Looking into buying a new computer.

Before I say anything, my range is 400-500 dollars USD(which I should be getting in March). I'm no PC gamer, nor I really care about the higest settings when I do. Games being playable is all I care about.

I mainly use the computer for Adobe programs like PS, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Flash, ect, ect. I also used Painter at one point but stopped since my current computer started crashing. Multitasking with these programs would be cool, but not necessary. What I care about is speed, but nothing high end.

Another important thing is it being easy to maintain. My current computer started having overheating problems and even though I changed the fans, and blew out the dust, I could not resolve the issue. We live in a poorly ventilated house, and due to this we never use Air Conditioning. My room gets really, really hot and while I don't mind it, my current computer suffered for this. These days I can't even use it without waiting for the temperatures to drop >_> I'm not sure if this is a realistic demand, but a computer that can survive in a hot room would be perfect.

Another thing I'm looking into is recording games, video editing, and maybe 3D modeling. With that, think that's about it.

Anyone got any suggestions? PC or Mac, I don't really care. Leaning towards PC more though.

I wouldn't imagine the temperature of the room would seriously affect the temperature of the computer. You might want to look into building one.

Do you want to buy one that is already assembled or (assuming you don't want a laptop) would you be willing and able to assemble one yourself?

You can usually get a bit more bang for your buck if you DIY.

@S7: I would not mind trying to build one myself, as long I know what I'm doing. I'm not afraid to try.

@Sakon: Well, the computer does crash when the room is hot as opposed to not crashing at all when the room is cold. I could assume it's related to the power supply or something, but Dell made the thing complicated as hell to remove.

Perhaps the room is part of the problem but there's probably not enough cooling in it. If you want to build it yourself I could probably help you a little. The $500 limit will probably be kind of annoying but you'll probably be able to get a decent computer.

Thanks. If it wasn't for Sakon, I'd probably not even get the list.

One more thing though. Does anyone know much about Video capture? I'm looking into recording games and other stuff.

Fraps does it. I'm not sure of other programs, though.

I know about Fraps, but I'm more talking about Video Capture Cards to connect and record from a console game. Just asking to see if anyone's familiar with it. If now, it's no big deal.
