While that is awesome, this thread is merely a game (the first post explains that as well as I could at the time). You can always post in those songs, though, in the format of the game.

That was a pretty good. Like Spanish type of music mixed in with Japanese. Going by the singer and how well she matched her voice up with the song, it was really enjoyable. God knows what they are saying but I had fun listening to it. The video wasn't that bad either I guess but I doubt this would be something I would ever watch.

I really, really, like this song. I love the roots, but i'd never heard of this album or heard this song. the jazz instrumentals (in particular the bass for me) give it a great musical depth. the vocal loops at the beginning and end were great, but i guess i would have preferred more actual rapping.
Here's mine; (sorry i don't know how to embed)
Not a bad song. Has a nice and exhilirating beat to it. As usual, I have no idea what Ozzy is saying, but I guess that's what the lyrics list in the description is for. Nothing fantastic, but it's a good song that I wouldn't mind listening to any time.
Aix03KSesoE
I was not expecting that. At the beginning will all those bleeps and bloops I was thinking that this would be some techno song but I tell you when that guy started singing, this song turned around quick. I tell people on here that I enjoy their songs and I appreciate what they do but this may be the first one that I actively look for and put on my Ipod. I love music like this. The guys voice and the atmosphere are amazing. It feels like the Beatles at their best. Wow, this one was a good one.
J Dilla's and Nujabes's birthdays and anniversaries of their deaths are coming up in February so till then all I am going to be posting is J Dilla and Nujabes songs.
Might have posted this one before but this song is good enough to post twice.
_PBLYP6eF5s
another genuinly great hip hop song. loved the record scratching, the minimalistic sax(i think thats what it was) and the melodic chorus.
Ahh this is a good one. Love the lyrics for this song. Love genuinely happy and carefree songs like this. It really makes me want to smile. Classic rock is a genre I can really appreciate. The lyrics are top notch with a good message and most of all the beat with the drums and the epic guitar really make this song a full experience. Joe Walsh is definitely someone I will put on my future artists to research.
Nujabes is one of the few artists I have listened to that have actually made me tear up. You know some people in this world just in general don't like to listen to music and I find that really sad for them. Good music has the power to really make you happy and in my opinion change you into a better person. Someone once called it a massage for the soul and when I listen to Nujabes I really feel like the vibrations of the sounds are going into my body and gently stroking my soul. A lot of Nujabes's music doesn't have words. If you really think about it, it is incredible how just a bunch of sounds thrown together can effect a person so drastically. I know it might sound like a exaggerated experience but that is the best way I can put it into words.

this song really says better than words what you say in your post about emotions being conveyed through music itself instead of a song's lyrics. The layering of instruments (the bass entering in particular) gives constant swell to the soft, sorrowful underlying piano part which introduces and finishes the song. I also love the anime imagery in the video and the classical instruments used in the loops. I'd say it feels simplistic, but that is not at all a bad thing in this song. I sincerely mean it when i say i'm looking forward to hearing what else you have to post.

The anime pictures thrown into the video weren't just random. The guy who did that song also did most of the hip hop music for Samurai Champloo.
Also, thanks for the comments. A lot of people have been saying that they liked what I post or that they look forward to what I post next and seriously guys you have no idea what that means to me. I've been trying to spread the music that I like to all my cousins and my friends around my same age group and very few if any have really appreciated it all. Before I started going to this thread and other similar threads like this on other forums, I really started to feel as though that my taste in music was weird. All I really want to do and my purpose for posting in this thread is maybe spread some new music around that many of you many not have heard before and see if I can broaden you music libraries, nothing more nothing less. Anyway this a long time coming but thank you to bravewarrior, Wagomu, m00n, supa, cahum, cream of chicken, Aoiria, burley, hyperkinetic, holy hell, platz, grizz, josh, gypsy, bartart, smigu, tigerlily, nufiasco, kellseatyou, tjinn, ruffy, kobe, keraie, caster, roz, oni, pwnobi, lapen, martie, sufjan, tyndel, keane, phantomlord, flamigo, solo, shuura, samijun, and cosmic. As I looked back to get all of these names it really brings back good memories.
Hey, now, that's what the thread is all about. Spreading the good music. You should really join in the radio game when you get to college. You've got good tastes and bring in a lot of interesting music by lesser-known people/groups. I would listen to a show of yours. Hell, you're influencing one of mine, haha.

About a minute into the song, I realize that I've heard this before, though I guess I never payed full attention to it. Is it just me, or is there some mild indie influence here? I'm getting some vibes along those lines. The song has a pretty nice flow. It feels like a breathing pattern, but that's just my own first impressions. There's a lot of nice things going on here. It's very mellow with haunting vibes here and there. It's a pretty nice sound and the grandiose bits don't betray it. Not bad at all.
M5bjYhwJTiI
And now for something completely different…
I'm gonna be honest: that song was murder on my ears for the first two or three minutes (you can tell I don't go to a lot of concerts). While I can appreciate the intensity of the first half, it did sound like just noise at parts. The second half, however, was really nice. Loved the gentle guitar tune (especially considering what preceded it) and it had a very soothing and relaxing rhythm.
@Hawkeye: Hey, for what it's worth, I really appreciated the kind words you had to say about my music selection. Everyone likes hearing appraisals for their tastes in music (and other things). And I'm glad I could introduce you to a song that you enjoyed so much.
VEPEPYXcVZk
great energy and a lovely instrumentally rhythmic feel to it. i play a bit of bass so its nice to hear a track where the bass is such a prominent a feature. gotta love the vocal layers as well. maybe a little too pop for my personal tastes, but as far as pop-rock goes, its good stuff.
@Hawkeye, don't worry about it mate. this thread is a golden. i came to it mostly to broaden my musical knowledge, so keep posting the old-school/alternative hip hop and whatever else you have to share and even if people don't like it, i guarantee it will still be appreciated.
As expected very trippy. I haven't heard anything by them past Trukin which I liked more than this song. Sugar Magnolia is even softer than Trukin. I imagine I'd like it more if I heard it as supposed to be in a round of fiends with a joint circling instead of sitting alone in front of a Pc. As it is. Good to okay.
I feel with you Hawkeye. While finding people who like rather well known bands that I like has never been a problem, people who like the obscure music that crosses borders, pushes to the extreme or is simply old is rare. I have a few friends that are into good hip hop and some that are into good metal but many just listen to the short rotation on radio and the ever repeating summer hits and Schlager for drunken Ibiza tourists. So it's really nice to have a bunch of fellows who don't go what the heck is that when I give them Chuck Berry to listen to :D

A lot of people now a days really misinterpret metal as just screaming and a crazy instruments in background but I tell you man back in the 70 and 80s metal was a total different animal. I am no expert but I did listen to Iron Maiden back in the day and songs like this that start of so calming with that beautiful guitar going and gradually start getting crazy man. You can really appreciate the contrast. Really great guitar playing throughout the whole song and you gotta love the guy singing at the end for a minute.
Jay Dee was not known for his rapping but personally I think he had a unique way of vocalizing and his mastery of matching his voice with the beat is incredible.
w9BXgvERVr4
This song is all about the rapping. Some of them are good and some of them are bad, but you got to love the J Dilla background music.
I can't agree with you. I think the rapping was pretty tight throughout. I'm in the camp, though, that focuses more on rhythmic quality, though, than anything else. I can see what you mean, though, that the song is about rapping. The music is relatively static throughout (and also pretty sweet. Nothing too revolutionary, but solid nonetheless), so the song is carried by the vocals. The rappers each have pretty distinct vocals, too, which I love. It makes me think back to most other genres of music, where that's equivalent to making the drummer switch sets every verse. The song is grounded in the groove, but the dynamic rhythm allows it to change flow at the same time. And it's not like this is the first time I've heard such a thing, but it really stands out in this song to me. Very nice track.
jIMxVbhanEs
As a big fan of good music producers I love sound effects that enhance music and I tell whatever they did to that guitar in the beginning really made this song. It sounds somewhat faded away and the rhythm of it was just so fun, if that is the right word. Once the song really starts to going you can't help but just start nodding your head to it. The guys voice is pretty good. He shows great versatility in this song from singing normally, to grunting, to the high pitched screaming/singing. Good stuff.
I have just been posting Nujabes songs with beats on it so I got one with people actually rapping on it.

Great flowing rapping with very little breaks, strong rhythmic feel delivered by the varied percussion instruments, with a pleasant melodic overlying tune provided by classical instruments make a great track. also love the way some of the instruments get cut out at parts of it to give it that building feel.

Brian Wilson is an incredible musician. The term genius is thrown around a lot but, as far as musicians are concerned, Brian Wilson fits the bill to a T. The only thing I don't like about that song is that it fades when it does! Really, that it ends at all…
A deep cut from Billy Joel's "The Nylon Curtain" album:
ZQZjjTI2pUg
Definitely a nice Joel tune there. I really dig the juxtaposition of the more upbeat verses and the downbeat bridge. It gives it a very 'adventurey' feel. I'm also feeling a tinge of psychedelic influence and a few prog vibes which I love. I really love the synthesizer sound in particular. It definitely contributes the most to the atmosphere of the song that I'm loving. And not to dwell on the video rather than the music, but the synchronized snare drummer setup made me laugh. It really is funny, seeing any choreographed live routines.
qJy-hdKT5wM
The album I've been dwelling on for the past week (at least the one that most of you guys would find listenable, haha). So good…
I might be a stereotypical, non-metal fan but I lot of what I hear now a days is all just a bunch of screaming and yelling; just like how people judge Hip Hop on all the mainstream artists and say that they don't talk about anything but drugs and getting laid. And yet Hip Hop is not only what you see on the surface. You guys who post all the songs like this make me see the good metal as well. This song may go unappreciated to a casual listener but there is so much meaning in this song. Really these people are good.
Lets take a little break from the Nujabes/J Dilla marathon I have going on.

Nujabes <3
I liked the song, it provides that chill hip-hop you sometimes can't help but need. I hadn't heard of them, but the voices sounded familiar, especially in the beginning. Are any of them also solo artists?
Here's mine! From the Belgian band dEUS, they're pretty big here, no idea if they have any international fame.
The song is a little old (nineties) but still one of the best rock songs ever made in my opinion.
h3r7Oo0Fs-8
They're at least somewhat popular here in the Netherlands.
I love dEUS, but I never cared much for Worst Case Scenario to be honest. Pocket Revolution and The Ideal Crash are much better in my opinion. But still, Suds & Soda is one of the best songs from WCS.

I must admit, I am very new to Elbow. I first heard them sometime last year and was totally blown away… then, for whatever reason, I never got around to checking into more of their stuff. This song is absolutely incredible! I love how it has that old English blues rock feeling while still sounding totally contemporary. I'm such a sucker for a great, bluesy riff. Thank you for reminding me I have to get their stuff!
Next up; Something silly:
http://listen.grooveshark.com/s/Cats+Vs+Dogs/2qpWTT?src=5
I love it.
Man those lyrics are cheesy. I can't tell if they're being sung straight or not. Usually I don't comment on lyrics, but those just stuck out like a sore thumb here. Sonically, the song isn't bad. Nice and perky with some odder sounds here and there. I particularly like a lot of effects in there around the end. Something feels Zappa-inspired about it, which is always a plus in my eyes. I just wish he had kept up with that. This would have worked much better if the entire song was absurd along those lines. Unfortunately, it feels way too held back. Matthew Sweet needs to let loose and embrace the insanity!
ZOVhMbjy18I
I know I have posted enough Mountain Goats in here, but I thought I would sneak one more in there. This is their new song from the upcoming album, which is why I put it up, in particular.
Hey nothing wrong with promoting a good band.
Love the instrumentation in this song. its so simple and never over elaborate, and so very well arranged to make a fantastic song. I love the piano chords, making real use of the percussion instrument it is. The singing also stood out to me, it had a real passion to it. and i loved how it was arranged in short lines with musical filler between. with a steady drum beat in the background holding it together, all the different parts of the song felt really well strung together.
Now for my song:

Yeah, for any fan of MF Doom and Madlib this is one of the most famous songs of their collaboration. Personally I think all the Madvillain songs are incredible and really unique, and though this song may get a lot of youtube hits, I think there are even better ones on the album. Still, saying there are better songs on an incredible album isn't really putting down this song at all. I am just telling you so you can go check them out if you haven't already. Anyway you really have to love Madlib beats. They just want to make you start bobbing your head to them. As expected MF Doom has his deep rhymes that you really have to sit down and truly listen to them to appreciate them at there utmost. Good song.
Found like 3 new Japanese producers I'm really digging. Here's one.
TAj_b_nIaQQ
I actually listened to it twice in a row:
Since it's really jazzy I naturally loved the intro. The bassline is what stuck in my head the most. I didn't like the beat when I first heard it but It started to "grow on me" in the middle of the song (I don't know if "I got used to it" doesn't sound to degrading). I actually liked it more when the beat became more electronic (towards the end) and kinda wished the producer would have injected a few more effects (even though I don't usually like those).
What I noticed the second time around was that the saxophone was a little to dominant (especially in the beginning). A little less would've made the song more relaxing. Another thing I've noticed is that the outro is actually my favourite part. It just sounds really good after the beat and the sax faded.
Moving on:

Ooo Aesop Rock. First song in awhile that I was excited to listen to before actually listening to it. Wow, anyone listening to the beginning of the song would never expect that this would be a hip hop song. Aesop Rock is really a great rapper man. His rapping actually has some meaning to it. "Run from the fountain but the fountain is a desert optical tease" I mean seriously this guy rapping style probably one of the uniquest out there. Like the background music but at times I feel like it doesn't match with his flow, though it matches pretty well with what he is saying. Love it.

Not a bad version but that one I have on my computer is so much better. Ehhh, see how you like it I guess.
Nice song, very catchy and chill.
Here's mine, I'm curious to find out what AP thinks about dubstep :)

I was really digging the song at the beginning and then they second guy started singing and I couldn't stop laughing. Anyway, I tried to listen to this song without looking at the video and I thought it was pretty good. Nice calm little beat going on, with some really deep lyrics. What else can you really ask from a song? Kinda depressing but hey if that's what the songs goal was it succeeded.
Anyway for Valentine's day I chose a pretty good song for one and only love.

The people in the video are all famous Belgian musicians from different bands. It's pretty cool if you know them :)
Thread revival!
You know, I want to like the hip hop genre. I really do. But thus far I'm still just really "meh" about it. Now, there are a few hip hop songs I really like, but the rest just sound really ordinary and interchangeable. So, I want to assure you, any "meh"-ness I may have felt about the song isn't because of the song itself, but more because of my indifference towards the genre. But anyway, it wasn't a bad song. Had a nice tune and vocals, but not really something I think I'll remember or listen to again.
P9mwELXPGbA
That's an epic intro. The awkward transition to the actual song kinda sucks but once you get over that the groove is pretty sweet. I used to hate this style of really synthetic 80s pop music but in the last several years I've really come to appreciate how clean and crisp a lot of it is. There's something brittle about those synths and drum machines that is really appealing given how saturated everything has to sound these days. It's probably slick enough to have been on Thriller and you'd never know the difference (provided Michael was singing it).
16g0M3lJvio
Oh man, you really do have good taste. I have never heard these guys before, but this piece was fantastic. Exciting, driving, yet still pleasantly calm and hypnotic. The drums and keys are totally in sync. The key work is especially impressive, with just the right combination of melody and rhythm. They really use the two pianists to their full extent. I can't neglect the drums, either. They refuse to skip a beat and they've got magnificent momentum and I can really hear that in the song as a whole. I love how jazzy the song is while still progressing very slowly.
wPn0Qz79Xss
Man, I'm glad someone posted this one youtube. These guys were the first doom band I heard (yes, before I knew guys like Candlemass and Trouble. I was a late bloomer for metal). I really find a strange beauty in their work. I'll let you be the judge, though.
This was a longer song. Really love the beginning and how it keeps repeating the same thing over and over again with minor changes which come slowly and really build into that really intense beat which happens at around the 3 minutes mark. When the singing the comes, I started to lose a little bit of interest but that beat kept me hanging on. So epic, it really makes me want to get up and just start jumping and banging my feat. Around the 5 minute mark the beats slows down and gives a little time to recuperate and enjoy the mellow beat, but once again at the 6 minute mark it gets epic again and this time with the guy not screaming but actually saying something that can be understood and the song was the better for it. The guitar in this song is so good man.

Just started listening to Little Brother. Good stuff.
Good song to listen to when lovesick. Sums that feeling up nicely.
Solid beat and cool lyrics, especially in the chorus. I have to say I enjoy the first part a bit more than the second. I'm liking the deeper stronger voice of the male singer just a tad more, harmonizes a bit more with the beat for me In comparison the female vocals seem a bit flimsy, but they have some nice melody going on. Also interesting to hear the change of perspective in the chorus, nice touch. However I think I need to be in the right mood to fully appreciate this song.
Time for some slightly eccentric Little Dragon, but they are somehow so very soothing.[hide]PMaXjvJ_4xo[/hide]
Wow, that was pretty good of a song. I'll admit I rarely to songs like that but I'm willing to extend my listen boundaries. I also have to agree, it is soothing with the melody and the rhythm really gets you going with a smile.
Also, the instruments were unique and there are some I didn't expect to see in the video (like the drum/gong things (I apologize…I'm not that good at figuring these outs).
All in all, good pick.

Here's a song I've been listening to for an unhealthy amount of times. It's in Japanese and quite honestly, taste may vary (I kind of have a lousy taste in things like my own music to be honest) but I think it's enjoyable.
I feel like this song is really trapped in a no man's land. It's okay as is, but I can't think of it being any good unless it were either more or less energetic. The tempo and melody fit awkwardly together. The more 'epic' parts of the song are completely undermined by lack of speed and the main riff loses its power thanks to whatever energy is in the song. The opening more acoustic part was actually pretty decent, which leads me to believe they could have done better sticking with that style. This is all soundtrack, though, so I'm sure context is key.
XMZHdPb5Lxk
First track off of Cold Cave's new album. It progressively gets better with each track, in my mind, but this was all there was on youtube.
First of all I love any type of electronic music. Second of all, I'm going to have to explore this band further.
fQ4f_lgdYz8
Some great Indie music right here.
Is this thread bugged or something? I have a feeling posts are dissapearing. Including one of mine!
@moose: Now that was good. Been a while since I've heard a song like that. Had a very groovy 60's/70's-ish feel to it (or maybe that's my initial impression of the video talking). I can definitely appreciate a nice, vibrant, energetic, yet also easygoing song like this. This song is also great in that, at the risk of sounding sexist, while I tend not to enjoy female artists nearly as much as I do male artists, I thoroughly enjoyed this woman's performance. Definitely a damn fine song overall and I wouldn't mind listening to it again.
Now here's a sample from my favorite band of all time.
