It's really early in the morning for me, but this news couldn't wait. Marvel has finally cast Thor for the movie! His name Chris Hemsworth. He relatively unknow, but he played Kirk's dad in the new Star Trek movie. Hopefully he won't disappoint.

Nice to see information on the movie, though I don't know how well this fit will work. I still think they should have used a shaven Johan Hegg so that we would have Amon Amarth music licensed for the movie and have an awesome Thor. AA already made Thor's soundtrack for Ragnarök:

They went with another unknown, Tom Hiddleston. He definitely has the look down. I haven't seen any of his stuff, but I have faith that Kenneth Branagh made the right decision. All this Thor news is getting me pumped up!

After watching Star Trek, Chris H. looks like a good candidate for the role of Thor, and Tom H. looks OK for the role of Loki.

Just found some news that Brian Blessed might be playing Odin. It's not confirmed yet, but I say the chances are pretty good because he and Kenneth Branagh have worked together in the past. I think Blessed would make a great Odin. He has an awsome booming voice.

Natalie Portman has been cast as Jane Foster!
For those of you who don't know much on Thor, Jane Foster was Donald Blake's (Thor's alter ego's) first love interest in the comic.
Anyway, I think Natalie is a great choice for this role, although I could have also seen her as playing Sif. Now I'm even more excited too see this movie! It will kick ass! XD

Wow this tread was way back there. Anyways found some important news. It turns out that Anthony Hopkins could actually be playing Odin. It's not certian if Brian Blessed is still in the movie, though he would be a good fit for Volstagg too.

I like the fact that they're using the modern/current version of Thor. Definitely looking forward to this more than I thought I would be.
Though their comics may not always sit well with me, this current crop of Marvel movies starting with Iron Man (excluding the Wolverine solo flick) is really awesome.

I thought Iron Man was a MUCH better movie than Dark Knight, and comic-wise I love Batman and don't like Iron Man. DK was a Joker movie more than a Batman movie.

Well we all know even if the movie sucks it won't affect the Avenger's movie which is what this,Iron Man,Captain America, etc are all being setup for.
I've often wondered about that myself; seems like being supported by people who only want you there so the world can end in fire (with you going to Hell in the process) would be somewhat off-putting

I think Thor will bomb, unless it's an worked as an independent movie from the rest. Thor is best when he ignored Marvel, however.. I really think Thor has the material to be Oscar worthy, if you just read JMS run.. you know EXACTLY what I mean..
The truth is though, this movie is just a stand-in as a prequel to Avengers… which is why I can't have high hopes.
As it stands, Thor was always Marvel's Superman (at least used to be..) if they realized this is HOW they need to present him... this movie could be epic, otherwise.. good luck.
Here's to hoping they hold on to the "false psycho idol" that the Ultimate universe used.. they all thought Thor was insane, till Ragnarok fell on their respective asses.. it was epic.

Yes, I realize the social implications of a film about Joker, especially due to the untimely death of HL, however, this is a thread about Thor and how much it will suck/rock. Let's not get off topic.
So… I'm hoping for a guest appearance by Beta Ray Bill.. doubt it though.
I would really love Sentry as a villain to a sequel of this, if it were to get a sequel...
I actually thought the image looked pretty badass, I hope they do a great job since I'm pretty much looking forward to it 
The thing about Thor is, they completely underplay him. I mean, aside from Hulk (which I personally liked), he is a GOD amongst human heroes. I don't think most people sit and consider this. This is the philosophical dilemma all Superman movies have had.
If Marvel played it smart, they would ignore the fact that this is just a prequel, and advertise and spend a LOT on this film, because it SHOULD be epic, instead I'm seeing that this will be another fun movie, that may even bomb if they don't find a chemistry between the modern world and Asgard.
Thor has… like Superman and Hulk all the material to be a movie about a meaningful "Clash of the Titans." If you just read JMS's Chapter 600 where Thor faces ______ .. you get what I'm talking about. That was a battle, that was deep storytelling, and masterful usage of Loki, who is not supposed to be some "Riddler," but the god of trickery and mischief.
Sorry for ranting, but Thor is one of my favorite heroes, especially during JMS, and I know they'll pull a Hulk.. not to say Hulk was bad, but it could have been SOOO much more with the premise it had.

I think they are taking it seriously. I know Kenneth Branagh is taking the story seriously because he read many of the Thor comics and Joe Quesada said when he met with him, Kenneth had a very good grasp of the character of Thor. This movie needs to be somewhat serious, otherwise moviegoers unfamiliar with Thor would never take him seriously.

That's bad news. I hope they change their my on the 3D soon. I'm watching it in 2D either way.

3-D's lost its novelty for me, the only recent film worth seeing in it was Monsters vs. Aliens, everything else (including Cameron's hype-fest) made no difference in how they're watched. (just saw Dispicable Me in 2D this weekend personally)

Who cares? 3-D as the tech currently allows it is just a gimmick anyway and its never worth the extra cash.
They could be filming it to be 3-D from the getgo and I still wouldn't bother with it.
Let a few more movies have terrible 3-D and the audiences will stop going to it and the fad will die out again, like it does every 20 years.
The movie is going to spend 99.9% of it lifecycle on dvd and television reruns on home equipment and not in 3-D. I'd rather the movie be good, than worry about the visual gimmick you only see once.
