Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread made for this yet.

Uncharted 2 will follow Drake on his search for the Cintamani Stone, while being pursued by war-criminal, Zoran Lazarevic. Elena and Sully are back, along with some new characters like Nate's ex, Chloe, and a former explorer, Karl Schafer. From the looks of the trailers, the game will take place in the Himalayas, an Indian town, and the jungle.

So far, it's getting nothing but rave reviews. If the last game (plus the addition of co-op and online multiplayer), was any indication, it's probably for a good reason. And the best part is, it's out next week!

Oh I'll eventually buy the second one if I like the first (which I probably will).
The first is almost $40 cheaper.

What initially attracted me to Uncharted 2 was its co-op mode. But, there is no splitscreen (online only) so I don't have much use for it.

The only action adventure game I was ever into was God of War, but I got uncharted when I bought my PS3 and i loved it.

I'm probably getting this game, but I want to wait for a price drop first. I love action/adventure games on the PS3, and I liked the first Uncharted quite a lot. My concern is that I'll only be playing this game once, for probably 10-15 hours. The multiplayer seems good, but most of my multiplayer is devoted to Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter. So I'll get it, but not for a good long while.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and God of War III, however, will both be day-one purchases for me. They're also American action games. Who'dve thunk?

Yea, i saw something that said it was only about 10 hours of single player. Despite it having a good multiplayer, a ten hour single campaign for a game that was introduced as a single player campaign game seems a little lame. Monster Hunter…dude, i can't wait til that comes out on the Wii. I've needed a reason to actually play something that wasn't just downgraded shovelware. I've been playing the first one for PS2 and although the sever has been down for 2 years, i still have a ton of fun with it and have logged in about 45 hours mid way through tier 5.

The first game wasn't that long so after you beat it there was next to no reason to play the game again unless you fashion yourself a completionist, this is why they decided on adding multiplayer.

Am I the only one who hates the fact that now instead of just penalizing someone who leaves multiplayer a game willingly or unwillingly in my case not only does the game dock your earnings but your experience too.

So… how necessary is it to play the fist Uncharted to understand the story of Among Thieves, really? I suppose I'm going get both games eventually but I figured I would still ask anyway. Like does it matter if I beat U2 before getting into U1?

I would just rent U1, which can be beat in about 10 hours and then buy U2.

But to answer your question, you don't really need to have played the first one to enjoy the second. They both don't have very deep stories anyway, and its the whole cinematic feel that the game provides that makes it great.

That said, I still think you should rent U1 first. Buying it is really not necessary, as IMO, it doesn't have much replay value.

I think the first Uncharted is worth it. I'm glad it is on my shelf.

There are some very minor things explained in the first that don't get reexplained, but it isn't needed. I would still play the first one first.

I just finished playing it on normal difficulty. It was a fantastic experience and I'm replaying it on hard. This game certainly deserves to be the game of the year.

I completely agree. I really liked Sully's involvement in the first game. Especially since he always seemed like he'd be the one to get killed. But NEVER DID! He made it out just fine!

The second game is much better in terms of gameplay and pacing. But I kinda miss Sully. Him backing out after nearly getting killed in Borneo was believable and didn't feel like a cop out. But the rest of the game, I was hoping for him to show up near the end and save everyones ass (lit cigar in mouth)

But that's only a thought. UC2 is amazing

Playing it atm. Not hugely impressed considering the praise its getting. It's basically Tomb Raider without the boobs.

The multiplayer is good, maybe not fangasmingly good.. but i've spent a deal of time with it and have been satisfied. Hell of a lot less dying than in COD:MW2.

And the game itself was very much worth my gamestop employee discounted 60$

i got mine free with the PS3 ;) but yeah. It's not that. I only played 30 mins so I can't really comment. But no way am I keeping a game that services 10 hours, if that when I could cash it in and get another game (especially when most stores are giving out quite a bit for it compared to the usual £5 per game) Hell. I'd be insulted having to pay £10 for a 10 hour game.

Thats kind of one of the reasons why I like it though. It reminds me of Tomb Raider when it was still a respectable franchise.

The only real issue I'm having with it at the moment are the controls for throwing grenades, but thats about it. Its beautifully presented otherwise (Currently on chapter 6).

I understand the complaint about 10 hour-full priced games… to which I usually feel the same. I rented Batman: Arkham Asylum and got my fill of it (A+ rental!)

but this one is very well done. It's colorful (when compared to all the brown, grey, and black blockbusters out there... yeah i'm talking about gears), damn good action/adventure-film story, amazing graphics, good gameplay, funny and lifelike characters and plays out like a damn good movie.

Maybe you won't be playing everyday (like fallout 3 for me). But it gives me the same amount of entertainment that a really awesome movie does... and when I find a gem of a movie, I go and buy it. Even if i'll only end up watching it a couple times every few years. And being able to PLAY this movie is a bonus.

Just give it some time. You can't really expect it to be mind blowing from the very beginning. Wait until about the 5th or 6th level; it really starts to pick up from there.

Also, I'd say Chloe is as (if not more) "wankable" as/than Lara Croft.:ninja:

…and Uncharted series are better than Tomb Raider, partly because of Sully, and that Nate literally thinks what you think when during certain sections of the game....among other things.

I don't really recall why the TR series were popular for to begin with. i know my bro just got them all and used cheats to beat them

At chapter 22 just after the convoy race/jump olympics. I'm not finding the game better or worse than 1, but 1 is one of the best games I've played. I'm a little disappointed that the story seems to be a carbon copy of 1's right down to the details. People who never played 1 won't have this problem, tho.

Speaking of which, I'm so sad so many people are skipping 1. It's just as good as 2, but I guess it's expected due to how more mainstream 2 has become over 1.

I will say I've talked to myself more this game than I did the first, which I didn't think was possible. I agree with Nate most of the time.

Well, I think 2 also has the added benefit of being around now that the PS3 finally has its groove in terms of appeal and software. And Uncharted 1 while receiving a lot of praise, I understand did have a few janky issues with the SIXAXIS CONTROLLER. (I've yet to try 1 though).

The great thing about a game like this (as well as this adventure-exploration genre of entertainment) is how you really don't need to play the previous to enjoy whats going on. You don't have to see Temple of Doom, or Raiders of the Lost Ark, to enjoy The Last Crusade. You don't even need to play the first Tomb Raider to enjoy Tomb Raider II.

Yes, but it's the matter that they recycled the same story, I know what to expect.

! When I first saw the decendants in 1 it was the biggest WTF moment I experienced in gaming cause it was so unexpected. But now I knew I'd be fighting monsters in 2 cause it was following the same formula.

The SIXAXIS is only used to walk across logs in 1 (something they completely removed from 2) and there was only like, two in the whole game. I don't see how that can be a negative.

First few Tomb Raider games were very good. At the time at least and especially if you didn't use cheats :sideways:.

But, yeah, if old Tomb Raider games were released now exactly as they were back then I'm sure they wouldn't compere.

Probably some things about those games would be pretty bloody aweful. TR's controls weren't even that good back then. I guess Tomb Raiders games just eventually failed to keep up with the competition, and Tomb Raider becoming popular culture was probably a huge turn off for lots of gamers.

The latest TR felt okey but I only played a demo. But perhaps at this point the series needs a complete reboot and redesign. Might be a lost cause, Uncharted has set the bar fucking high.
