To me that speculation makes the most sense "doflaming believes in an era where only your strength has value. Dreams and stuff like that are for idiots." Bellamy was living that but was weak enough to loose against a dreamer like luffy. Whitebeard black beard shanks rayleigh are all people who are (ok probably are) dreamers. And with WBs death the world makes one step in the direction of the new age Doflamingo is believing in.
Chapter 540: "Level 6: Infinite Hell" Discussion

in my opinion he is against weak dreamers cause the old era of dreamers which all wanted to become PK is over…now the new era is all about strenght and so dreamers will lose...it`s the time to handle not to dream

But the question is how do you define dreams. If you set yourself a goal which you aim to achieve isn't that a dream already? No matter how likely or unlikely the goal is, there is never a 100% in their achievement so wouldn't the sole desire to achieve it be a dream technically?
And the point still stands, we've never ever seen Do Flamingo talk against dreams. Heck, he was even the one who voted for giving Teach a chance in order to prove himself worthy of the Shichibukai position. Ok, he might not have known that Teach is a dreamer but still, if a person with no bounty and no name wants to replace Crocodile then he simply does have to come across as dreamer. And yet Sengoku was against him not Do Flamingo. With what we have so far I say the indices lean more towards Do Flamingo bein pro dreams then contra. That's why Bellamy got the boot.
-
It seemed to me more like Doflamingo is opposed to fantastical pursuits and the general spirit of Romanticism. If someone wants to obtain something more concrete and realistic, like a new job position, then they are free to do so. He did say, after all, that people should pay attention to what's around them.
-
That was the New Era Bellamy was talking about, which as we found out later was an individual interpretation of what Do Flamingo had in mind.
Do Flamingo never ever said something about dreams being foolish. We only heard Bellamy speak of it so far. Besides, you have to be a dreamer yourself to shout out things like the following:
"HAH HAH HAH!! IT'S COMING!! HURRY!! MAKE YOUR PREPARATIONS!!! GET READY FOR A WORLD IN WHICH ONLY THE REAL PIRATES WILL SURVIVE!!! WEAK AND HELPLESS, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! THE UNCONTROLLABLE WAVES WILL BRING A "NEW ERA" OF GREAT MEN AND HEROES!!"
and
"I don't need…COMMON THUGS IN MY RANKS, BOYS…!!"
But both of those quotes are drooling, "A world where only the strong survive." How is he not saying the same thing as Bellamy? I think you guys are forgetting what Bellamy actually said; it's not about just having a dream in life, but about chasing "crazy" dreams, which he attested to being 'weak'. So a world where only the "strong" survive is the New Era, and being strong means not dying chasing after a mirage:
Bellamy: "You believe that ancient legend? That there's an island in the sky?? Hahaha…!! What year are YOU living in...? Among the unique ocean currents on the Grand Line is the "Knock Up Stream". […] There's a simple reason for all silly phenomena. The reason for "dreams" can all be easily explained!! YOU'RE JUST A CRAZY DREAMER. The age of pirate's dreams is over!!! El Dorado?! The Emerald City?! The great treasure One Piece?!! Fools with their eyes on imaginary treasure miss all the pickings to be had around their feet…!! In this era of the sea, the men who can cross it mightily ALL DIE CHASING AFTER MIRAGES!! Looking at dream-chasing idiots like you REALLY TURNS MY STOMACH!!! It's because of weaklings like you that we pirates get such a bad reputation."
-

Doflamingo seems to be a control freak. I would say that he likes to test people and that's why he said what i highlighted in your post to sengoku. To backup this statement i have this:
- He is selling living beings as slaves on shabaody (and it's probably not the only island)
- His DF allows him to control people like puppets
Dreamers in One piece are (and please this is actually my opinion) people believing in stuff that by common logic can't exist or are nearly unaccessable.
Example luffy at jaya stating he wants to travel to sky island. Why would he? Sounds fun. But he never considered the fact that it might have been a lie (or here begins the discussion about hearing the voice of everything and luffys ability to see in the heart of people…). That's a dreamer to me. They just in seconds decide that this is what i want to do next and they put all their will in it (and regarding luffy he mostly achieved what he wanted). That's the difference to someone like crocodile. He made a plan right to take over alabasta. But that doesn't qualifies him to be a dreamer. Nor does it qualifies bellamy to be a dreamer as he just wants to crush people only for the fun of it.
Dreamers put their heart into what they want to achieve. Dreamers do crazy things where normal people will only shaking their heads thinking "what's wrong with him is he an idiot?". Now doflamingo wants his era of smiles (whatever that means) his speech is weird i have to admit. I think bellamy tried to live like a pirate of the new age doflamingo is preaching. But he lost to luffy (OHKO!!!) and that makes him a weakling in the eyes of doflamingo. He wants a world where only the strong are at the top and where the weak are persecuted. So why not make an example by killing bellamy… -
What I meant with Croc+BB+DoF is that the 3 of them are same kind of brainers, able to elaborate big plans to reach their ambition.
-
I don't think Don Flamingo has any/many ambitions, and I don't think hes a dreamer. It would kinda suck if just about everyone strong in one piece is a dreamer. Also there
is funny irony that his name is taken from don quioxte -

Actually he never said that he finished Bellamy off because he was weak. Doflamingo said the following:
"Whether Sky Island exists… or not, or if the City of Gold is an illusion or not... neither of those matter... right, Bellamy...? You use both opinions... AND PIN 'EM DOWN!!!"
and
"I don't need… COMMON THUGS IN MY RANKS, BOYS...!!"
Of course this doesn't eliminate the possibility that he simply finished him off because he was to weak. But to me it looks more like it was because Bellamy didn't really grasp Do Flamingo's ideas.
Ah! You're right, I forgot about that! Actually, Doflamingo seems to come off as a criminal businessman type. A very, very machiavellian type villain. Like One Piece's Geese Howard. Really makes me look forward to when he's in the spotlight. He's gonna be awesome…
But Crossword also seems to be right; it's the One Piece world's heavy presence of romanticism that Doflamingo opposes. In his mind, you need to shoot for "real world" goals. He's the most powerful buzzkill in the world.
-
New Age is basically being a rich criminal, and not giving a damn about anything but yourself.
aah so he is american?

i just thought of something. isn't iva the perfect guy to cure boa and her love sickness? after all the act of falling in love has a lot to do with your hormones. since iva and luffy are coming to marineford it looks like that part of the story will end up getting dealt with. looks like all of the loose ends will get dealt with. well except for the strawhats but who knows they may end up at marineford like some think they will.
-

why would he cure something good?
-
-
Love sickness is what turned Boa's character to shit. Iva, cure it please.
-
Love sickness is what turned Boa's character into awesome. Iva, don't cure it please.
Fixed

Except she had no character before that… She was just "stock ice queen #425-B."

Take it to the Shichibukai thread where you haven't responded to all the posts calling you out for poor information.
-
At least it's entertaining… Even if calling hancock a weak shichi is basically just trolling around!
-
Kicking puppies and "looking down on you so much she's looking up" are as character traits as strong as any other in this manga.
That said, I can see Iva using her power to "cure" Hancock. However, will it come to that? Will it even need to? I dunno.
-
i don't think it is needed… Her love to luffy will hopfully makes her do something crazy (even crazier than infiltrating ID). My speculation was that she may die in the war trying to protect luffy from a marine. With luffy heading to the MHQ it seems possible. Luffy is now (subconsciously) using his haki and the death of hanmock will probably help him to cross that line again. (i have that emotionful image in my mind right now where you see hancock falling saying i love you to luffy who is screaming after her... Beautiful...)
-
Hancock is not Hinata.
-
or krilin or marguerite and her friends or bon clay….
-
So maybe the "new age" is like pirates as the mafia?
Organized crime.. Piracy as a business.
-
no chapter this week?

Almost .

Because I don't care nearly as much as you do. Seriously, if you haven't noticed yet, I take internet forums as seriously as… Well, I don't take them very seriously, now do I?
I'll go back to that topic when I need to kill some more time. So you don't need to obsessively hunt me down because you actually do care.
-
You mean you will go back when the topic has changed so you don't have to look like an idiot?

@dirt:
Almost .
what is that supposed to mean?

I have been thinking about WB crew and I noticed his recent crew seems pretty young so I wonder what happened to his crew when he was battling Roger.. hmm This crew if they are still under WB should be extremely strong… I wonder they are still serving him or not,... maybe they didnt want WB to be their father lol
anyway I think If they are still under WB and are under direct control of WB they should be really powerful.. yes they may be all old.. but seeing silvers being on par with admiral despite not really practicing or fighting for long time they might be what the Marines are really afraid of....
well I guess the battle will be to chaotic if this happenes but...this might happen..

I do apologize, but I am not sure as to what you are saying; I think you want members of Whitebeard's old crew to join in the war? Am I correct? Furthermore, you think that if they joined the war would be too chaotic? TOO CHAOTIC? That term is not possible in the One PieceVerse.
-
Oh no I was just wondering what happened to his original crews meaning the crews he had when he was battling Roger, Garp and any other Pirates as the crews he have right now seems to young compared to Silvers so unless his originial crew are not dead I wonder if they will appear in this war as WB hidden card..
-
i know i don´t have any proof, but what if kaidou (the other yonkou) was one of WB former pirates and splitted after some differences or something like that? cause as we heard he tried to stop wb or at least fight him…well could be possible, also WB sees his crew as family and aslong as they didn´t betray him i don´t see why they can´t split up searching for the one piece on their own...guess a father won´t kill his son for something like that ... but meh just a thought that came up...
so what? another one piece less week?
-
why would he cure something good?
unless hancock joins the strawhats then her illness will have to be dealt with. you can't have luffy abandoning her and then having her remain sick or die because of it.
-
Jesus Christ, people, it's a stupid discussion about fictional characters from a Japanese comic. The fact that you're taking a dumbass debate like that seriously enough to call me names and chase me to other topics about it has to be the most pathetic thing I've seen… Well, this week, anyway.
Good GOD… Now I can never complain about my own perspective on things again... Seriously, "fled to?!" Get some hobbies or something. Video games work for me, try that.
I guess I can't kill time by debating with you people anymore. Defending Boa Hancock is apparently some life or death shit to you people.
-
Krizalid knows Gomu Gomu Gatling.

"Get a life!!! Your posting on an internet fan forum is dorkier than my posting on an internet fan forum!"
Ah… drags on a cigarette the inevitable defense of the e-victim…
-
Yes, it is. I'm just shooting the shit and fucking around. You're taking it fuckin' seriously.
Lesser of two evils, here.
-
I think, while the image of aggressive e-rival stalking people across a forum and jamming furiously on his keyboard while pizza and stale cheetoes slough out of his gnashing mouth is an attractive one for the victimized, it is about as realistic as your argument that Hancock is weak.
Picture instead a dude with slicked back hair and sunglasses, cruising at a smooth '80 in his bitching camero, pondering what's going on in the chapter 540 thread with his i-phone in one hand, and groping his girlfriend's chest in the other. He's a much more compelling villain.
-
There will be no Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan this week. As such, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, D.Gray-Man, Eyeshield 21, and other WSJ series will not be coming out until next week.

Alright, seriously? Hobby. Find one. They're great. Also, I know you were trying to be ironic, but your second paragraph comes off as… well... I'm sorry, but I'm probably never going to see you as cool. It breaks your heart, I know, but that's just the way it is. If it makes you feel better, though, I did not assume you eat Cheetos.
Although I was unaware I was so amazing I was worth stalking. Man, did my self esteem just shoot right the hell up. I mean, damn, some pointless debate topic can't go on without me? Shit, I didn't even realise. Guess that topic's just gonna collapse now.

If you really didn't care, you wouldn't reply with a comeback. Now quit trying to one-up each other and get things back on topic. I will now pick from a list of topics I diced up with paper on my desk*:
"It seems obvious that allowing Croc into the gang is going to bite them in the ass eventually. Does anyone think this will directly effect Luffy, possibly staging a fourth (and completely unnecessary) battle? Or do you guys think it is more likely he will be Iva-san's problem? His involvement in all of this is strange, as I cannot imagine him playing a larger role anymore."
-
He'll use Ground Secco, the walls will turn to sand, water will rush in, and they'll all drown.
