@RobbyBevard:
I think it had more to do with Goku horrendously outclassing him in the course of a month and becoming a super saiyan. Coupled with the promise that Goku was still alive and out there to fight later.
I never really sat well with this. For example, he was going to wish for immortality in the bid to become the strongest. But once freiza is dead, he just gives up on the idea. Or using the dragon for just about anything, when he went all the way to earth and namek over the period of a few years, and then gives up on it when all the obstacles in front of him are taken away.
Less to do with Bulma… until later anyway.
I'm not really sure when she had him under her thumb. A lot of his interaction was intentionally done behind closed doors, which left their relationship a bit of a mystery until trunks became a bit older. I think he really took interest when he saw his son was capable of being a super saiyan, but i could well be wrong on this.
Well over a year between the end of Namek and Goku coming back, followed by another 3 years of training for the androids, and he was still an ass then… plus two years with Trunks in the room of spirit and time... followed by a humbling by Cell, Trunk's death, Goku's sacrifice and Gohan surpassing him... and then a 7 year time skip till Buu... and even THEN he was STILL an ass... that had a speech about his family after having turned evil and given up his life with no chance of reincarnation.
Vegeta was always an asshole. But that doesn't mean he was evil throughout it either. But its hard to figure out when he stopped this, or began to have a sense of morality. Possibly the moment he began relying on others instead of letting his pride prevent him from that. Or when he wore the pink shirt. hehe
So, 12 years between "Kill everyone on earth because Goku might be my equal" and "turn evil and allow everyone on earth to be killed because Goku is my superior". Not nearly as much change as you think, especially given the entire time his main focus was Goku. Sure Bulma helped, but she wasn't what kept him from blowing up the planet.
I think their is more to it than having an obsession with goku, or becoming a father. But its something that cant really be quantified. His personality kind of makes him a little hard to read. For example he was happy to kill Nappa and hear radidz die, yet harps on about him and goku being one of the few remaining saiyans. And I dont even know where to start with his brother showing up. That was just terrible.
1)Spirit bomb is the dub name. The genki dama just means "energy sphere". It has nothing to do with spirits or souls or anything. "Spirit bomb" is actually one of Yamcha's moves.
But they aren't the same I assume. One is from Yamchas own energy, while the other is a collective of everyone elses (including natural energy from nature)
- The one against Vegeta sucked because Goku was hit while gathering the energy and it dispersed and while lying on the ground broken he was able to summon a hanfdul of it back… not because the inner good of Vegeta let him survive. And wiping the evil out of him to give a clean slate is lame storytelling... the series is consequence free enough with the Dragonballs undoing damage without reducing what redemptive arc there is.
Remember Im not saying this is a theory, but something I would have liked to have seen happen, if not just to expand on the attack in the first place. I don't really see it having a negative effect on the story, or come close to the other holes or issues we've all had with it.
Piccollo can't get near the attack either, btw.
Thats knew to me. I assume it is in the earlier arcs, and not long after he became bonded with gohan, or fused with Nail.
Earlier in the series there was also the devilman attack that exploded your heart if there was any evil… and riding on kintoun.
I still have the issue. lol Something about the devil in spandex stopped me from ever taking his attack seriously.
Having a pure heart was a thing before that attack came up.
Not to mention piccolo's speech to vegeta when he is about to make his sacrifice. Or the Majin seal being shown later on. I just think the series had room for more
