Isn't it amazing what I can do when I actually have free time? Here's the interview with Oda from One Piece Blue Grand Data File.
Enjoy

Thank you! Cool, though nothing really special.
sweet.
Nausicaa still makes me weep like a school girl. :'(
Nice stuff, thanks omae.
Cool, though nothing really special.
Really? How closely did you read?
Note his favorite Directors. Tim Burton is among them and Nightmare Before Christmas is among his favorite films. Oda mentioned separately that he always intended Buggy to be Boogy but since it was used in a film he couldn't. It's quite obvious that, that was due to Nightmare Before Christmas' Boogie-Woogie.
Note his interest in Soul music. This may very well be the origin of his infusion of the 'soul brother' spirit seen throughout the series as often brought up by Sanji.
Check out his favorite Director, Akira Kurosawa and note Oda's hobby is film appreciation. Kurosawa directed the film Rashomon and Zoro just recently pulled off a move by the same name.
For years fans have compared Robin to Pulp Fiction's Uma Thurman. And now we see one of his favorite Directors is Tarantino.
Lest we forget his interest in Baz Luhrman who directed Moulin Rouge, MANY of Oda's colorspreads are quite like the colorful and intricate world created in that film.
It's a lot more than just data on OP. It's about learning about the man who makes OP come to life and a careful reader can start to see where Oda's inspiration comes from :)

Ah, yes it's fun to read but… I don't care about so much, though Im glad that he likes Soul, becasue I also do that.. ^^ And he likes Eminem.. :D rofl
Ah, yes it's fun to read but… I don't care about so much
spoken like a true fan
Now off to training again. Enjoy everyone!
Awesome. I never would have thought of Oda as an eminem fan.
Whoa, another sweet interview. Thanks again omae.
Awesome XD I love the sloth line for some reason. Thanks, omae.
Oda an Eminem fan…. you learn new things everyday.
Can't say I'm surprised about him liking Nightmare Before Christmas, seems like his type of story. The Eminem thing though, wow. I wonder how much of the lyrics he understands.
Actually, it's Oogie-Boogie. But the point is still made. So all is good. :)
Oda likes Eminem?
Don't be too suprised guys. (we already know he must like Snoop Dogg)
Why not be too suprised?
Well think about which character looks like Eminem….
hint: hes god!
So, in case there's ever an American-made, live-action movie, Jango and Eneru already have their ideal actors, at least based on looks and not acting skills.
thanks omae!
a little on the surprised side at a few things in there though
Wow, this one was nice and long. I always love learning about comic artists, but I hardly ever get to. Thanks.
goes off to buy full-body tights, Eminem CDs, and Westerns
Also, his answer to some of those questions were just great (what he'd be in 30 years, what kind of manga he'd like to do).
It's a very neat interview, but it didn't really say anything I already knew. I already read this in my own Blue Data File, but you sincerely have my gratitude for those translator notes and explanations. I honestly didn't grab that Morning Musume one.
spoken like a true fan
What's the cynical tone, here? You think you have any right to judge and measure somebody's fandom of a series merely based on a few comments they make on an interview?
Sorry, but that type of behaviour, even if it's ''just supposed to be a joke'' just pisses me off.

Weren't you the one who said that a true fan is just someone who sees One Piece and enjoys it? I thought this was a very cool interview too, but like Solid there's nothing too OMG AMAZING that'll make me orgasm at knowing. Just a bunch of fun trivia, in my opinion.
Anyway, that was a neat interview. Thanks.

You say Potato, I say "PO-TA-TOES" ^o^ Thanx dude!

May I introduce you to the International Symbol for I'm Roughing On You And If You Take It To Heart Especially On The Internet You're A JacKass Especially If You're Not The Person Who I'm Kidding With
PS
And for the record, there's only one person I know who deserves to be called a 'true fan'. His name is Eiichiro Oda and he's the only person I know who has devoted his life to OP.
Yhea, seriously. Calm down guys.
This is almost as stupid as Ivotas going nuts over someones use of a sarcastic smiley.
Its a very interesting interview if I do say so myself.
Find what makes the mind of the creator work. And learn about his creative process.
The most minute detail reveals so much.
To me, the smiley obviously indicated sarcasm. Now if you had said ''You're obviously not a true fan!!'' and then used a smiley, it would have been a joke. You said quite the opposite, then went up with the rolling eyes. Unless you're saying you were using a ''double double'' sarcastic joke, in which case it was entirely your fault for assuming everyone'd figure it out.
I've heard you call people's fandom into question before, in quite obviously serious contexts, so drawing the conclusion I did wasn't entirely unreasonable.
Perhaps you phrased it wrong, or perhaps you didn't mean to come across as insulting. I'd be perfectly fine with that… But then just say that instead of putting on a holier than thou attitude and using poor, defenseless smileys as an excuse.
Thank you. Ontopic. It's bliss.
Ah, the same ol' situation
Glad to see nothin changed round here.
So now there's a contest to who's tha "true OP fan" or what?
And if someone through a screen tries to joke around and you feel he insulted your "OP-filled heart", you start questionin the meanin and the use of the smilies!
Woo-hoo!
No, maybe this –-----> :P should be more right, eh?
clears throat Anyway, that was an awesome interview, thanks for posting it. Oda's such an interesting dude.
Maybe there should be a smiley of YO MAMA. Then we'll see whose offended!
I think it's always interesting when people start jumping to conclusions about how much someone has deeply injured and scarred an individual's soul when the person who I was talking with hasn't even said anything. This seems to happen a lot.
Mog, this should be in PM but I just think I should say this. I've never seriously questioned any fan's connection to OP. As Carter even mentioned I have and do defend the fact that anyone who watches, reads, dreams of or loves OP in any of its forms is a OP fan. Why do you think I defended dub fans when there was a big hub-bub over an increase in dub fans or their labeling as 'kiddies'. I don't know who you're confusing me with but that's not really fair to me to be throwing things around like that seriously.
Your interpretation is your issue and I'd be happy to discuss it with you in PM if you think I've violated someone's rights as a OP fan. I've already said, I would, ever, use the term 'true fan' in a serious context unless I was describing Oda. He's the only person that deserves such a status.
And for the record, I'm deeply sorry if I injured you Solid. Even though you haven't said anything on the matter.

You're welcome :)
I'm REALLY trying to picture Oda listening to Eminem. . . can't quite do it.
Thanks for the interview omae!

Have you seen some of his more detailed images found in Color Walk series? They're pretty nifty! I'd love to see how he could handle robots!
