After I seen the other thread was at about 230 pages, I figured it may be time to separate topics again. Just like when they made a topic just for the TV discussion, this will be a topic for the DVDs that have already been released. That way the other thread can remain as discussion for upcoming DVDs or production info.

So with the new topic I'll just post my thoughts on the recently released Season One - Fourth Voyage (pasted):

Gotta say… I expected more from Believe. It was passable I guess, but I couldn't stand most the vocals. And the commentary was ok on Luci's part, but having a director instead of a VA didn't sit well with me. Though I will say it was better than Eric's commentary; at least we got some good production info.

Aside from that, 4th Voyage was great. I kinda prefered Smoker's 4Kids voice, but the Funi one works too. Oh yes, and I loved the 'shit' Funi threw in with Buggy XP I can't wait for Season 2 - Second Voyage, it'll be great (not buying S2 1V)

You know you be skipping Laboon and proably all of Whisky Peak right? If Season 2, First Voyage ends up being 14 episodes.

Not to mention The Straw hats entering the Grand Line and Laboon
Apis really wasn't THAT bad. Plus, Movie 8 shows that FUNi has a knack for making something shitty better with their dub
Oh, Also! This set we'll get to hear Caitlin Glass as Vivi again!! not to mention Mr. 5 and Ms. Valentines Day!
and Come to think of it, If FUNi gives us 14 eps it would kinda "Make up" for the rest of the Set being Filler, maybe they will!!

I'm definitely getting S1:V4 as well as the ones that will follow…whether it be cannon or filler. The Apis Arc is not worth skipping S2:V1. And like previously stated, Movie 8's english dub helped make the movie all the more tolerable and I'm more than sure that the Apis Arc will also gain that same positive aspect. And the Laboon and Whiskey Peak episodes are also more than reason enough to get the S2:V1 set. ^^

In the event that all of Whiskey Peak is covered, then I probably will buy S2 1V. However if it ends right before the Zoro and Luffy fight then there really is no point. I might still get it eventually, but it's not high on the priority list like the last 4 releases have been.

Though even if I buy it I still won't watch the filler… which actually sounds even more stupid, but still

It WILL include the Luffy Vs Zoro Ep.
If it only includes 13 eps, it will end with Zoro and Luffy going "SHUT THE HELL UP, STOP INTERFERING IN OUR FIGHT!!" and hitting Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine away

I liked believe, it sounded right.
only gripe of mine is that the singer could have put more emotion in the chorus.

I'm not big on Believe - it has some good points, but I agree on the chorus. I like some of the Funi dub songs, but I can't say this is one of my favorites.

I really preferred the other version (the one that was made but never used), despite the inaccurate lyrics. The voice matched better and the chorus was great IMO

I agree about the chorus. I wasn't feeling a lot of emotion in this song that much. Still turned out okay though. Still haven't bought any of the dvds. Haven't downloaded them either. So I've just been working with the clips I've been given. I should actually be getting all 4 sets sometime in May.

If anyone skips out on S21V just because of the Apis arc, they're fucking stupid and need to be hit with a weapon.

As for the DVDs, I was never a fan of Believe, so I just skipped FUNi's rendition like I skipped the Japanese one, so that didn't matter. I will say, though, that Smoker's english voice was fuckall awesome, and sounded appropriately cancer-ish. No man who smokes two simultaneous cigars should have any voice that isn't raspy as shit. Also, MacFarlane was on the motherfuckin' ball as Buggy! I mean, his Buggy usually rocks, but his delivery was awesome in this one. His "what just happened" moment in Buggy's Big Adventure had me rolling in my chair!

I wouldn't worry too much, Rin - Funi isn't stupid, they know the set has a lot of filler, and they've already dubbed well past it (we've heard phrases like "Drum" and "Arabasta") so they're still probably going to release past it.

Besides, it sounds like a lot of people still want to get the set. I know the Apis arc won't stop be from buying the set and I'm making a mental note that RightStuf will be getting money from me sometime in late June as this may be when they start shipping the set.

Season 1 Voyage 1:
I loved this set, my favorite episodes that I can watch multiple times is the first four episodes they work so well together. The commentary was by far the best so far, it makes me want Chris back on the commentary list. I wish they had more episode commentaries, but this was a great start to the series.
Season 2 Voyage 2:
This one isn't near as good as the set before, but its not its fault. Its caught in Kuro which is if you seen it before very painful to watch due to how slow it is, and then it ends right when Baratie gets good. The commentary was alright, good to hear Sonny.
Season 3 Voyage 3:
Due to my girlfriend now letting me watch it unless we both watch it I haven't been able to watch it just yet. I did get her to let me watch the commentary. The beginning of it was fine, and it was interesting to hear what he thinks of Sanji.

Yes, they are. Looking at the episode-numbers listed on this DVD, it's pretty clear that they are included.

But wasn't it released as a standalone dvd along with strawhat theatre a year later, and not part of the normal dvd schedule?

They are in the count, but the Japanese DVDs actually skipped them.
Volume 5 of Season 9 (The "Enies Lobby" chapter) ends right before then, Volume 6 Picks up right after them.
They got released on their own DVD that's out of Sequence

Actually the japansee dvd with 279 - 283 came out a week or two after Season 9 dvd 5, but a week or two before Season 9 dvd 6. I would just inculde them in the sets since it does some new material in the episodes (the Straw Hat theathers shorts). They did the same thing to episodes 291 - 292, and 303. Took em out of the main series dvd release and count those episodes as a One Piece Speical dvd like what they do to all the other One Piece Speicals for the japansee dvds releases.

The TV specials are on hold along with the movies, which is fine by me for the most part, although I really want to see special number three. I believe that they will dub them sooner or later, probably around the same time they are going to start dubbing the movies again.

What does "on hold" mean? Like, is Funimation choosing not to get them for now, or is Toei holding them for Funimation . . .

I think "on hold" means they're not doing them until they've got enough time. Redubbing the earlier episodes comes first. Which is fine by me.

I thought 4th voyage was great. The bounty episode is one of my favorites because I feel it does a good job tying together the previous arcs.

I definitely want to get Season 2 1st voyage. Btw, does anyone know when it's scheduled to come out?

Well personally for me anyway it'd be dumb to not complete my collection. I'm a collector, after all. Regardless of filler, I'd still get the next set. Besides, the Apis arc isn't THAT bad, just not that good either. Though I wonder how they'll handle the steel thing and Zoro. Will they change the dialogue? Or I wonder if they are even aware of how much the fans hate that.

I'm hoping we get one with all the Straw Hats on the episode they enter the Grand Line, which would count as both filler and canon material.

yep. but strangely enough i was scanning the narutofan forums once. i do sometimes to see what narutards think of one piece chapters and what not.

but man i haven't even gotten around to getting the 4th voyage yet. damn end of school year i'm always so damn broke i can't get anythign until summer starts and have a job again. by that time voyage 5, or season 2 voyage 1 (whatever its called) will be almost out. so that should be fun two at the same time.

Lol, small world eh? And I hear you about being broke. Honestly, sometimes if I want a DVD enough I'll buy it and then regret it because I end up with little to no money left for the week. Although I'm willing to buy the sets because I want to support Oda, One Piece and Funi.

Yeah, that's why The Post Arabasta stuff is gonna be a Hard Sell for FUNi.

This set has some Canon Material, and Entering the Grand Line was mixed in With Apis, so this set had enough Canon material to warrant a purchase for a lot of people.

Post-Arabasta was ALL filler with NO Canon material, it will be a set comprised of ENTIRELY Filler. I, personally, want to support FUNi fully and would not like a Hole in my collection, so I'm picking it up. Not everyone will

I may or may not skip it. One thing to note is that it will almost certainly be the last set of Season 2, which means you can get away with skipping it without having too noticeable a hole in your collection.

That's basically my train of thought; plus I've heard the filler in this set (having not yet seen it) is actually acceptable. Whereas the post-alabasta filler has a reputation for being the worst of all the filler. I want to support funi, but I just can't justify getting that last set.

I couldn't resist and watched the cannon episodes from S2FV, and I really like the voice actors for Mr. 5 and Ms. Valentine. Mr. 5's cool smooth attitude was enjoyable. Glad I only have to wait a month for the next set; it'll cover all of Little Garden, so no cliff hangers.

A Full-sized Straw-Hat Flag?

I just hope they know that set is filler, so they know to do something when it comes out.

I wouldn't mind some featurettes like filming the actors at work, interviews with the voice actors, especially the Straw Hats. Or they could do a 4kids/Toei thing and have some kind of recap video of what has happen so far, its not really needed, but it just something they could do.

Or have a PIRATE Audio MODE, where all the characters dub one of the episodes in totally Pirate Talk, imittiating pirates n all. It'd be pretty funny.

Or, they could have it buddled with a CD with the songs they've made so far in full length DVD format.

Chances of any of that happening is very slim.
