I was just observing and wondering why about 80% of the Usopp cosplayers I see, either at Cons or on the internet, are female. I'm not against it but I am curious as to why there is such a majority of female Usopps.
Girl Usopps?
-
-
it`s the nose…everywoman wants such a nose..you know such a loooong nose
-
cause usopp's a wimp, and guys think that's dumb?
-
points to sig
-
Because the majority of cosplayers are female.
-
Because they like to lie…
-
Because most Usopp fans are female. Almost the entire Usopp fanbase is, actually.
-
well I cosplay Usopp because he's my favorite xD maybe most guys don't want to put a pair of overalls on…. xDDD that an I imagine a lot of guys would get pissed off having to wear a ridiculous ammount of make up to blend in a fake nose O__O;
or maybe just like everyone else said... girls love usopp xD <3
-
Because most of the guys think it
s impossible to shave their legs/armpits/arms for a cosplay and Usopp
s main outfit is too open for that :P -
I always plan on doing an Usopp cosplay, but back out for someone cooler-looking.
I think Usopp requires more work than most of the strawhats and most higher-level cosplayers are female. The goggles, the nose…Usopp is a surprisingly complicated cosplay. And yeah, I hate the overalls, even though I'm in decent shape. I just hate the feeling of exposed-nip.
Except for Zoro and Sanji, most Op cosplays seem to be female anyway. Girls are always the majority at OP photoshoots. -
you know, i love usopp, but i never really had a big desire to cosplay him. shrugs shoulders
-
I should say, that until sogeking, I was indifferent to him.
I considered cosplaying him only, ONLY because my hair WAS as curly as his.
Its now been straightened, so Its likely I won't now. not that I have time for that X(
-
I never really cared about crossplays so long as they are well done. For example, so long as the appearance fits the gender of the character, you're all set.
I've seen that Male Kalifa cosplay and that's actually not too too bad and I feel that there should be more male crossplayers in the world. Honestly, where's the overly muscular black guy cosplaying as Miss Father's Day?
EDIT: Crap, I failed. I meant to say "Miss Monday".
-

Sounds good to me! I never really payed attention to One Piece cosplayers until I got into the series this year, but now that I'm going to be walking around for a day as Paulie…
Fangirls, you know where to look.

Been reviewing about psych drugs for an exam, and somewhere I just made a long connection: Freud would say he'd be the most obvious choice for the women who have phallus envy, but that's why he fails xD

HAHA! That's probably the best (if not the only) philosophy to anime connection I've ever seen in my life! good job

!
Our Sogeking was a girl… granted it's not Usopp, but at the same time it is :P lol

This post is deleted!

hey, be nice. you might not be good at something too. at least they tried and had fun.
-
Half the people who cosplay just do it for fun, and in the end, that's what matters the most. As long as they have fun with it and leave with a positive experiece to either do more/improve, all the more power to them.
-
That's true, Ichnob, but that doesn't mean I have any less a right to voice my opinion.
Of COURSE there are things I'm not good at. Otherwise, I would be perfect. But if I suck at something, I want others to inform me. Otherwise, I just keep making myself look like a douche that much longer.
Which is not to say that's what these people are doing. Like you said, Usopp, these people aren't trying. Which is why they shouldn't take offense if I express my freedom of speach.
-
That's true, Ichnob, but that doesn't mean I have any less a right to voice my opinion.
Of CORSEits spelt OFCOURSE
and I would like, if a may, to point you at a section of the rules
"Don't be an ass/jerk. Be respective of other member's opinions.
– No trolling, bashing, or flaming. Respect all members, their opinions, and their posts."That a side back to topic
Most coplayers are girls like spork said
Most guys dont feel as open about making something and dressing up as girls do. -
I think maybe the cosplay bashing post was deleted so I don't know what was said, but I'm pretty sure I have a good idea.
So I keep asking myself..is this really a relevant thread? I don't honestly know more than like 5 guys who even cosplay. Girls SORELY outnumber guys when it comes to cosplay in general, a LOT of the time you'll see an amazing cosplay and think it's a guy, and NO.. you are wrong. That be a girl man. A lot of guys are like 'Cosplay..that's too embarrasing.' OR 'I'm not cosplaying that, I wanna cosplay something more complicated' and usually that excludes MOST of the Straw Hat pirates.
I don't know why guys don't do Usopp. I'm a girl, and I'm getting ready to cosplay him myself. Anyone who has a problem with that can either kiss my ass or keep it to themselves, cause I'll tell it to you straight. I don't care that I''m short, I'll damn well cosplay what ever the hell I want to. If I wanna cosplay Apoo, I'll be DAMNED if anyone will tell me I can't. I don't do much girl cosplay at all, reason why? Well that's simple. I don't much care for a lot of girl characters EXCEPT in One Piece. I'd love to cosplay the girls, but the guys are just too much fun. Usopp may appear simple, but holy HELL he's not, and anyone who's EVER cosplayed him knows this.
Number ONE : FAKE NOSE. If you apply it poorly you will probably be mocked by hardcore One Piece fans. I personally don't care. I get sooo excited to see One Piece cosplay since it's far and few between that I can hardly justify making fun of anyone for any reason unless I just don't like you personally.
Number TWO : Sling Shot/Awesometastic bag/Kabuto : ALL OF THESE WILL HAVE TO BE MADE. Good luck finding a bag that looks JUST like Usopps..we've tried, YOU WON'T. My sister made hers. She's made her sling shot. She lacks the Kabuto but is working on it. Usopps props are MUCH more complicated than a straw hat or a cigarette.
I'm actually kinda shocked that a guy wouldn't want to bare their chest. I wish to god I didn't have boobs so I could bare mine. Another thing that bothers me about peoples opinions on cosplay. People..I was BORN A GIRL. Most anerexic cosplayers just don't understand what having a D cup means, and therefore, I bind as BEST I can..but sadly with boobs this huge, it's hard to be completely flat, but at least I make an effort. And again, I AM A GIRL, and if people who bitch about girls cosplaying guys with boobs hav ea problem, they can figure out a way to bind better so we can be flat, I have not figured it out yet.
So I'm sure this post didn't have too much to do with Usopp, but I absolutely LOATH it when someone makes fun of cosplayers or says they're bad/terrible/suck when they probably don't have cosplay at all, or nothing that's that good themselves.
-
That's true, Ichnob, but that doesn't mean I have any less a right to voice my opinion.
That's true, this forum is a little nazi when it comes to posting cosplay pictures.
No guys? Lemme digg up some old old old 05 photos.
Notice the bandana falling off after walking around in those tight-ass value village overalls.
Here's one without the nose. I made the nose out of a rubber glove and some filler to stuff it. It worked out for the convention, but definitely not as good as the real rubber nose I got 2 months later.Wow, these photos are old.
-
LynValentine, thatyou for pointing out my typo. I, too, am up-tight about grammar. Unfortunately, You forgot to put a space between of and course.
Waaaait a minute, aren't you just dictating the British version of the word on me? I know how they like to put u's where they aren't needed.
MoonNeko, I said that they were the worst cosplayers I've ever seen (I meant as a group, if that makes it any better. Probably not.) and that I mistook Robin for Lucci. In those exact words, too, if you will believe it.
To make the critizism more constructive and therefore more worth not deleting, Chopper was horribly mis-poportioned and had floppy antlers. Sanji was blocked from view, so I can only assume he was the best of the bunch. Both Luffys had too much facial hair and the darker one didn't even have the right hat. Sogeking's mask seems to be made out of paper mache when it could have just as easily been made out of carboard or something else less flimsy. Aside from Franky having a metal nose and Ace Ventura(ish) hair but not Pop-Eye arms, his simulation of wearing only a speedo was terribly baggy. Would it be another critizism to say that the Jolly Roger appeared to have been drawn by Luffy?
-
well that's more constructive, but you know, my mother used to say "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" This thread is about usopp cosplayers, not about rating costumes, anyways, so criticizing is a little off topic.
-
wow that's really tearing them down O___O I mean… they obviously were cosplaying for FUN not as professionals. I mean if you wanna see like the BEST COSPLAY EVAR you should try the other thread xD here's this one.
http://www.apforums.net/showthread.php?t=15895
that has some of the most AMAZING COSPLAY of One Piece.
and when did this little Usopp thread become about bashing and tearing apart peoples costumes O___O;I know my cosplay isn't perfect but I sure have fun with it xD I mean I could tear my own cosplay apart honestly with critisisum but why would I O__O I didn't ask for it and I am not a professional xD
seriously I think most Usopp cosplayers cosplay him either because they LOVE Usopp and he's their favorite, or their friends chose everyone else and they're like 'you get to be Usopp!!!'
BTW Strings your Usopp is so cute ;3; not enough male Usopps out there xD
-
@Cross.:

Freud would probably find Zoro a more obvious choice. He has three phallic symbols.
-
What if I critizise Usopp cosplayers? Besides, I always hated that saying for lack of room to critizise.
I point out my own flaws all the time. My Brook had a fleshy neck, his tophat wouldn't stay up properly, the purple paint on the cane didn't dry fast enough, and his face kept hanging whenever I looked down. Every time I build lego or Spore fanart, I try to list as many flaws as I can so that others and I know what to improve.
In the end, though, critizising someone who isn't serious about their work is just as much a waste of time as doing a poor job in the first place. As nerds, we have perfected the art of wasting time.

rofl This is true.

someone doesn't have a lot of esteem if he has to "waste his time" as you said, to put down other people's work. Also, if you had to list all your flaws so no one could criticize you. I think Greg had a thread about people like that, a while back.
-
Have I ever expressed how much I HATE people who criticize others cosplays, but won't show pics of themselves for US to criticize? How unjust.

Yeah, me [Franky], Sogeking, and Chopper put a lot of work into our costumes and we spent a year making them too. Our Sanji and Robin were last minute cosplayers I called up less than a week before the day of to ask if they could do it (both ours dropped out).
The point of cosplaying is to have fun, not the world's best cosplay. But even so, we really don't want to hear other people's negative comments on them :/

EXACTLY!!! FOR FUN!!!! I never try to be the best, I'm not competing for a prize and I know being as short as I am I'll NEVER be accurate as a LOT of somewhat 'elitist' cosplayers are only interested in accurate height comparisons, automatically making me feel as though I suck. Honestly I stopped caring long ago, as I can have an accurate costume and be my normal height, OR I can attempt to get giant super huge 6 inch heals, ONLY honestly making me 5'6'' which is still.. pretty short really compared to that 5'6'' cosplayer wearing 6 inch heals xDD I'd rather be comfortable thankyou very much. I really enjoyed your guys costumes, infact I wish I could of hung out with you guys, sounds like you had a lot of fun! It's really hard to find people where I live impossible actually who are even INTO cosplaying, not to mention One Piece.
-
My main irk for OP cosplayers are mostly aimed towards really lazy Luffy cosplayers. "Oh, I'll just cut the sleeves off a shirt, and bam! I'm a cosplayer!" Sometimes the easiest cosplays require a lot more work than you'd like, so at least TRY!
Take the photo that iMustang posted. One of the Luffys doesn't have a strawhat, his "vest" has 6 buttons, and it also lacks a V-cut. rage At least with iMustang and his group Chopper and Sogeking, while it might not be the best cosplay, you can see effort put into it. First cosplays also make you realize what you can try to do better for next time. By all means critique, but try to offer advice. Hell, my first Sogeking mask turned out pretty crappy IMO. In fact, I'm still not happy with the 3rd version. Here's hoping the 4th one will be the last.
-
actually, ya, that's a good point about cosplayers that don't try. I actually have cosplayed L, myself, but I did put effort into it. I don't even wear jeans. EVER. and I died my own hair black just for the cosplay, and shopped EVERYWHERE for the PERFECT white sweater. My lazy ass cosplay is Sanji, cause I pretty much have his hair style nad color, and my interview clothes look a lot like his regular outfit. I ended up throwing that on last year, as my cosplay I was working on fell through. Not this year though. I'm guaranteeing it.
I think i'd attempt usopp if I could find some brown overalls. You don't find overalls period anymore though. and I am picky when it comes to matching things up.
-

Quoted for truth, people. While I do not see a problem with critiquing people's work (art, cosplay, etc) I hate it when people don't give advice to back it up. I usually try to give suggestions when I can, and I like to hear what people think of my work, that includes both art and cosplay.
I'm obviously a girl, I've cosplayed Usopp once. I may not do it again, but it was kinda fun. There are ways to get around the boobage XD (Since, like Mel, Neko has D cups lol) I was lucky enough to have both a binding shirt and a flesh colored tanktop that matches my latina skin XD
I did put work into it, like I made the spirit warding flag and a crappy attempt at the hat with the goggles, and I even sewed the arm band myself. Charli helped me out with the overalls, we found a pair that were khaki colored and we dyed them brown.
All in all, it was a decent effort, but I had fun despite drama that went on that year.
-
Have I ever expressed how much I HATE people who criticize others cosplays, but won't show pics of themselves for US to criticize? How unjust.
Fair enough. Is this the fattest Zoro you've ever seen? That took me a month.
As far as being picky goes, I always excuse details regarding DNA. The only reason I mentioned the facial hair is because removing it is easy and commonly practiced.
-

I think, I stated this in another thread. However, when I was visiting Vancouver, this one anime shop was selling an "official" L costume. It's funny cause official to them means HK bootleg costumes that are mass produced. It came complete with a sweater, jeans from Zellars/Wal-mart and a fake HK Death Note. It was priced at 70 dollars. I bought it instantly and it brings me love and joy every single night.
-
That sounds like a much worse idea than aany lazy cosplay. Surely that was atleast $60 that could have been used to make several decent cosplays of difficult characters like Ryuk, Alphonse, or Hell maybe even a fishman.
-
Man…you can totally find a complete L costume at a thrift store or Salvation Army/Goodwill.
-
Strings. man. I wish I had your money. :P ($70 for an L costume shakes head)

Ouch, I thought from the comment about how an L cosplay would bring me love, happiness and joy, that it was an obvious joke. Yikes.
-
dies oh god I thought it was a joke xD L is probably the most easily cosplayed character in history… I mean you guys think Luffy looks simple but he's not O___O so many people don't get it right xD But L.... if you have a white sweater, jeans, and some eyeliner... you're L O___O I've even seen blonde people cosplay him... and you know it's L... especially when they're barefoot. It's a little harder when the L is wearing sneakers.
not bashing L cosplay but seriously xD my Usopp cosplay took FOREVER and I didn't even get one glomp... I'll bet half assed closet L's get glomps ALL FUCKING DAY! Where's the phalic shaped nose love man!? xDDD
-
I don't glomp, but I'd give you a high-five. ^5
-
I didn't even get high 5's…. or smiles... xDDDD I'd so take a high 5! slaps hand when I cosplayed Buggy and Youshi was shanks I glared at girls who hugged her and not me until they reluctantly hugged me too xDDD
-
HA I totally got kissed on the cheek by a Sanji fangirl when I cosplayed as Sanji beams That will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER ..happen again..EVER.
-

Yeah, our Luffy was rather difficult to put together. Especially the hat
-
Several months after I cosplayed as Luffy, my mom got the PERFECT STRAWHAT out of her closet.
But nooo, we had to ruin one of Dad's cowboy hats.
