Prediction: Artificial Human (Yeah) 16 will speak in a robot voice, and fools 17 and 18. Then later he reveals himself to be even more like a 90s teenager.
It's the TeamFourStar Thread with DBZ Abridged and Pokemon things
-
-
Excellent episode. Fourstar is at their best when they are telling the story with a comedic edge that they are best at. Not the sorta self parody and old style of abridging that was the old hat.
-
@The:
Good times. Vegeta and Trunks act was hilarious.
And lol at the anime inserting a totally useless Gero/Krillin scene
When you watch the filler it becomes very apparent Toei doesn't like Krillin or Yamcha at all. But of course, Yamcha is Yamcha.
Why does yajirobe go to live with Korin? Is that EVER explained?
-
He doesn't have a home.
-
Why does yajirobe go to live with Korin? Is that EVER explained?
Toriyama didn't know what to do with him. Yajirobe was just a throw away character, Goku met him when he was hungry, had a little fight and… yeah, the guy became Korin's senzu beans e-mail service, that's all he was good for.
-
And the main reason why Vegeta loses on earth.
-

Kinda weird how he was treated considering he killed one of Piccolo's demons like a complete joke. (Tenshinhan couldn't even beat one)
I just find it odd how he was there when in the manga, it seems pretty apparent that Korin doesn't even like him.
-
new episode. -
"I'll just warn you….I'm not afraid to hit a woman."
"That's fine. Neither am I."I'm liking 16's voice.
-
I love the androids. The banter between them and Vegeta is golden
-
That Mitch though.
But, yeah, I'm loving both 16's character and voice.
-
16's voice is pretty much identical to what I remember.
And Yamcha was such a dick the whole time, that was great
-
The interaction between 16 and 17 is a lotta fun. Just sort of "sure, whatever buddy" with no condensation or anything.
And yeah, from pretty much this point forward till the end of the series Vegeta's role in life is to screw things up, and get beaten to a pulp. Ah well.
-
Watching Vegeta get beaten is always fun.
At least he doesn't get shafted like everyone else. As much as I like dragonball, it just registered to me how jacked up the namek arc was to Krillin.
Was there ANY reason to give him that powerup for him to do NOTHING with it? Just why? Why would you, not even a chapter later, make his power up worthless? Toriyama could've had him fight as Vegeta's equal until the Ginyu force showed up or something.
The same could be said about Piccolo's merging with Kami too. Just why? He powers up to fight the androids… and then loses to 17 again.
Vegeta at least saves the day in the Cell arc.
-
i'm like the androids and i'm really liking 16 so far
-
I absolutely adore what they did with A18. Everything, from her dialogue, to voice is so spot on. I was REALLY hyped for Android and scared that if they fuck it up - we'll be stuck for a long time with something not as fun.
I love being wrong, I have so much more fun when I'm wrong. -
They handled 16 suprisingly well

Prety sure it was cell that defeats him after having absorved a lot of peoples.

Same reason Toriyama had Tienshin, Yamcha and Chaozu training with King Kai only for nothing to ever come of it… he was making it up largely as he went along.
And he hadn't quite stepped into the Saiyan cheat territory, or quite so supremely written himself into a corner with Frieza's power.. If it helps, you can say its the only reason he, or Gohan for that matter, was able to do anything at all during the Ginyu and Frieza stuff.
(And didn't Piccollo and Kami's fusion let him completely manhandle Cell at the time? And he was winning against 17 till Cell showed up.)
Vegeta at least saves the day in the Cell arc.
Aside from beating 19, in no way did Vegeta contribute to helping in that arc. He only made things worse at, basically, every single opportunity. And again in the Buu saga. Hell, the Buu saga would have been wrapped up in about 5 minutes if it had been JUST Goku and Gohan there.

I think he's referring to that blast that distracted Cell and allowed Gohan to deliver the final blow.
-
I think he's referring to how Vegeta attacked Cell at the end of the saga allowing Gohan to overpower Cell when Cell was winning at that point…...that was the anime though, so I don't know if it was different in the manga.
Edit: Yep.
-

And who actively HELPED Cell get to that final form in the first place?
Any of the characters could have provided that same distraction shot. (Hell, Trunks had to die before he even contributed that much.) Only Vegeta would beat up his son and aid in murder to help create an enemy he couldn't beat. (You think he would have learned after Zarbon's transformation. And Frieza's. And Piccollo's. And Goku's. And his own.)
Wouldn't be so bad if Vegeta had just lost to Cell2 and been unable to prevent it, but no, total opposite.
Vegeta gets zero helpful credit in that situation.
Then in Buu saga he goes off and willingly turns evil again, just cause.
-

Well, yeah, he messed up plenty on the way, but the other characters did try the distraction shot and were too weak at the time.

Don't forget he is also one of the reasons why Majin Buu gets out of its cage.:ninja:

Yup, it's the same as in the manga: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/manga/chp-416/ last paragraph of the synopsis
-
Well, yeah, he messed up plenty on the way, but the other characters did try the distraction shot and were too weak at the time.
He did nothing until after Trunks got taken out. Real help there Vegeta.
Vegeta has two modes. Overconfident asshole, and overwhelmed pants-wetter. Every. Single. Arc.
Let alone if you count the movies or GT.
-

I think that was anime only. In the manga those hilarious scenes of Cell blasting Piccolo and co. with super powered farts didn't happen, only Vegeta blasting Cell in the face.
I think the worse Vegeta moment was the Buu saga fiasco, specially considering at the end of the Cell saga he went as far as to say that he didn't want to fight anymore, and yet look at the shitstorm he ended up provoking all by himself cause he wanted to fight Goku and receive a cheap power up in the process.
Even funnier is him turning super emotional and accepting his fault in a split second without any build up. Buu saga was real fun, but man was the writing pretty damn bad.
-
Guys he wasn't winning against 17, they were evenly matched but Piccolo's stamina was running low while 17 was doing fine because he doesn't get tired. Then Cell shows up before they can finish but it doesn't look good for him.
And Cell was a joke when he first appeared, he even had to absorb people just to fight the androids.
About that "I'll never fight again" line, I thought he was saying he'll never get a chance to fight against Goku again, either that or Toriyama just changed his mind.
That said, still have no idea why he has so many fans, I started hating him the moment he started fighting Freeza. Seriously, what the hell was that? He's the one who challenges Freeza to transform, and he does the LEAST FIGHTING OUT OF EVERYONE, and when he does fight, he uses all of his ki and proceeds to cry like a baby.
Shameful diplay.
-
As stupid as it was, I didn't mind "Majin Vegetas" antics all that much, because he was called out on his pathetic midlife crisis. And they actually bothered ressurecting the people he murdered, unlike the Random Truck driver of this arc.
I love how TFS gives 16 more development than Toyirama ever did. "Aqcuiring Hobby", lol.
Out of the entire franchise, the scene I am looking most forward to seeing Abridged is 16 and Gohans "big moment", which was one of the dumbest Dragonball moments ever. -

Don't forget retrospective weeper.
But then he gets revived and it's straight back into Overconfident Asshole without a moment's hesitation.

Only for them to be shortly murdered again by Buu at some point, LOL

Explain.

"Take care Gohan! I love you!"
Crunch
"WOOOOOOOOAAAAH I WAS SO EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO THAT RANDOM ROBOT, RAAAAAAGE!"Gohan and 16 did not have the most…developed of relationships, is all I'm saying. Which rather stunted the emotional impact of the SSJ2 transformation.

Yeah, no, that's fair enough. That always sorta bugged me too (though, not enough to call it one of DB's dumbest moments).
Of course, one of these I really need to sit down and read the entire Dragonball manga. I actually really liked the Cell saga as a kid.
-
Yeah, I remember liking the Cell saga the most. Mainly because of how it all started and Gohan's development actually. I remember being really excited with Trunks arrival in a sort of "what is GOING ON." moment. It's still the most memorable moment of DBZ to me.
Yeah, it's all full of holes, but for some reason I still enjoyed it and don't really hate it. Gohan's transformation and him being so cold-blooded with the Cell juniors was a cool/pretty creepy scene, too. It was just really satisfying after all the build-up. He was a freaking badass. It's not like this wasn't foreshadowed either. Cell just kept pushing his buttons. It's the Buu saga when I dropped off. Just became really boring and I don't think I have seen all of it to this day, having skipped episodes here and there. -
That said, still have no idea why he has so many fans,
Because he was pretty awesome on Earth and on Namek (where he was the ONLY one getting anything done for most of the arc)… up until the Frieza fight. Which... was delayed for many many years here. So a lot of years for the English release we only got the GOOD Vegeta parts, where he was an active, scary, asskicker who by circumstance was forced to do a dramatic alliance turnaround thing. He also gets cool entrances in the movies.
It took a few years to reveal the repeated problems he had, and by then he was pretty ingrained.
Best character is Yamcha anyway.
-
Best characther is Nappa.:ninja:
-
Hell yeah, Mr. Popo. It's still hilarious what they did with him in abridged.
-
People like Vegeta because he's everything Goku isn't. Him being stupid(but not as dumb as goku) and arrogant is just the icing on the cake to make him a fan favorite character. Vegeta also has some of the better lines in DBZ
-
-
Well, Mr. Popo isn't much a character in the actual series either. Kind of offensive, actually.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Best ABRIDGED character is Nappa.
Regular Nappa sucks.
Why do you think i put the ninja emoticon.:ninja:
!
I have such a man crush on Nappa now. lol -
I think the best abridged character is Guru. TFS took a character I couldn't have been more indifferent about and made me love him.
-

Yeah, Guru, Nappa and Mr. Popo are that way to me. They're pretty bland and unimportant in the main series, but really funny in abridged.
-

That's probably the strength of the characters. Whereas the other characters kinda lampoon the faults of the characters in the actual series, TFS has way more freedom messing around with someone like, say, Kami's groundskeeper, because of how little development they have.
-
Makes me wonder how they'll handle someone like Mr. Satan who was already defined as 100% comic relief in the manga.
What are you guys' expectations for Cell? They did an amazing job playing Frieza mostly straight, but since Straight Cell is a flavorless ill-defined bore, I hope they go another route with him.
Seriously, I have a hard time defining Cell as a character. There might've been a lot of mannerisms and details lost in the Danish translation I grew up on, but he always just came across as the most boring compromise of Friezas arrogant menace, and Buus simple lust for destruction.
-
A decent episode, not one of their bests, felt like it was missing something though, like another 5 minutes or something. Probably will be better when watched spliced together with the other episodes.
-

Well the one that will do his voice will be Takahata101 aka Nappa and Alucard.
So it should be good. -

Cell is probably my favorite villain in all of DBZ. He's the most intelligent out of Freeza, Raditz, Vegeta and Nappa, and Buu. He's also pretty cocky (what villain isn't?) and can be a smartass. TFS might just keep him as is and maybe expand on his smartass-ness. As for Mr. Satan, I consider him an open canvas for TFS and they might just change how he is like they did for Guru and Popo, who knows?
-
Their Mr. Satan should be straight up complete dead pan serious. With the rest of the cast completely believing he's the strongest guy in the world. Or maybe the Dos Equis - The Most Interesting Man In The World guy.
But they'll probably just embellish the wrestler aspect though, given how they treated the Ginyu force.
-
Cell is like vegeta acting almighty whem he is clearly the strongest but a gigantic crybaby whem someone is clearly stronger than him.
