Being very pissed that I missed supposedly unmissable characters in my Suikoden 4 and thereby having wasted 20-something hours of my life, I decided to turn elsewhere for game enjoyment because lately, I haven't really been enjoying video games.
I tried Final Fantasy 2 and that lasted for about 10 minutes. I considered Suikoden 1 but my rage towards Konami was still too great. Recently I'd been playing through the Japanese Chrono Trigger so I figured, what the hell, it's been 5 or so years, why not give Chrono Cross another spin.
What a terrible game
I really don't mind graphics. I can still play any game so long as the game itself is fun but it looked like someone beat Chrono Cross' cast with an Ugly-Sledgehammer. What terrible looking polygons! Not to mention the backgrounds being so busy that I lose my character. Then I remembered the opening movie which was just clip compilations of the few CG blinks throughout the game. The text crawls along at a nothing pace, the enemies look awful in battle and the ginormous cast of characters who were useless.
Don't get me started on the battles. Let's say you wanted to rape a 'Beach Iguana' with a Level 7 summon. GOOD LUCK! You'd have to beat the thing to hell first which of course you can't do because it will die in one shot in New Game +. Speaking of the battle system, BLECK!
All of this, and when I put in Chrono Trigger I still get the supreme RPG experience. What a good game that was. Chrono Trigger rules.
