They've made him more in line to what he's like in DBZ - he didn't have any real appearances outside of the first few episodes.

Funny how they decided to do this movie now since it takes place after Dende becomes Earth's guardian, and how they worked it into a nice little joke at the end.
Actually this movie did come out before Dende was promoted to being the God of Earth… Heck, the movie actually came out several months before it happened in the manga!

Actually, I'd swear Picollo is NOT supposed to be fused with Kami yet in this movie.
Otherwise, as it's been said, he would've curbstomped Cooler, and yet he gets his ass handed to him against one (in a scene they skiped in here).

Yes, Dende was God in the movie, but not in the manga.
And Piccolo isn't fused with Kami. That would make the robots unbelievably strong. -

I've never seen the actual movie for this. Butttt it doesn't look like I missed out on anything. This looks like one of the worse DB movies and that's saying something…
It's pretty decent in context of when it came out. Vegeta's entrance, transformation into Super Saiyan, (Both things that weren't common at the time) the actual fights, and the reveal of the army of Coolers were all really awesome "oh shit" moments (back when going Super was still new.) Abridged played it for comedy so that took all the drama right out. They didn't do anything with Goku and Coolers instant transmission fight, for instance, and they seriously overplayed Cooler's brother issues which… he doesn't have at all originally.
It's a much better movie when Vegeta helping out, and going Super, aren't things you've seen a million times.
The Android and Broly movies are going to suffer similar problems since the big gimmicks of those are "now there's THREE Super Saiyains!" followed by "FOUR super saiyans! And a fused namekian! Against the REAL Super Saiyan!" and thats a large part of thrill and novelty of the movies. Once going Super becomes a complete joke in Buu saga movies 4-9 all suffer from pushing that point. (Movie 4 was ALMOST Super... and Movie 9 is pushing Gohan's Super 2 as the big thing.) but the overall quality varies.
I know the movie timelines aren't supposed to make sense with the main series but what's with Piccolo already fused with Kami at that point? He would've been stronger than both Goku and Vegeta. I guess TFS just wanted to keep consistency with the episode they're currently on.
Keeping it to their series timeline. Next movie is supposed to take place during the android training too. In the movie Piccollo wasn't fused with Kami yet. But he's funnier with voices in his head.
This one had very little to do with the actual tone of the original movie, they just made it straight up goofy. As they are apt to do.

Last few episodes are basically setup for cell actually showing up, so in this ep they were allowed to get away with a lot of stuff with cell such as cutting his backstory into its most essential details

I like this take on Cell. He's fun, and I love his carefree attitude. At this point of the story he's vulnerable, yet evil and menacing, and I love how he doesn't waver in the face of nearly getting his ass kicked.
..which makes me wonder how they'll handle his other forms. The "next two Cells" don't take threats very well at all. I look forward to it!

I somehow missed the plot point when I originally watched it that Cell was made form the DNA of most of the main characters. Maybe I caught it at first and just forgot it while I was busy being angry that CN was re-airing the Cell saga for the millionth time.

Oh wow was this funny.
Personal favorites of mine would have to be the cyborgs' interaction when they're broken down (For obvious reasons) and the stinger with Vegeta at the end.

That would open up some HYSTERICAL options for his interactions with Vegeta. Like, off the top of my head, they could make Second form Cell have Nappa's voice exactly, play it up for Comedy that Vegeta REALLY doesn't like it, then when Vegeta does his stupid "I'mma let you get perfect… just becuz lol" thing, they can have it be like "... Please let me become perfect?" "And why the hell would I do that?" "... I won't sound like Nappa anymore." "... I'll help you find 18..."

This needs to happen. The amount of "shut up Nappas" that will be said while Super Vegeta is kicking his ass would be staggering.

I was more or less speaking in regards to Freeza's debut episode (Abridged 14) vs. Cell's debut episode, with Freeza having a much stronger character performance (keeping a mental list of how many times he's heard various heroic Stock Phrases before & the "baby seal movie scene" with Zarbon, for instance) than Cell's DudeBro persona.
Not saying that Cell is horrible at all, he's fantastic, just that to me, Freeza had more of an amusing impact in his first episode than Cell.

Uhg, I loathe the Cell Games. Goku toying with cell, then the senzu bean, then gohan fighting even if he didn't want to, then ssj2, Goku "oh, let me allow you to live Picolo/Vegeta/GinyuForce/Frieza" saying that he should finish off cell.
There's a kai rerun in the tv.. I still hate the new dub voices.
