I think it's more about not having the server room for so many episodes… just 30 episodes alone has to be nearing a terrobyte, if not larger, even with streaming episodes. Take into account they have the dubbed and subbed, so it automatically doubles.

They explained in their little "Funi Con 2.0" that the episodes will come back eventually - either someone concluded this meant they were cycling through them or they said it themselves. But it makes sense - that's a lot of server space (both in terms of file size AND traffic), and when you considered that Funimation has a lot of other stuff on their website streaming as well it's understandable.
-
The thing is they're having the episodes removed on Hulu as well.

It could mean they are either getting a larger server, or getting a separate server to place the old episodes on, which wouldn't be a bad idea. Or they have something else planned that I have no idea of.
-

Well, if they wana cycle the Episodes, logically they'd wana cycle them everywhere they're offered too.
I don't think they "Lost" any rights, they're just cycling the episodes like a TV rerun schedule. Since they're doing the same thing with the older dub eps too.
-
It's not about server space and it's not about rights. It's about them not being dumb enough to put their product online for free indefinitely.
-
Lmao Luffy. This line cracked me up a little:
-
I still don't get what the point of Toei forcing "Oh Come My Way" on FUNi if they are also able to throw queer in there.
Still, a very good episode, especially after the two week break. Buggy was hilarious this episode with his depression and his "mighty Muggy Ball" failing to KO the Minotaur. Oh and I seriously lol every time Bon Clay talks seriously, because you can't help but think Franky's gonna bust in any minute.
-
I'm not liking this whole 'Oh Come My Way' thing. If 'okama' by itself can be 'queer' why can't they just use 'queer way' for consistency's sake?
Queen of Queers made me lmao though.
-
Queer way has no tempo.
-
I already mentioned this in the animation study topic but this episode had some great animation. As far as "Oh Come My Way"…whatever, they've pretty much made sure not to step around the whole gay thing with all the other dialogue and once we get to Iva-chan...well that's going to be a field day in and of itself.
"Queen for Queers"...yeah, that line made me do a little bit of a spit take.
I loved Buggy and Luffy's interaction and a further reminder that Buggy is coming off as more of an replacement Usopp more than anything (not that it is a bad thing but the style of humor that is used for him).
I love how Hancock seems to have everyone in Impel Down into her in some way or another.
It seems that as we get further into Impel Down we'll get more good animation teams (perhaps the movie filler was to let all the mediocre animations be rotated out of the mix for awhile).
O-chan
-
Great episode. Animation was great, just like last week.
The team attack against the Minotaurs was very well done. Once again, Bon Clay, Buggy, Luffy, and Mr.3 all kick some ass.
I lol'd hard every time Buggy got depressed about Luffy not knowing the Buggy Ball.
Can't wait for next week. (Is it me, or Sadi-chan sounds like she's being sexually pleased with every other sentence?:ninja:)
-
I must be the only person on this forum who likes "Oh Come My Way."
And this episode was cool. Buggy MADE this rock.

Even Tranny or Crossdresser Way would work.. but the Oh come my way bit makes it sound… kind of like when a parent spells a bad word they don't want their kid to hear.
-

Yeah, that's the point of the joke. She's supposed to be a dominitrix rip off or something to that effect.
-
Nice episode. Minotauros looked pretty vicious considering his design and his not spiked club. I didn't realise there was no hair on his abs, it really makes him look cool. I hope the other 3 surprise me just as much. Though I doubt the coloring on the 3 other demon guards will make them look any scarier or cool. The Koala is green right? How odd.

Yes, leave it to Oda to have the wackiest animal designs. And he's DAMN proud of it, may I add.

Oh, I see. That makes a lot of sense. I'm not really familar with Sadi-chan's character. =P

Do you read the manga? Just curious. She was only used a little bit in this arc so if you do, you may have just forgotten about her. The anime will probably throw her and Saldeath in a little bit more, though.
-
I loved this 2010 starter (if ya wanna call it that) as it contains great action from pretty much everyone), great animation (especially from Luffy fighting the Minotaurus) & of course its funny moments (probably the funniest being the bits with Buggy. BTW Buggy proper PWNS now!)
Can't wait to see more of Magellan's seriousness & the gang's adventures in Lv4.
-

Must've skipped around. I'll be sure to read it again.

Me and My friend watched this episode and we were cracking up at the whole Muggy Ball scene, much funnier than the manga.

This "Oh Come My Way" thing is pretty inexplicable. Not just that it's an edit… but it's a really really strange one.
I don't think I've ever seen an edit where they said "What the hell, just pretend he's speaking English".

I like "Oh Come My Way". It has more of a musical quality to it.
-
I like it too…
And "Oh, come my way!" err- sounds like what a male would say to a male... if you know what I mean...
-
A lot of people seem to not know that "Oh Come My Way" is the title of Bon Kurei's character song. That's technically what it's officially called it seems.

I wonder how this "oh come my way" must look for people who have no idea what it is supposed to be. It must look weird.

I thought it was just because it sounded like Okama Way. O_o
-
I think we cal all agree, even if the "Oh Come My Way" gets annoying, at least nobody's shouting "BOSS!" over and over again!

AMEN. A thousand times over.
The best thing about the Impel Down arc? There are no children in Hell.

lol… so true...
In case anyone is curious, I checked the wiki titles and it seems by February the anime will be in the events of level 5, meaning this month will cover quite a lot of great stuff.

They didn't make it up, but exaggerate it. It was a speech quirk that replaced "w" with "V" on words like, Who, What, When Where, Why. But the Scanlaters used in on almost every "w"

Actually, I seem to recall it only applying to personal pronouns in the Japanese version, but I'm sure Rin can explain it better than me. Though I have to wonder… How can he add V's to the start of his words when the letter V doesn't exist in the Japanese language?:wassat:
Also, there was at least one scanlation that had Ivankov speaking with a RUSSIAN ACCENT. So yes, there are in fact scanlators who straight-out made up a speech-patten for the guy.
-
4Ranky House had him speaking with a Russian accent.

Yea I think your right. I was just trying to somewhat remember what Rin said about it.

Calling Rin~ We need you!
I could understand words like what, where, when etc, but in the latest chapter I saw him saying "Stravhat". Is this at all accurate? I mean, how would you pronounce that in English? Just like it looks?
Just saw the new episode with NO ads! It kicked ass as usual, and Magellen's random crap jokes just keep getting better. Only Oda could pull off a villain as badass as Magellen and have him need to take a crap every 5 minutes. That's the equivalent of say Itachi or Aizen from Naruto and Bleach having to take a crap every five minutes, something those authors couldn't pull off.
A few funny bits I had forgotten from the manga:
-Luffy's bloody snot booger
-Quote not 100% accurate:
Luffy: "We're falling!"
Buggy: "Oh no! My Muggy Ball was so powerful it destroyed the platform as well!"
Bon: "No, no! It was definitely my powerful kick!"
Luffy: "Hell no! It was my strong punches!"
Mr. 3: "No, no. It was definitely my Wax-Wax powers that did it. …oh wait, I didn't do that much."
Others: "Then shut up!"-I think some of those jokes with Magellen were added/lengthened, such as Hannybal's reaction to the toilet and complaining of its smell, but I could be wrong.
Next week will be even better. Can't wait.
-
Buggy, Mr. 3, and Bon are winning so much love right now.
Hannyabal and Magellen were great as always, especially with the add-ons to their little routines. And I too can't wait for next week. Should be awesome.
-
Great episode this week!
-The comedy: Magellan Abbot and Hannyabal Costello score again!
-More recurring characters: Woooooooooooooooooot for Mr. 1~
-The animation: A few of the characters looked a little wonky from far away, but on the whole, the close-ups and the action scenes were well-drawn.
AND… I'd like to point out that Sadie-chan's speech quirk is getting really annoying really fast.
-
My two favorite shots this episode:
oAaaaaah some of these Magellen shots look so damned good. Bon Clay talking about a "little queer friend" cracked me up.
-
Wait…was that explanation from Momonga in the comic? That would explain what Shanks is up to...
-
Those shots of Whitebeard make the upcoming war seem like an eternity.
Some great animation in this episode.
Hilarious bits as well.Looks like Funi translates the third Emperor to "Kaido" which makes a lot of sense.
-
Those shots of Whitebeard make the upcoming war seem like an eternity.
At least the war will be easier to follow when it's animated. The manga presentation of the earlier stages of the war makes it difficult to obtain the full impact of the war.
Besides, more explosion sound effects make everything better.

Ok, I'm here! XD

Yeah, Japanese has a V (Shock!) though it isn't commonly used (or wasn't, I've seen it starting to be used a LOT in anime and manga recently)
You get it by adding tenten marks to the character for "U"
ウ= U
ヴ = V
Before it gained more use lately, you used to get a V by using a B (IE, in DBZ, Bejita = Vegeta) But as I said, it's been getting used a LOT lately. One good example is Hellsing. At first, Seras Victoria's name was written "Serasu Bikkutoria" 「セラス・ビックトリア」, but then when you get to volume 7, Zorin uses the "Bikkutoria" spelling early in the volume, and then in the later part of the volume, inexplicably, Schrödinger refers to her as "Serasu Vikkutoria" 「セラス・ヴィックトリア」, and that's now the official spelling of her name. Now, Ivankov has a really odd quirk. Oda takes ONLY Personal pronouns and adds Vs to the beginning of them, sometimes replacing the first letter.
Watashi (I/Me) = Vatashi
Anata (You) = Anata (Notice this word doesn't have a "W" at all to begin with)
etc. That, and occasionally he'll elongate his syllables, but… LOTS of characters have done that (Just listen to Bon's "Jyoudan Jyanai Wa Yoooooooou")
@Vegard:
Also, there was at least one scanlation that had Ivankov speaking with a RUSSIAN ACCENT. So yes, there are in fact scanlators who straight-out made up a speech-patten for the guy.
Basically, Translators took Iva's speech quirk and ran WAAAY too far with it. At one point, at least one or two scanlation teams took the accent beyond just replacing Ws and Vs, I remember seeing dialog that went something like this:
"Kuma! Vhat Ees Wrong weeth You?! Zis ees not you! eet ees wery bad!"I shit you not, that's what it looked like. Switching out Ws for Vs is at least in the same direction as his actual quirk. The above sentence just goes straight into 4kids level "Random Accent" territory.
The way I'd translate Iva's quirk is like this:
"Kuma! What's wrong with Vou?! Vai am confused! Ve used to know each other! Why are Vou doing this?!"It looks goofy, yes, but that's pretty much how it looks to the Japanese readers, it's just as goofy to them.
I could understand words like what, where, when etc, but in the latest chapter I saw him saying "Stravhat". Is this at all accurate? I mean, how would you pronounce that in English? Just like it looks?
I am having a hard time pronouncing that to myself, it's very weird and doesn't really fit.
Also, no it's not accurate in the slightest. If Oda meant for something like that, he would have put something like "Mugivara" instead of "Mugiwara". Whenever Iva refers to Luffy, he just calls him "Straw Hat" like everyone else does. -
@Yuugi's:
Wait…was that explanation from Momonga in the comic? That would explain what Shanks is up to...

Very true. In all honesty, that's why I enjoy things like Naruto and Bleach better in the anime than in the manga. Well minus the Naruto fillers… Although Oda still does a very good job in bring uniqueness to his fights that far surpass many other Shonen mangaka often portray, which is what I believe makes it so much more popular, 95% percent of the time anyway.
Ok, I'm here! XD

I should have asked about this ages ago, but better late than never. Now the question is… how will FUNi translate it. Hopefully something more akin to what Rin wrote than what these scanlators are doing.
It's not surprising though really. 3/4 of the people doing these scanlations come from the same crowd of people that write random things on my One Piece dub Youtube clips about how "it sounds stupid in English but feels so much better in Japanese." I mean wtf is that supposed to mean anyway?! (Not that all scanlators are like this, of course…)
Btw Rin, just curious here... Since you're obviously so good at Japanese, did you take classes or do you speak it naturally? Makes me want to take classes so I can actually have an intelligent conversation and not have to ask the questions. xD
Overall I have no issues with the FUNi translations, but every now and again I see things that bother the hell out of me as a writer...
For example...
"I see ceiling crashing", or something to that affect. Luffy was the one to say it I believe. Every now and then they'll use lines missing things like "the" that don't flow right. It could just be that the translator/editors grew up around a different way of speaking than me and I'm just not used to this form of speaking, but meh... not a huge deal or anything, but it does annoy me a bit.
On a side note, Mr. 1 somehow seemed even more badass than that scene from the manga. Maybe it was the way he looked at the guard, but I swear he could rival ol Croc himself when it comes to death glares.
-
Great episode. Nice animation as usual. (Although, people say Hancock is drawn bad….I don't really see it...)
Daz Bones' death glare and the way he owned the prisoner reminded me what a badass he is.
This part made me LMAO.
Bon Clay:"Well, Straw-chan, they don't have the balls to go further!"
Buggy: "Who's nose looks like a ball?!"
Bon Clay: "EH?! You heard me!"We're getting closer and closer to New Kama Land, which is great.
Can't wait for next week.
EDIT: Magellan's toilet jokes were super funny.
Also, I see they uploaded 5 old episodes, instead of the usual 3.
