Shin Mazinger anime to start this April!

From what I've heard the anime isn't based on God Mazinger, but will be more of a modern day telling of the Mazinger Z series.
I'm fine either way, besides the anime is directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa who also did Giant Robo, so you can expect some good stuff to come out of it.
Oh and the series will use the original Pilder and Skrider designs.

I thought it was supposed to be based on Z Mazinger's manga? Well, at least we finally have an air date. Jeeg was a darn fine show, but the original series was sort of NOT QUITE SO COOL. I hope JAM Project will also do the theme song like they did for Jeeg!

! Was the LAST Episode of the series; the director decided to begin…with the end. Ep. 2 will start telling the events that lead to this final battle.
Overall Ep. 1 was great, BIG BANG PUNCH, looks TOO painful, and the robot breast groping was....too Nagai

I've never seen Mazinger, Freeman, but I don't think that was exclusively the last episode. I think it was a summary episode of the last three or four episodes of the original series, plus the final final conflict to come in the "real" last episode.

God bless you Imagawa, you haven't lost your touch.

Now, if only I could figure how Z Mazinger fits into all this ruckus.

So far the series feels like Mazinkaiser but with Koji piloting Z instead. I hope they don't rehash too much from it… It'd be nice to have more surprises like Z Mazinger show up.
Grendizer appeared in one version of the manga, I hope they do the same here too .

Mazinkaiser was pretty good. He is stupidly powerful though, indestructable. And points off for facing the same damn villains over again.

Eons ago, the gods waged a war on Earth, Zeus betrayed the gods and fought to protect/defend the human race. Eventually he managed to defeat them and seal them away.
Baron Ashura was in fact 2 lovers who were cocooned/mummified and when revived by Dr. Hell merged together into one being after being stuck together for millenniums.

It's really sad because Kouji's grandpa Juuzo was sort of what I'd imagine "Old Kamina" to act like. He was a great, great dude and I was hoping I was just imagining all the foreshadowing.

Any chance of us getting Mazinkaiser itself in this series? I mean "Z Mazinger" slash Zeus was supposed to be a robot replica of the original Mycenaean hero, yet we have the ACTUAL Zeus in this series so..

Mecha anime isn't really my thing but I am really impressed with this one. It has so many interesting characters, awesome soundtrack and the opening song is epic and catchy as hell!

I am shocked that so many people at a certain place are bashing this. It is one of the most incredible shows of the past year…I mean Geass can't hold a candle to how awesome Mazinger is right now, it's solid in every possible category.

! Great Mazinger appears to make a show. And Z transforms! I wouldn't be surprised if Mazinkaiser makes an appearance at the end of the show, somewhere somehow. Maybe Shirou pilots it? Shirou, Boss, Tetsuya, Zeus and Kouji v. Dr. Heck and that huge monster guy?

Baron Ashura gave us a cordial introduction Shin Mazinger 16. It basically said that everything from now on is going to be totally different from any one Mazinger story.

Which is great! It was a curious touch Ashura got to shuffle the manga pages as well.

Since it's clear Zenigame is dead on when he says there's going to be a Great-hen to finish off the series (because clearly it's not going to finish in a paltry 26 episodes without rushing) I'm going to outline my theory, based on the new episode results.

! Mazinger Z = Zeus
Grendizer = Hades
Great Mazinger = Posideon
! All three of those guys are aliens, the "automatons" which became the Mechanical Beasts are alien technology and the source of Japanium is actually Zeus' right hand which is why Mazinger Z can transform into Zeus' hand and then go HIKARI NI NARE with it.
! Hades died against Zeus, but gets reincarnated as the "Emperor of Darkness", who given the source material we've been shown will probably be the end-boss. Zeus + Posideon won't be around to stop him in person, but Z and Great, possibly Grendizer and Duke will be there to battle it.
! Given this, I think it's very possible the final battle of Great-hen will involve Grendizer, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger battling an Emperor of Darkness possessed Mazinkaiser.
! Would that not be the most GODLY battle one as ever seen? Z will finally get revenge for its treatment in Mazinkaiser and we'll see Mazinkaiser finally get owned!
! I don't know how Ankoku Daishogun will work into this, but it's very likely IMV Grand Marshall is going to still be a reincarnated mad doctor heck. This is particularly true because Dr. Heck dies at the end of Z-hen along with Pygman, Brocken, Gorgon and Ashura. All the bad guys, leaving only Ankoku Daishogun and any other villains from Devilman and/or Violence Jack who team up with the Myceneans.
! Suffice to say, it's going to be an exciting, wild ride. I can't wait to see Mazinger Z spam that Photon Beam some more and blow stuff up!

Shin Mazinger 19 is out, and there's loads of surprises -

! While it's no surprise at this point that the Japanium ore depot was actually what remained of Z Mazinger's arm, the revelation that Tetsuya died during Dr. Heck's campaign to control Bardos Island was something that really struck me!
! So maybe there won't be a Great-hen after all…

Someone suggested that the Tetsuya from the flashback isn't the one we know as Great Mazinger's pilot, but Tetsuya's father with the same name.

It would make some sense, and is a good plot twist.

Suffice to say, I still exploded bricks.
