to wear an awesome Chinese outfit, they look comfortable.

If I worked so hard on something I'd definitely wear it to other conventions, but sometimes I'm reluctant to wear the same thing to the same con 2 years in a row… I dunno why I'm just afraid it would be something looked down upon even though when I see other people do it, I'm SO DAMN EXCITED Dx!

Also, I agree with someone wearing the same costume at EVERY SINGLE CON year after year after year after year, all convention... I mean D: I try to make something new for every con, that's just me! But sometimes you see the SAME LUFFY all the time, wearing the SAME costume you saw them in like 3 years ago... and it's THE SAME COSTUMES... I mean I cosplay Luffy... and I like to do different outfits D:

I KNOW some people can't afford cosplay/to commission people/or in general can't sew or don't care if they wear the same thing over and over again to cons as long as they enjoy it but I think you guys know what I mean xD it's usually that inaccurate Luffy or cosplayer that doesn't really look good over and over and over again...

maybe I am just a retard D: But I don't think there's anything wrong wearing a cosplay more than once x3 I wanna fix Drake and Sarquiss and wear them again even ;__;

I wash what I can of costumes, I've washed my Movie 10 gay cowboy Sanji outfit like.. 4 times or so.. I mean.. it's easily washable, and I sure as hell know I've got to be stinking after wearing the long sleeved pink shirt with the red blazer. Ohh Oda and your idiotic fashion sense.

Ahh Chichiri, one of my other favorite characters!! I swear, the outfits in that show look so fun to make.

LOL well, it probably is something that Oda has for real, or one of his friends has, he tends to take inspiration from his own wardrobe apparently!

My general rule is wear a costume at least twice, preferably at different cons. Stuff that I'm really proud of, I want to wear more. Stuff that I'm not so invested in, once is fine. Comfortable/convenient costumes I usually wear a few times just because they're easy to deal with. Of course, some of my older stuff I could rewear, but I'd want to redo bits since I know so much more now than I did when I made it. So I keep that stuff around just in case, but it's semi-retired.

For skits, once is enough. Repeating a skit is not creative or challenging, and it's bad form particularly if you've won a major prize with it at another con. Maybe if it were upgraded somehow or changed, but using the same costumes or theme concept, then it feels like something "new" and not just a rehash. A lot of people around here go to the same cons, so while a 2nd showing of the same thing may be "new" to some people, it won't be for those who saw it the first time. And you want to question yourself - is this so good that people will enjoy it again? What can be done to impress someone who's already seen it? So changing things up is a good way of keeping it entertaining for all. And it's a chance to improve upon what you did before, to be more ambitious.

I agree with Kate^ on the skits part.

For me, I'm not particularly invested in any of my costumes so far, so I can't comment on that (much). If I had a really good costume, then I'd definitely want to re-wear it at LEAST once, but if it was a rushed costume - which is kinda like ALL my costumes - then it's usually a no-go. Unless I improve it somehow, but something tells me that my costumes aren't exactly things I can just add things onto to make it better. I would have to re-make it from scratch, since it's usually a pattern problem hahaha :U

I agree that if you spent a lot of time/money/effort on a costume, you should definitely wear it more than once. I'll be dragging my Eureka along to cons for a while.

Our group's policy: If you've worn the costume for a full day or multiple days at a previous con, only wear it for half a day or to an event at later cons. Unless you're planning a photo shoot or meeting up with a group, you probably shouldn't wear the same character all day, all weekend.

My personal peeve: People who dress up but aren't in character. If you don't know your character's personality or aren't willing to act it out, why choose them? I've seen lackluster costumes that were vastly improved because the wearer roleplayed his/her character to a tee.
The whole experience just seems incomplete if you aren't adopting your role.

ya, i seen a gumshoe cosplayer at anime north that was just quiet and unemotional and he sucked, even though he looked the part so well. On the other hand, the 2 gumshoes at akon were not perfect by any means, but they were so in character, they were great!
