The manga was released over 10 years ago, but it was never released in english.
Now there is a group of people translating this.
Although the manga is filled with shounen cliché's, i'm actually liking it,
And the artwork seems to resemble dragonball alot, the main protagonist's dad even resembles king Vegeta (including scouter!)
It starts of a little slow, though.
Currently at the newest translated chapter 278

One of my favorites. Bad news is they pretty slow. Sometimes new chapters are as slow as one a month, they do tend to make up for it though during summer vacation.
Yeah, the scan group is pretty slow sometimes. But it's a fun series, really clean art that's clearly heavily Toriyama-inspired, entertaining characters, good action. I was astounded at that one recent twist:
! Avan's still alive!? I almost wish they hadn't done it, since his death had a lot of impact and now it's lessened.
It started off as rather a good series. My only problem with it is how they keep shoehorning in new stronger enemies as time goes on, seemingly just to lengthen the manga's length.
Eh what manga or video game doesn't do that?
It's the style DQ does it in though. "Quick, let's fight this guy! Oh wait, before we do, here's some guys we've never seen or heard about before". I don't mind too much though, it's still far better then
! doubling the size of the manga just because it's become popular like deathnote did.
I do like the bad guys rather more then I like the heroes in this series though.
Anyways.. about the current chapter

! From a video I saw on youtube it looks like no one dies, but Dai is MIA at the end. Suppose to be something about his sword being fine that's proof that he's alive.
Of course the artwork resembles Akira Toriyama's style. It's fuckin' Dragon Quest.
Except that Toriyama didn't draw this series. But the resemblance is certainly there, and most likely that was done intentionally. Or was that what you were implying?

I've started reading this manga a couple of days ago and it's pretty damn addicting.
sometimes, it seems corny, but its still very good.
I'd just like to say that 299 is the best chapter of this manga so far.

And Kill-Vearn is all kinds of badass.
I hope so. That chapter was far too well put together to throw yet another "oh, by the way, I managed to escape thanks to…". Avan underestimated Kill-Vearn, and paid for it.
I hope that last "megante...?" from avan doesn't foreshadow some lame spell escape.
I got to go with one of the Pop vs the dragon riders as best chap. This was a awesome one though.

I still am. It just doesn't get a lot of attention due to it's age and random releases.
Only 30 something chapters left. Here's hoping they finish with it before they have to take a break again.

It had a anime, but that ended really early (the first fight of baran)
yeah, the anime got cancelled cuz it wasn't popular.
I remember watching it in korea, and Dai was Tai, and Maam was Masa. It was weird.

The demon lord's true form looks badass.
Now the waiting is for Dai to release his true demon form (like his dad).
I'm secretly hoping Pop will learn some new atack that surpasses Medora (to make him better then his master) , but i doubt it.
I'm still annoyed that Avan is alive.
But Myst-Vearn's true form looks quite snazzy.
i think avan being alive is cool because it strays away from the "master always dying first" stereotype so yeah, its still cool
and the whole mystvearn being the true body is awesome, but i do not like how he took over marm's body…idk...kinda lame..and i don't like how the pawn chess piece is a main character, kinda cheesy..i hate the rat too..really a waste of space
but i'm more curious about killvearn's master...damn...and this manga is suppose to end soon?, i feel like there is SO MUCH more left to see...

Ah, surprised to see a thread about this series.
Very old but nonetheless worthy series. I think it did a great job capturing the DQ "old school RPG" spirit of the original game, while maintaining a good level of integrity as a standalone manga.
I remember as a child I wanted to know what's hidden under Myst's robe so bad it was killing me. I didn't get to read the later half until many years after, and even that was a few years ago already, truly an old classic.
Assuming you guys are reading the scanlation on OM, it's coming to the end, although from my memories there's still a few cool development/surprises waiting.

Some action, some surprises, and a happy ending that I could see in a video game. I'm happy with Dai as a whole and I'm glad I got to see it.

The ending, although cliché was quite good.
And Pop really became one of my favourite shonen characters.
