HELLS. YES.
Its says that it's for the DS, so if anything it would port to the Wii, wouldn't it?
Not just the cutscenes, but even the in-play graphics look absolutely gorgeous.
==Story==
The player assumes the role of a 13 year-old boy whose actions lead to the death of his mother. He encounters a fairy that gives him a magic book that allows him to go to the world of Ninokuni, a reality parallel to his own. There he encounters alternate versions of people he knows; for instance his cat is a king there. The game will also include a booklet that is supposed to be the magic book from the game. In it players can find a bestiary, short stories that offer game hints and other info that the game will refer to.
GOD DAMMIT STUDIO GHIBLI ARE YOU EVEN CAPABLE OF DOING A STORY THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE CHILDREN IN MAGIC FAIRY LANDS?!?!?!?!
Hm, Studio Ghibli's take on Alice in Wonderland I presume. Looks really nice, though I'd need to see some more gameplay.

Please see Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, and Grave of the Fireflies.
Although I am erroneously linking Ghibli with Hayao Miyazaki too much, Whisper in the Wind seemed like a bad example.
Whisper of the Heart, you mean? I thought it counted, because it takes place in the real world. The only "fantasy" that you see is the girl's own imagination as she writes her story, and even that is only a couple scenes. Everything else is just a gorgeously drawn Tokyo.
Please let this have music like Layton. I'm liking the trailer music a lot, seems like a mix between Howls Moving Castle and Mononoke

Looks like they just brought it :P
cOLD. I was wondering why none of you were making a thread on this
Then again, there's a fuck load of video games no one's talking about or put up a thread about.
I expected more scenery porn from Ghibli. And better-looking critter thingies. Kinda looks like "boy travels around magic fairy land populated by shit he doodled on his school textbook."

Adventure Time .
O_O the PS3 trailer looks amazing!
I'll keep my eye on this one.
I didn't expect it to be on DS AND PS3, because they're totally different consoles.
Oh well, looks awesome. Will buy, both versions.
that world map looks amazing.
Looks great. Thank Jegus for DS and PS3 both being region-free. I'll be dusting these suckers off by the time anyone here gets a chance to play them.
This doesn't look all that great to me, which is disappointing. When I heard Level-5 was making a game with Studio Ghibli for the PS3 I nearly shat myself… then I saw the trailer and saw it was more or less Blue Dragon with a different art style.
hahahaha what else could you possibly be expecting? EVERY RPG IS BLUE DRAGON WITH A DIFFERENT ART STYLE
Looks pretty bland, but then agian… trailers of DS RPG games usually look bland because they boringly show the gimmicks like it's something major. I'll play it though,

Yeah.
I pretty much agree.

No, it is not. I guess I was hoping for something different when I heard these two massive forces were collaborating, I guess I expected too much.
@Mali: Hohoho, nearly missed what you did thar.
DS edition of this game is arriving on my doorstep in a couple hours.
It comes with a 350+ page book that is required to play the game. COPY PROTECTION IS BACK!!!
Ooooooo! Tell us if it's good, Stephen!

Its about damn time they brought back those books!
Long live lame-o-copy.
Though I guess this pretty much rules it out as a commute game.
From what I've heard, you can manage it, but you'd obviously need a purse or backpack to stash the book in. No slipping it into your pocket with the DS. Anyway I'll see soon.
I'm getting it too. Probably in a couple of weeks though with the slowest shipping possible. If it's not the best thing ever, do make sure to say so in the topic so I can try and intercept the tiny raft transporting my copy.
The whole giant tome excited me and brought me back.
I'm hoping for the best. I've read good things.
Been looking forward to this. Hard to go wrong, visually at least, with freaking Studio Ghibli on board for the art. And Level 5 has a pretty good track record for great looking games themselves.
Its going to be a DS game and a PS3 game, and probably very different on both. The idea of a huge 350 book being required to play kind of scares me though.
lol, okay, the package is ridiculous. it's like a PC game box from 1996. the book is hardcover and super nice. not full hardcover size, the dimensions are slightly larger than say, a Japanese volume of OP. there's a glossy card with an index of all the copy-protection codewords that appear in the game and what page of the book they correspond to.
I can't believe I got this on sale for like $40
is this coming out in america?
Well, this is one Ghibli-ass game. Here's the checklist so far:
American city set in some timeless pastoral European landscape trapped in the 1950s? CHECK
Child with caring mother who is soon separated from her? CHECK
Misadventures involving a vehicle constructed in secret? CHECK
Goofy looking magical creature pops up to act as guide? CHECK
Taken to a fantasy land? CHECK
Adorable little monsters? CHECK
Music by Joe "motherfucking" Hisaishi? CHEEEEECCCCKKKKKK
So it's basically a Ghibli-DQ9 mash-up…with a little bit of, I dunno, Jade Cocoon thrown in. The cutscenes look amazing. I don't know what kind of compression they used, but considering all the voice acting and other graphics going into this, I'm amazed they look as good as they do. Also, the voice acting is great (as usual, they employed more actors than seiyuu) and the magical guide character (Shizuku) is probably THE best acting I've heard in a Japanese game. Somehow he manages to make it sound like he's saying his lines and the text is just transcribing them, rather than every other videogame actor that is reading his/her lines off the screen.
So far I've used the book to transcribe new spells, each of which is a two-part rune (some of which can be pretty complicated). Fortunately it doesn't seem to require that you do that every time you want to cast the spell, only when you're ready to "learn" it.
