One Piece anime turns up the fan service? (A study on anime/manga relations)

Ever notice how the One Piece anime turns up the fan service, compared to the manga? Notably with the suggestive shots of Nami.

Not a complaint mind you, I always enjoy the sex and violence in media. It is interesting though, and I wonder if Oda has any input on the adaptation process's details like this.

Some examples being small one-panel gags in the manga getting fleshed out a bit (pun intended) in the anime. Such as when the Den Den Mushi was in between Nami's breasts on the Sea Train, or when Nami changed her clothes (also on the Sea Train). Or Nami in the bath in the Thriller Bark arc.

Nothing perverse about this topic, just a scientific analysis of the manga/anime adaptation process.

What do you folks think?

I love the way it's phrased there. Something about the encyclopedic, dry way they discuss the science of the subject at hand there is funny.

Movie 8 also highlighted Nami a bit more than in the source material.

I for one find this quite fascinating.

Oda actually commented on the fanservice in movie 7. In short I believe he roughly said "Nami's breasts moved too much."

Also Oda-sensei got married around the time the fanservice appeared. Even the anime directors said they think it's because "Oda has a hot wife, so he's basically become insatiable." He's horny for his hot wife all day, but has to spend his days writing and drawing a comic instead. You figure it out.

As for the movies, they always featured more fanservice, but as the boobage in the manga increased(in size literally) they got more room to play with.

Oda didn't complain about the moving breasts though, he said it more in an enthusiastic way..something like "so i just watched the new movie this weekend and the boobs bounced a lot lol!!"

It's not like he wasn't expecting it when he made Nami's sizes suddenly develop like that..

Well, it's not like it's something unnatural^^ Womens' breasts grow with time especially when they're having plenty of fun (or constantly have to satisfy men if you believe in Straw Hat harem:ninja:)

According to the Directors, Movie 7 started out as a Joke.
They all sat at a table when they were talking about it, Oda included, and everybody joked about how Oda'd been making Nami's boobs steadily bigger and bigger and how, for movie 7 they should be bigger than her head. Someone else joked that they should bounce all the time too, and someone else added that they should have sound effects too. A Good Laugh was had by all…
then the first bit of the movie with Nami in it came back, and the stuff they were joking about somehow made it's way into the final animation pieces.

My Guess is that they have to up the fanservice at times to keep he Demographic appealing towards male fans who aren't kids, which is why the majority of the fanservice in the show (infact basically all of it) is Boobs, Boobs & more Boobs.

But, I mean I'm not comlaining, because I love Inoue's style, I think he makes the character look the closest to Oda's & I like the shiny touch
he adds, plus he gives the girls massive tits !

well all i can say is that probably Nami is maturing and in what i see breasts are part of a woman so maybe in manga knowledge the bigger firmer the breasts the more woman the girl is.

so in Nami's case maybe she is becoming a woman and well i am not complaining its not the guys that are getting fanservice but also the girls as well.

i don't know if you remember when Robin grabbed Franky's you know what to make him join and well they showed his butt so they have fanservice for both guys and girls.

When One Piece started most of the people that are here in the forum today were at an age fanservice is not needed. Eleven years later everyone who pick this show up in the first few years is. I think this explains. It's a shift of demographic.

The keyanimator does not draw every frame. He/she draws the first and the last frame of a movement. The animators that deal with this wired shots in between, like your third screenshot are ppl. who don't have much to say. Even if they notice the doublemeaning they might not even report it and critize the work of the keyanimtor. As for the boobs and asses you are right of course. That's all intentional.

Thankfully OP fanservice is every now and then in the anime and isn't spammed in every single episode so we can appreciate it more when its finally shown again.

Also, of course the anime would have more fanservice than the manga. Oda generally tries to move quickly through each scene so then the anime has a lot to work with, so the most we'd see is a panel or two of blatent fanservice. Very different from the animated version wherein we'd get at least 10 frames per second and the animators would purposely be stalling.

That's the difference between Nami and Robin

Nami is "Hot" but Robin is "Sexy." I care alot more when I see Robin strutting her stuff because she's the more mature character and not the typical shounen heroin that Nami is, (though she's one of the better ones).

Nami has the kind of street smart, tomboy, hollywood girl feel to her, while Robin is more of the smart and sophisticated working girl, and Hancock is the more regal and elegant classy girl.

I'm okay with it. I don't mind, obviously It's good to watch - but yeah, I agree they do. God knows what they were thinking with Movie 7, and the whole Bouncing Boobs thing! How that was planned must have been a very awkward board meeting

But yes, you're right they do. There was the Nami / Absalom Bath scene. There was the pervy old man trying to undress her. There was Nami wanting to undress on the Train. There was she and Robin's tits at Merry's funeral, there was her tits bouncing during the Spa Island arc, etc

I guess they just do it to increase appeal from the male audience or something.

From my understanding of the subject, Japanese children find fanservice/sexuality hilarious, thus its inclusion in a Shonen title. Actually, in retrospect, don't all children? I remember when I was a little kid I use to find nudity bloody hysterical.

No.

Though, it is definetly true that shows with fanservice get a hell'ava lot more views than animes which don't. Sort of proved in 80% of youtube videos out there too.
