But here's the question: Is your eye candy Chris Helmsworth or Natalie Portman?
Thor
-
-
Well, I am off to the midnight showing.
With any luck, it'll live up to my expectations.
-
The eye candy is clearly Hugo Weaving.
-
But here's the question: Is your eye candy Chris Helmsworth or Natalie Portman?
It'd be Natalie Portman for mee….
I wish I could see it... -
Going after work tomorrow.
It seems my area has a lack of normally showings though, so I'm stuck with the 3-d.
-
This movie was fantastic, you really have to see it yourself without going into it negatively to see how great a job they have done with it.
Not worth it in 3d though.
-
But here's the question: Is your eye candy Chris Helmsworth or Natalie Portman?
Both. By no means do I think either one is the most attractive person ever, but Chris's body is pretty fine and I always found Natalie pretty attractive, even when I hated her (I don't anymore). But if I had to pick one, Chris wins.
@Cyan:
The eye candy is clearly Hugo Weaving.
Ugh…
Hugo Weaving and Chris Evans in one movie. By no means do I think Hugo is as attractive as Chris, BUT HIS VOICE! His voice and Chris' body....
That movie is going to be awesome, beyond eye candy, though. I can tell.
EDIT: And then, there's a romantic comedy with Chris Evans and Anna Faris coming soon. Both naked.
Yeah.........This is a good year.

Just got back from the movie.
IT WAS AMAZING.
Casting was PERFECT.
Thor was great, Loki was great, Odin was great, Jane was great, the Warriors Three were great.
Especially Fandral, he came STRAIGHT OUT OF THE COMIC BOOK.
I was initially lolwut at black Heimdall, but he played that shit perfectly. Pretty much schooled everyone as the most awesome guy in a kingdom consisting solely of other awesome guys.
! I felt really bad for Loki, though… he wasn't a bad guy, he just wanted his daddy to love him.
! But his daddy loved him all along, he just didn't see it. :< -

-
I saw it on a regular screen, wasn't about to pay extra for useless 3D. :/
-
I hate 3d with a passion but I decided this summer that I will do at least one movie in 3D because of all of the geek movies.
-
Anthony Hopkins was great
Best bit:
!
Hiddleston was really good, everyone else was good enough.
-
Honestly I expected this movie to flop. But I loved every bit of it. Hawk Eye's cameo was pretty nice. I hope if or when a second film is made, that Hela makes an appearance. But once again MCU is dominating with it's adaptions. I do hope that Green Lantern and the new Superman do well for DC.
-
This movie surpassed my every expectation and amazed me. And that teaser after the credits… WOW. I expected something big in that briefcase, but THAT was a surprise. And I LOVE it!
-
Let us now declare:
POST SPOILERS BEHIND A SPOILER TAG! I'm excited to see it, but Thor is one of those comic book franchises I know NOTHING about. I know the Norwegian legends, of course, but nothing from the comic book. I'm going into this blind. Is that a good or bad thing?
-
Especially Fandral, he came STRAIGHT OUT OF THE COMIC BOOK.
Tell me about it. At the battle with the frost gigants i literarly saw a comic book in motion. And one of my favorite characters came to life.
@Syan:

! That was the cosmic cube right? Wonder if it's gonna tie in with the Cap film, or the avengers one
And well there wasn't any need for 3D. But i felt the added depth really helped alot of the scenes in asgard.
-
You know, from now on, unless it's a cgi film, I'm not even going to bother with 3D.

You won't lose anything from not having read any of the comics. In point of fact, one of the few things I didn't like about the film was that there was perhaps a bit too much exposition.
-
Adaptions are almost always better when you know nothing about the original.

But I'm not going to have any fangirl moments, am I?
. . . . . except for that Nick Fury scene after the credits, apparently.
-
This movie looks great. Really happy it will join the good marvel adaptations like Spiderman 2, Hulk reboot and Iron man 1 and 2.
Adaptions are almost always better when you know nothing about the original.
The downside is the original work might get ruined for you if you watch the movie first. I saw the movie first for Watchmen and it ended up hampering my liking the comic book (Rorshach's death seemed to pale in comparison to the movie). Of course the original had the giant squid.
-

I don't really think that there was really much that would do that even if you were fully thor'd up.
I appreciated the way they adapted the source material and what was changed, but it was more in the way thinking "ah, that's what they've done to update that" then "They referenced ______, Yesssssssss".
For me the main thing that made me enjoy this movie was how the relationship between Odin and his sons was portrayed.
-

True enough. But practicaly the whole movie was a gigant "oh yes they referenced that" moment. So you'd lose that sense of wonder if you weren't a fan before the movie.
And after his cameo in Thor i'm wondering if Hawkeye is ever gonna get a movie of his own, or a big role in the black widow movie they were thinking about doing.
-
lol. It's funny. Half the reviews I'm reading say the Asgard scenes are the best, while the other half says the Earth scenes are the best. Which is it!?
-
I loved the Thor but I'd say it's not nearly the best Avengers film so far.
The love story seems a bit tacked on, forced and too quick and the earth scenes are somewhat sparse in terms of location and actual content. I reckon they could have done a lot more with it but it was still great for what it was.
-
! That was the cosmic cube right? Wonder if it's gonna tie in with the Cap film, or the avengers one
! Yeah, it was the Cosmic Cube. I'm thinking it will be involved heavily in BOTH films, just as Loki will undoubtedly be. Have Red Skull's men create the Cube, have Cap stop Skull's plans and both Cap and the Cube lost until both are found, Avengers starts, and Loki pulls a plan involving the Cube. Could blend together masterfully!
-

Well, supposedly the Avengers movie is going to be
! full blown skrulls and alien invasion so I dunno if that would actually tie into things at all. We'll see, I guess!
-
! Well I'll be happy with more Loki after his performance in Thor. Never really found skrulls or the kree to be that interesting to be honest.
lol. It's funny. Half the reviews I'm reading say the Asgard scenes are the best, while the other half says the Earth scenes are the best. Which is it!?
Asgard personally.
-

I actually enjoyed how the earth scenes were sparse as you put it. Make a great contrast with the splendor of Asgard. Especially since the whole point of his banishment is that he'll be denied all the splendors of Asgard and will be stuck on the miserable pile of dirt that is earth. But even still he finds the beauty in everyday life, and learns from it.
As for the romance, it is in typical marvel fashion a side note, that's not built up like a "classic" hollywood romance where it all revolves around getting the girl and proving your undying love for her. And in a way i can see how people felt it rushed, how Thor and Jane just grew into loving each other from a few camp fire talks. But the chemistry and interaction of the two made it feel alot more real than the twilight school of love.
That's atleast how i felt about it.
@RobbyBevard:

! Would be a nice nod to the first avengers comic if Loki played a major part in it. Even if it's behind the scenes
-
Just saw the movie and damn…it was good. This was one of those movies where you jump up constantly because it's full of things you love. Natalie Portman was great and I loved what they did with Jane's character. When I heard about Thor I expected the humans to be rather annoying except SHIELD but I was wrong. None of the humans bugged me and while we got a big scene with SHIELD I felt they were overshadowed by everything going on around them...and that wasn't a bad thing. Also props for putting Hawkeye in, I really can't wait to see him in the Avengers movie.
-
Almost saw this tonight, but my sister wanted to see a horror. We watched Scream 4 instead.
I enjoyed it, even though it was convoluted and stupid as hell.
-
Saw and I thought it was great.
Turns out the theater didn't start selling the normal tickets until today, but were selling 3-D ones for a while.
And now I feel the need to go to the pet store and buy a dog big enough to ride.
-
Thanks to my dad's collection of Journey into Mystery, I've always loved the series and was really satisfied with the film. The humor (with one bit in particular being the single funniest moment in any Marvel to date as far as I'm concerned; the entire theater laughed when it happened even if you could see it coming a mile away [if you can't tell, I'm being indirect to avoid spoiling the moment]), the action sequences impressive, and the acting excellent. Probably Stan's funniest cameo.
Slight question that isn't an actual spoiler, but I'll spoiler it just in case since its answer might be.
! Anybody know who that Shield agent that slugged it out with Thor was? The fact that he put up such a solid fight for a while made me think that his character is slightly more important than usual and that it's an unnamed cameo, but I might be overthinking it.
-
That was Agent Delancey, noone important, just some random agent.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Well, supposedly the Avengers movie is going to be

I hadn't heard that that was supposed to be the plot. I don't know how that would go over.
-
Great movie, probably the best even though I really liked Spider-Man 2, Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man 2. I guess I could call this the best first try.
It did feel a little quick, but as far as things like Jane falling in love quickly goes, uh, you all saw Hemsworth, right? Very likeable lead man. You don't question him charming his own friends or beating ass. Thankfully, Loki was just as likeable and complex. Everyone but Hogun fit well enough, really.
The action scenes were great, and the snags were so minor that I can't think of a scene I minded. Can't believe I didn't catch the part after the credits though…
-
Just saw it.
! God I hope that Cosmic Cube leads to Thanos being the villain.
-
Just saw it. LOVED IT. No, it's not as good as Batman or Iron Man, but it's a damn fun movie. And that's all a comic book movie needs to be: FUN.
I will say this, though: "Enough with the shakey cam, Kenneth! I can't follow it!"
! The casting was great, everyone was having a blast, that much is certain. The Shakespeare influence was dripping from most of the scenes, you could practically feel the Bard sitting back with his fingers steepled and a proud smile on his face.
! The humor was most most welcome. Like the critics have been saying, it could have been so easy to drop the ball on this and make it corny as hell, but they struck just the right note. I think my favorite part was the Warriors Three, with Gimli the Larger (sorry, I don't know Thor, I don't know his name, that's what I'm calling him) saying my favorite line in the movie with "Found you!!"
! I can see what the critics were saying when they talked about Thor's change of heart being a little too quick, but Chris Hemsworth was so in the role I'll forgive it. Fun Fun. He and Natalie Portman have a good chemistry, so flash romance or not, it worked. And yes, Heimdall is DA MAN.
! But obviously my comic book lore is failing me (and it was never that big to begin with, I'm only intimately familiar with Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and X-Men), so I have to ask: What is the Cosmic Cube? My mother and I were confused, asking each other "Is that a piece of the Frost Giant's casket?" The little twist with Loki was great (although, what, is he possessing the scientist?), but I have no idea what the Cosmic Cube means for the Avengers. I'm assuming I'll get a better idea when I see Captain America.
! Are you talking about the scene where Jane hits Thor AGAIN with her car after complaining that she lost him?
And in case anyone was curious (I'm sure you weren't), if you ever want to know what my father looks like, he's Anthony Hopkins from this movie. I mean DAMN it was weird seeing my Dad wear armor and a helmet. Only my Dad has a lot less hair and a shorter beard than Hopkins did in this movie. And the creepy part? My Dad and Anthony Hopkins have THE SAME BIRTHDAY. Freaky.
-
Saw it, loved it, and can't stop thinking about it!
Hiddleston's Loki and Hopskin's Odin were really amazing along with Hemsworth's Thor.
I'm glad I went in with low expectations, because I was completely blown away!
And the cameos…just awesome!:
Stan Lee
HAWKEYE!!!
Nick FuryThe first great movie of the summer. Now, let's hope Captain America is the same.
-
Personal Op-Ed: this movie I didn't expect to revolutionize hero movies…and it didn't. But hey, I got my 7 bucks worth and it was a fun popcorn movie. I did like the whole "stranger in a strange land" idea they went with for Thor being believed to be "super-hobo" and I liked Hopkins and Portman (well the other girl I liked more than Portman...she really wanted her Ipod) The action was pretty sweet too, including the Frost Giant fight, Thor's assault to get his hammer, and the fight against the armor sentinal. On the other hand, the guy who played Loki...I just didn't like and I couldn't figure out why. Seemed like he just didn't really feel right for the role somehow or another. And the scenes on Asgard felt a tad more cliche and not as good as the stuff in New Mexico. Though I liked the fact that we did get Hawkeye...sort of.
! Though the aspect of the Cosmic Cube…well, all I can say is this: Loki is obviously in the Avengers next year but I hope we at least get A.I.M. or M.O.D.O.K. mentioned regarding how the heck Fury got his hands on that.
-

I would say I agree with your statements.
I liked this movie a lot, I wouldn't say it's Marvel's best movie (that would probably be Spider-Man 2) but I would rank it pretty high. The action was a ton of fun, the comedy was really good, it was quite intelligent for a summer blockbuster, I geeked out when we saw Hawkeye. The romance wasn't a strength, but it wasn't terrible I'd have to say. So all in all this movie hit a good note for me, and I would like to see the Avengers movie. Let's hope Captain America is good. And Green Lantern too. It really does look like Marvel and DC are starting to get the hang of making films.
Edit: @Tokoro Ataru, I agree with you that near the end, Loki started to become hammy, but I think that might have been the point. He's really a large ham, and he's deceitful and wears many masks, he just tries to seem like a calm voice of reason in order to decieve people. I've got to say Loki being the villain was actually hid pretty well, he was not obviously evil, which is a refreshing change of pace. Yeah, we all knew he was going to be evil, but I think they did a good job of making it seem like Loki was trustworthy to Thor.
I do agree with you that it didn't revolutionize super hero movies by any means, but it was still fun. I don't think popcorn movie would be the right term, because that usually implies the movie was dumb, which this film wasn't, it was a good, enjoyable film, but it wasn't amazing. Except in terms of effects, it was pretty damn great, but I care more for story and characters which weren't nearly as amazing as the fights, but certainly not on the horrid level of a Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich (did I get that right) film.

The Spider-Man films are made by Sony, not Marvel. Marvel's first own movie was Iron Man, so they got the hang of making films pretty much immediately.
-
Saw it last night also and in agreement with everyone here about it. Not OMG groundbreaking but considering that it's Thor Marvel did a hell of a job.
-
The movie seems entertaining. I love Thor's personality because he acts like a king from the middle age in a modern society.
Since, I have a tight budget, I will save it for the X men movie which seems to have a deeper and more engaging storyline. However, the special effects don't look too good (it has the weakest budget of the 4 super heroes movies release). I loved the first X men movie despite the weird special effectc cause of the acting and story.

Is that from the supposed script leak :x?
Cuz if so… I'm down.
-
The romance pretty much ruined the second half of the movie for me. It was so forced and tacked on that every time they mentioned it my friends and I cringed in the movie theater at how awful it felt. Thor was on earth for two days. I know movie romance is retarded, but come on!
That said pretty much everything that wasn't romance in the movie was awesome and epic. I loved every bit of it. Except when he defeated the destroyer, that was pretty anticlimactic.
-
Side note I need Kat Dennings to be my baby momma #5
-
Saw the movie tonight, and wow. It was pretty great. I had never really been exposed to the character of Thor before this, but after seeing this, he's definitely an interesting superheroes.
I also really liked the visuals this movie had going for it, which is something I usually don't care about all too much. Asgard looked amazing.
I'm looking forward to seeing Thor's return in the Avengers. Though I guess I should see Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America before going to see the Avengers next year….
-
Side note I need Kat Dennings to be my baby momma #5
Same here. Especially since I saw those nude pics of her a few months ago. Wowsers.
-
I didn't read any Thor's comics so i'm don't really know much about him. I wasn't impressed with the trailers and didn't think that the movie will be good. But after watching the movie , i thought that it was a little better then i expected. Probably give it a 7/10
There were parts when the movie was hilarious ; i was pretty surprised to find humour in this movie. I found Thor's change in behaviour kinda hasty, it was kinda hilarious and weird when Thor was talking to the shield agent about him willing to be an ally to the humans. But then again its a 2 hours so…
I find the fights not-exciting and kinda boring. To think about it, i rarely find comic-book-movies fights exciting. Every time i see a comic-book-movie fight(that i felt that is not-exciting) i always thought that the fights had so much more potential. Personally i think that comic-book-movie fights should learn a thing or 2 from anime/manga about elemental/ranged attacks. For example i always thought that in the movies, Storm was kind of nerfed and should learn from Enel about lightning attacks etc
@Tokoro:On the other hand, the guy who played Loki…I just didn't like and I couldn't figure out why. Seemed like he just didn't really feel right for the role somehow or another.
Agreed. I can't exactly say why as well, though i think Loki looks kinda lost in the movies. Maybe that's how he is in comics shrugs

I know Loki was supposed to be more subtle about it's evil intentions all along, but I guess my personal knowledge about him and just the whole "I care but I'm an evil deceiving bastard" just could never get out of my head even in the early scenes where you see the sneak attack by the Frost Giants at the coronation. I mean I get it worked but somehow I just couldn't just abandon my doubt about his character even from the start and his acting just never really worked for me when he worked with either Thor or Odin. I couldn't get past his double-talk and the acting even prior to his full-evil mode at the end just never seemed to convey charm or subtly on his true intention.
And my popcorn movie comment…it was more or less just that it was fun and not really something massive or important or incredible like the Spider-Man, X-men or first Iron Man movie. Heck, even the Ang Lee Hulk film was sort of a movie that made me really stand up and take notice. Thor...was just a fun ride. (well for the most part, I just never liked most of the Asgard stuff except the Frost Giant fight and the final battle with Loki)
