found this article rly amusing and it`s like a mirror for our society in many ways :blink:

that's quite cool, and oddly funny….......

No monkeys were hurt in the making of this, no wait just 16 monkeys suffering multiple injuries to discovers something unworthy of such an experiment......

i wonder if this would work on humans, i think after time yes.... =(

As a boring senior member, I thought trolling was inspired by the fishing technique of running bait behind a boat to try and catch something. Since all I wanted was to see you post something lulzworthy, I guess my fishing expedition was a limited success.

I don't believe that. Why would the monkey "jump on the bandwagon" so to say? The monkey seems just as likely to do nothing, it has a reason to not climb the ladder, but not to attack the newer monkey.

The fact that this behaviour persisted is even more questionable. So…I think this "experiment" was written just to comment on human behaviour regarding ideas taken out of context, not that it actually took place.

What makes it really questionable is that nowhere in the "article" does it say what was being researched. Group behavior among primates? Methods of simian communication? Is it really entertaining to irritate others and watch how they react? The article never says. Hence, my belief that it isn't really an article at all.

Since the article appeared on a site called "Johns Joke of the Day", I was under the impression that it was intended for cheap laughs, more than serious intellectual debate.

Well, the implication is racism is just a byproduct of group psychology.

Racism emerged because whites would look at slaves and over time tell themselves slaves were not only resigned to mean work, but were incapable of anything beyond that. This created a prejudice that was inherited for a hundred years even when the original context of slavery was removed.

I think using monkeys rather than chimps was to hit this home, because monkeys are clearly a "lesser primate" while apes like Gorillas/Chimps/Orangutans are considered more human-like.

I'm just speculating, though. I think the story is a fake, not just because it was a joke site.

Not all masters were white, learn some world history.

At some point we gave it a name and we institutionalized it and then we made a big deal out of it but racism is just something that has always existed and probably always will. Kinda like wife beating, slavery, war, raping, oppression of weak and abuse of other animals. It's a… it's a funny little story (psychology was never my strong suit -- do we have anybody with a degree of psychology anyway?). But that's about it. Would it be a real thing then it would be 10 times more interesting. At least I couldn't find any more info about this study ever really taking place.
